I don’t think there are any Irish traditional songs about facial fluff, sorry!

I’ve probably only been clean shaven for about 2 of the last 22 years, I’ve either had a goatee (first grew one at 18), full beard, the Craig David pencil beard (pain in the arse to do), the Lemmy, a handlebar moustache or just a big bushy ‘tache.  Haven’t touched the hair on my chin for about 6 months.  Have little more than a hands width under the chin.  My niece is going to plait it for me when it is long enough lol

@sundancer could definitely be related.
I think the Dutch traditional refers to Cape of Good Hope at the southern end of Africa (and travel to East Indies I’d assume).
No whale hunting or anything.
