GameCraft Releases the Home of Bin Laden Himself
April 9, 2013 by dracs
The finding of Bin Laden is probably the pivotal moment of the modern day War on Terror and GameCraft are now releasing a 28mm MDF rendition of former al-Qaeda head's home.
It is strange to think that something which happened only two years ago might now be the subject for miniature gaming.
Nevertheless, the house itself does fit in well with the rest of GameCraft's middle-eastern terrain range and could be fitted in well as part of a modern warfare game or even diorama.

Tacky, I think. Have they also released a model of the interior of the passenger jets that crashed on 9/11? I think I’ll pass.
This is pretty tasteless
I never liked Bin Laden. That aside I still think its not in good gaming character to have his home. It is tasteless as @leeroy said.
I don’t want to step on anyone’s toes, I’m honestly curious; why would you find that more inappropriate than gaming Afghan theater, WW2 SS (or partisans or red army) or even Thirty Years War or Roman conquests for that matter?
Is it just the fact that the issue is still raw for people who’s lives have been shattered by the al-Quaeda thing?
Because from a purely ideological standpoint, I personally could see “having fun” with “Nazi” toy soldiers about as (if not more) tasteless, if I were inclined to taking some kind of moral highground.
This is more tasteless than normal because other games depict wars as a generalization, making “what if” scenarios
This applauds the death/slaughter of a single individual.
This could stem from the fact that I found the whole hunt for Osama distasteful.
It is quite frightening to watch a nation scream for the blood of one person,
When they got him I saw people celebrating like crazy, that this one person was killed/slaughtered, as if this had just won them a great (and difficult) war.
But fact is, the cause (and thereby the war) is still going on and it now has a martyr.
There is no reason to celebrate the spilling of blood
Khorne is only fun as long as his cult is fictional.
And yes I have the same problem with the British who celebrate the death of Thatcher.
I can totally see where your coming from as the Nazi army did kill many Jews as well as the same can be said of Russia to the Polish or even Hutu Tutsi genocide. Many people can and rightfully do disagree with depicting wars and horrid events, but I find something distasteful in treating your enemy as a play thing. It removes the humanity from them and sadly more so from us.
Yes I would find it in bad taste if they came out with a model of Hitler and his bunker so you can storm it before he kills himself. Sad that many people have done horrid acts against others and in some cases there own nation or people. I rather just condemn them rather than make them a topic of table top gaming.
‘modern warfare’ gaming doesnt really interest me. Im a Sci-Fi boy meself 🙂 Unusual subject matter for a kit to be fair but im sure it will appeal to some people. Personally, im not offended by it.
Judging by the comments I think they may have got less flack if they titled it as a generic building, rather than giving the specific name. for example if it was entitled middle eastern building?
I know some of us play games based on our history, but this is a little close to the bone
If I were playing modern warfare/re-enactment scenarios in that setting, I think I’d appreciate some recognizable/accurate buildings, myself, so I wouldn’t have to construct them from scratch. It’s no more offensive to me than that Rommel-X or whatnot. Not everyone has a taste for the cartoony space wizards and goblins beheading each other while riding atop deformed tanks, after all. Wargamers can and do play scenarios that are or are based on real life military actions. For those who’d appreciate this, good for them.
