Reply To: XLBS – What format in the future

So, I’ve been ruminating on this since I saw the initial post pop up and I have finally watched the XLBS episode that spawned it.

I see two dominant opinions running through and that seems to be some people want to see more of the bigger “on the table” segments that used to be a part of the Weekender with the likes of guests and special segments and some people like the talking heads and intimacy of the recorded chat.

Perhaps there is a future (once things are safe, of course) where the two shows could diverge in format somewhat? The Weekender could look to return the studio table with all the fanfare and whizbang that comes with it and the XLBS could remain from people’s hobby spaces with some of the more close in suggestions getting time.

I know this could create two very different shows (possibly with different casts depending on people’s availability, location and set up) but that might not necessarily be a bad thing with a greater variety of personalities and content to up sell the XLBS on. I’ll probably stick around regardless as I tend to be in the “stick them on in the background whilst at work/hobbying/folding the laundry/whatever” crowd, but a broader product range makes for more to sell and there’s the business to consider at the end of the day.
