The time has come. Warren is finally ready to take on David and his Allied forces! Get ready as Warren rolls out with his STUG III army and unleashes the fires of hell!

Great video guys, good to see a full game and with Warrens extra twists too.
Sad to see Sarah Jane get blown up, not so much Mel…. 😉
Mel is my favorite companion.
Big ginger poofy hair, great fashion sense, lovely little nose…
ahem
Sweet !
Especially I appreciate that I can count on u guys to be there with me during my friday night painting sessions. I depend on u fellas : )
And there they are : alternate camera angles, great ! I think its essential to be able to show several areas of the board where the action actualy is happening. I dont like the shaky cam stuff BTP or MWG is doing for example, here everything was steady and well focused. I think FoW offers itself well for filming with its big open areas, few things hidden behind terrain, imagine filming Infinity must be much harder, though you cuild build Terrain filming friendly.
Dave, Warren, Justin ? Nice work and thank you very much !
Loved the game and the rules twist ;0)
Great video guys thanks.
Warren I do like the look of your Stugs advancing in turn two, you could imagine them advancing out of the early dawn winter morning on yur snow covered board.
Was that the first “Gott in Himmel” of this series? If so I admire your restraint.
Great series. FoW looks a pure, unalloyed blast.
That was bloody marvelous. Great board, really nice scenario and nice clear gameplay and camera angles. Also nice to see a few more rules in play and different units ( for the allies at least). I reckon David had already sent captain america out through the sewers with the plans turn three….lol
Maybe David should get a go at devising the next scenario? How about setting up an ambush to recover the plans…..
Rule 1 of wargamig.
When you make a list….
Remember what you put in it… my Typhoon was sitting there waiting for me to roll some air power dice… just after the game b*tch slap me over and over for leaving her sitting on the side lines…
I R SMRT
Whoops, I was wondering…….it sounded like like you had something like that lined up…Maybe it was busy trying to shoot doodlebugs out the sky ; )
Great video guys.
How about you use your Typhoon in the next game ?
Maybe help Warren to round out his army with infantry artillery and some air power/anti air craft units, perhaps.
Then we can see more of the great game play F.o.W. has.
Not to mention the huge amount of enthusiasm and fun you both bring to this cool series.
Yeah I was wondering what happened to the air support, also don’t forget to take your tank terror motivation test for infantry assaulting tanks
Another very enjoyable vid, I knew warren would love stormtrooper moves.
Another wonderful gaming video – the great thing is, it is blatantly obvious that Warren and Dave are great sportsmen and thoroughly enjoyed it.
The doodlebug artillery is a bit mad but very interesting. Warren’s blocking move was a gamble that really paid off very well in the end.
And there is more to come? Well, to complement to horde of StuG’s, I think infantry, some artillery in the form of 105mm (towed or spg), some AAA to fend off the Typhoons (which Dave later realised he had forgotten), maybe CAS for Warren’s horde in the form of the Ju87-G Panzerknacker Stuka. And of course, at some point, Warren has to get his paws on one or more of the Big Cats 🙂
Dave – artillery – hand out the pain as Darryl would say. More infantry. Maybe some anti-tank guns too.
Looking forward to the next installment!
Great job!
the Nachtwolfen don’t retreat, they merely advance in another direction!!!
Great video as always. I would love to see artillery in action, large formations of heavy artillery and smaller mortar squads would be great.
Keep up the great work.
See, now as far as i’m concerned. This is how to do a BoW show right.
Just like the previous episodes and those of the Dreadball academy series. It’s entertaining, it’s informative and it engages with the watcher and makes them feel included.
Nop notch stuff.
thanks
Remember though not all shows can be the same, it’s just not possible for a small team to deliver more shows, with more variety, with better production, with more certain schedules, while also trying to reward backstagers for supporting us.
We have to try to bring in, more people and make compromises on what we can achieve in the time we have.
This can mean, experimenting with show formats, to see what’s good and what’s actually achievable on a regular basis, and like anyone else we watch show stats, so a show y only get a few thousand views, but could take nearly a week to produce where as a show produced in one day may exceed those numbers – if that happens we have to consider if there are compromises that can be made etc.
Bottom line we will be experimenting quite a bit as that’s the only way we can test things.
And remember our goal is to make things better not worse, and while it may look, random or scattered to you at the moment, remember we are sitting on a big dollop of data and feedback which helps us see directions we can take. 🙂
I can’t help being a little selfish in wanting things how ‘I’ like them but I know that my opinions are exactly that – ‘my’ opinions and I know that i’m not always going to like everything that you produce. As you say, you produce whatever gets the most views and I understand that. 🙂
Experimenting is good. It helps you to find out what works and what doesn’t. But the way BoW is running at the moment it all seems a bit ‘scattershot’ with bits here, there and everywhere. It almost feels like there’s no cohesion to the shows. 🙁 But i’m sure that that will settle down given time. 🙂
With the lack of shows posted now to how it used to be, I feel there aren’t enough shows for me to not notice the ones that I’m maybe not too keen on. Especially with the changes to those that I used to like ( and personally think worked better but again – just my opinion ) so that I don’t like them as much.
