I played a demo of this over the weekend at PAX, and was quite impressed.  Yes, there are cards and dashboards, but mostly they just make building your car and tracking things easier.  The game still feels quite the same as it did when I played in the 80s, with a lot of the fiddlyness dialed down or removed entirely.
