Going to save some time by changing from a paint, wash, highlight on the flesh to guilleman(?) flesh contrast paint. For line infantry it’ll save hours of time
June 27, 2019 at 10:26 am #1408992Howdie folks. Been a bit quiet from me for a while. Real life’s been busy (in a good way) and I’ve been doing things away from the table…
Including making a 6 x 4 gaming table! With a 54″ TV embedded in it!

So, now I had a nice big table I started getting all the bits in to finally make some terrain boards!
I was just about to start putting the base boards together when I got a call from a director/producer friend of mine (headed the team that built the epic Hogwarts model for the movies amongst other things) passing on a request from another director/producer friend of his.
He needed a 6×8 foot chunk of terrain styled on the peak district/wales hill farms. The budget was good, but the timescale was very tight. As I had practically everything already bought in for my own table – it took on the project.
I can’t share too many pictures at the request of the client, but here’s what I can show you…
Roughing out the terrain (brief was mountains and hills with farmland and village with a river…)

Casting 8 feet of home made rock face pieces…

Gluing and sticking and blending…

48 square feet of fun fur base painted (that goodness we had good weather last week!) …

Colouring the rocks…

Grass added and edges blended. Details getting added. Cave mouth for the river

Flowers and lichen

A view across the hillside…

And pouring the epoxy for the water effects…

And the result…

I’m now speed painting farm buildings, a hamlet, fences, and a thorium reactor (yes really!) with 2 days to go before delivery and set up, on set on Saturday. I may be painting things in the car on the way down…. 😀

This is a really nice model, added some broken wood to the base to reflect the scene in the film.

…Big.
June 30, 2019 at 9:22 pm #1410338I could use some opinions and advice. I’ve finished painting the muscley flesh. The leathery wings had some overspray on them of the base colours of the flesh. I liked the transitions and I wanted to see if I could use them, rather than paint the wings black, like with my other Daemon. I gave them a purple wash. The armour will be black with bronze trim. I have 2 questions:
1: Do you think it works or should I paint the leathery parts of the wings a different coulour?
2: They still need a highlight. What should I do? I could use genestealer purple? I was thinking perhaps drybrush with an icey whitish blue. Either P3 Underbelly Blue or P3 Frostbite. Should I be going for more of a caucasian flesh tone? Anyone got any other ideas?

July 2, 2019 at 6:00 pm #1410919Alongside my Burrows and badgers terrain project Im clearing out the “ooh thats an interesting bit” pile by actually using some of it to make SciFi scatter terrain. using up old CDs and cereal boxes for the bases, bits of nicely shaped blisters and old sprues and cardboard packaging etc as the focal points. Generously slathered in PVA and flock and plastic foliage.