I personally believe the core group of presenters needs to be reasonably small even though each game system needs a specialist. BoWs branching out to non GW systems forces the need for people who know what they’re talking about. However we need to get to know them, but with the previously mentioned lack of shows they’re just going to remain strangers due to lack of exposure, especially if each time that particular show comes out it’s a random presenter that we’ve never seen before.
Take Dave. Due to FoWFTW being one of your only pretty regular shows these days, I’ve come to know and like him. He’s great and I now consider him ‘one of the team’. 🙂
If you say that you’re going to do something then please, please do it. For instance – What happened to set shows on set days? What happened to Feast of Games ( Which was awesome. ) being an ongoing series?
Please believe that none of my comments are ever meant in a nasty way. I just want BoW to be the best it can be and I really do appreciate what you do at BoW and the effort it takes to do it. Even if i’m a little critical about some things. 🙂
Bloody hell. That was a ramble and a half. 🙁
Wall of text crits you for 2D6 damage.

That was a great show and rationed out over the day made good weekend viewing.
One of the key indicators for me is I sit there and try to beat your dice throws (maybe i should seek help)
I have enjoyed a lot of new formats especially when you draft in other gamers who play the game or the featured army.
The novice and vet combo gives a good insight into a game as well.
Hope to see more of Dave in the future, I think he’s a bit of a star.
oh yeah and Peri use to float my teenage boat.
I cannot believe how much I am enjoying a video about a game I don’t play. I’m scared.
And this a tournament game, as well.
If anyone want’s a army list builder for FOW go to this website:
http://fowlists.blogspot.com.au/p/welcome.html.
Again its only a list check as it doesn’t validate German tank platoons that need the same tank in it etc. But i have found it extremely useful more in this series to get list made in a way people can read.
People have been asking how to expand the army from open fire and this was how I did it for this game:
Use the Operation Market Garden Book!!!

Air Support – Typhoon (Limited, 5 dice) (170 pts)
2000 Points, 5 Platoons
This is the list I took (see i DID have air support imagine that roaring down ‘Dave’s Bridge’) but alas maybe in the next game!
I will be taking air support and probably more arty in the next game to introduce more rules and more fun 😀
I’ve watched all of these episodes now, and from time to time they are actually muddying my understanding of the rules. In the first episode or two you guys did little flash screens when you had got stuff wrong. I know it’s not possible to look up the rules while filming, but could you at least mention when there’s something your not sure about that its something you will check?
Prime example this episode would be the assault of the infantry vs the tanks. The paras bailed two of the tanks, yet that seemed to have no impact?
Also, the lack of any army list for the Germans is a bit jarring. Like a space marine army with nothing but terminators or dreadnaughts. The army lists in FoW can be a bit complicated, so maybe an episode on fitting the Germans into an actually army list? Made up history I can deal with, but just fielding what you want isn’t very good.
There are a few army lists for FoW which are actually designed to field an entire army of StuG tanks, or very close to it (The StuG Batterie from Grey Wolf is a good example). While those lists may not allow you to take 21 StuGs, Warren could at least get close!
As for an idea for the next video, I think it’s high time Dave got a little payback…maybe a scenario in which Dave’s 29th ambushes Warren’s Nachtwolfen tank column while they’re on the move, in an effort to get the plans back?
Yeah, I’ve pretty much given up on using this series to help with learning the FoW rules. Trying to be an introduction to the game doesn’t work if you’re going to cause confusion with Warren’s homebrew rules/lists.
Hey Warren,
Don’t know if you’ve seen it yet but if you hop over to the FoW website they’re doing a give away for Operations Overlord which starts today (Sunday). Basically sign up and send in 5 battle reports to the main site and they will send you a V-1 as well as a german scientist and cameraman mini.
You could use them like was do for Siege weapons in Warhammer. If you loose the crew you can’t fire the weapon.
At first I want to say that I really enjoyed the video
Warren if you want some infantry ( my proposition – SS-Panzergrenadier ) then also take a look at some artillery support ( maybe 15cm howitzers, 12cm Heavy Mortars or eventually 15cm nebelwerfer) .
Otherwise I have a feeling your Night Wolves might like some aircrafts as STUGs are IMO already more of mobile and better armored artillery rather than normal tanks ( my proposition for this is precision dive bomber Stuka)
good shows guys what about 500 king tigers next waran:)
I’m still watching, for next show or the one after please look at putting together a valid list, as in one from a book or pdf. Also consider a smaller point limit as this means when you put the list together you have to leave something out. If Dave had used the air support a different story entirely as the StuGs don’t stand up to air that well.
Then look at doing one of the book missions, you can still use the V-1 as an objective and with those where the objective isn’t live until turn 6 is the time it takes to prepare the V-1. Hence the reason for being an objective.
Then add in different scenery, such as the hill being slow going, some trees, roads, river etc. The board looked good but was a little 40K barren wasteland style which did suit hull mounted StuGs more than one which allows flanking moves.
