18/19 September Operation Market Garden … also 80 years this year.
I should do a little research on the history of my new town.
There’s a lot of history here.
Its name is literally “The Duke’s Forest” … because that is what it was.
The oldest brick building of our country is here too.
I think we’ve got more stuff in October as that was the month the town was liberated. There is a bridge with all 150 (?) names of the fallen from the Welsh 53rd division.
There probably isn’t a town in Europe without stories from WW 2 …
There’s also the siege of 1629 which cost the Spanish an important foothold.

I know ‘Market Garden’ is seen as this gigantic operation … but like D-day there are smaller battles that can be highlighted.
One of them is the taking of the bridge near Son&Breugel.
The Bolt-Action Market Garden campaign book even has a scenario for it …
Sarissa do the bridge that would have been there.
It’s one I kind of wanted to do since reading about it.