Anyhow you are getting there and once you go valid list I’ll be happy 🙂
Your definition of a ‘valid list’ is an interesting concept but not necessarily a universal one!
In tournaments etc I can see the need for completely clear point limits and army selections, but beyond that I’m not sure it is really that important.
Surely if the people playing the game are happy with each other’s lists and the purpose of the video is not to teach how to create a ‘legal’ army list then it does not matter. Apocalypse works along those lines (although it still uses a points limit).
Fun is the objective here. Fun to watch and fun to play. Education of the limits is the path for some to take if they enjoy what is presented here.
Mind you I got a slightly twitchy moment when the guys did a Warmachine battlebox and beyond vid for mercenaries – even though you can’t get the box anymore so I guess I can empathise with you on some level!
Awesome video guys! This series is driving me leaps and bounds in actually getting involved with Flames of war. I’ve just ordered myself my first 1000pts of Fallschimjager with a big thanks to Dave for his help with the list :-).
Humm Well with my love for Market Garden maybe your Fallschimjagers would like to face off against me and Michael Caine with the Irish Guards.
(Michael Caine played J.O.E Vandeleur in the film A Bridge Too Far)
Loving FOW: FTW. Sorry, Warren, I could listen to Dave talk history all day. 😛 Heading to my local shop this weekend to explore FOW.
Rewatching the tank battle. Been thinking about it all day. If you put commercials innit, it could be a SyFy movie.
Great video guys.
Really liked the image of the Stug’s charging forward and the British gun line waiting for them.
Poor 82nd All American, their assault was risky. Was glad Dave finally remembered to go to ground and dig in.
Enjoyed the Warren home brew rules. Brought the point home for me about gaming in the gaps.
Can’t believe Dave left the Tiffy on the sidelines. Since I bought mine a month ago its always the first thing I do. They are good against tanks, but had the sincere pleasure of eradicating an entire grenadier platoon in my last game.
Looking forward to the next installment.
Nice vid.
One thing I noticed in the video, when the Shermans flanked the stugs in arround 1:10:30 you said that you can only see one stug because he is blocking LoS to the others. This is not correct, it is specificaly said in the rules that enemy teams do not block LoS to other enemy teams (Only your own do).
The rule is there intentionally so that you cant for example hide your weaker tanks behind a KT or something like that.
O.K. so i finished watching it and I am adding few more things that you did wrong according to the rules.
First: You have to take platoon morale check when you have more dead teams than alive. It does not need to be under half. So for example if you have a 4 tank platoon, 1 is destroyed and 3 bailed, you need to take platoon morale as bailed dont count and you have 1 dead and 0 live.
Also you make the Platoon morale only at the end of the phase, so you cant wait wether they run or not after just one platoon shot at them and than shoot other according to the result.
Second: Gun Tanking works differently, you dont have to roll a 6 to hit. Before shooting, you say that you want to use it and against which type of tank and than you roll a 5up for each hit rolled.
Third: The assault was pretty much completely wrong. When launching an assault with infantry against tanks, you must first roll for tank terror – which is a morale test. If it fails than the assault does not happen at all.
The move in and defensive fire was correct. Then you actually need to roll separately to hit, as not all teams cen hit all tanks, so it is better to do it individually. After you find out which team was hit by what, you roll armor saves for the tanks. There was a mistake there, the paras have gammon bombs which are TA 3 not 4. Than the bazooka is TA4 and only the Faust is TA6. But if the save fails, there is no firepower check involved, the tanks are just destroyed. So the Panzerfaus in close combat is really powerful. Now if there is something alive after that, if the defender took any hits (doesnt matter wheter they killed something) he needs to roll for the counterassault, it does not happen automatically.
Hope that this helps
Warren,
Use this tank to challenge David’s firefly’s – the vehicle which Allied players must have been dreading – the Jagdpanzer IV L/48…
I got to the 11 minute mark of this and just couldn’t watch anymore. It was around the time when Mr. Warren Gaga said in essence “I have no clue what I’m doing still so we’ll just make it up as we go along”. Instead of calling the series flames of war “for the win” it should be changed to flames of war “fantasies of Warren”. As none of this is actually teaching the game, but instead, creating a setting of theatrical product endorsement. One of the armies being played with isn’t even a legitimate army and would actually lead new players becoming interested in the game to waste money buying tons of stugs they would never field. The V flying bomb TERRAIN piece which has become a product of the fantasy delusions presented here would NEVER have a chance of hitting a precise target that close to it, but again, its about turning FOW into mini 40k ultimately. On a personal level I’m done with this series. Its nonsense. The second video in this series should have been the next video to make players understand the next step from the boxed set is buying an army book of choice and building the forces out from there. Darrell would have been better suited for this project as he knows about as much as Mr. Gaga does about ww2 and could have just blatantly turned it all into space wolves much easier and perhaps even made it more fun. It is a shame he was sacked, or screwed over, or whatever. I do have to admit though I was amused when Mr. Gaga looked at the yin/yang patch design of the 29th infantry division and contemplated ‘hmmm I’ve seen that before but where?’. LOL. Seriously? Oh well, best of luck.
