Troublemaker Games are currently on Kickstarter with a new project looking to expand CityCrushers. The 8mm Sci-Fi game of big mechs battling each other is already out in the world but now they want to go bigger with CityCrushers: Epic Battles, which features a brand new set, loads of new plastic miniatures and more.

CityCrushers: Epic Battles // Troublemaker Games

The original CityCrushers was released in 2023 and involved robots blasting each other and, as the name might suggest, crushing cities. Now, Troublemaker Games wants to expand this and turn their robot-smashing game into a full-on wargame, which introduces plenty of combined arms elements. That's where CityCrushers: Epic Battles comes in.

So why are Troublemaker coming to Kickstarter? Well, they are seeking to support the launch of this game with a selection of plastic miniatures, which cost quite a bit to get produced!

Standard Edition - CityCrushers Epic Battles

At the heart of the campaign is the Standard Edition boxed set, which comes with the two factions full of miniatures as well as the rules for playing your games of CityCrushers: Epic Battles. The rules for Epic Battles will use the MicroCosmic game engine by Barny Skinner, who also wrote the core rules engine that drives the original CityCrushers.

Featured inside the boxed set are the two core factions of CityCrushers. On the one side, you have the Novan Kingdom. They are ignoble humans who have formed their society along feudal lines. In their minds, power grants the right to rulership and they fight for the glory of their king!

Miniature and design-wise, this gives them a very regimented and militaristic look that would be great for someone who wants to build a very uniform force on the tabletop. I think you could have some fun adding lots of colour to these miniatures to match their love of the country and king that they serve.

On the other side of things, you have the Skinners!

Skinner Battleforce - CityCrushers Epic Battles

Skinner Battleforce // CityCrushers: Epic Battles

The Skinners are descended from bio-engineered slaves, human-ape hybrids created for hard labour. They have now thrown off their shackles and are fighting as a democratic, collectivist society seeking to crush the Novans! They fight for self-determination and access to bananas. Fun.

From an aesthetic standpoint, this makes the Skinners a bit more ad hoc and ramshackle in their appearance, which should be fun for someone who doesn't want to be that serious with the way they approach painting their army.

The two Battleforce options give you lots of the new plastic kits to choose from, although you'll note you'd want to go for something like the boxed set or some of the smaller add-on sets to get your hands on the big, bad Crushers!

They also have some bigger options for those who want to go all-in when it comes to CityCrushers. For example, you could go for something like the Omega Edition pledge, which gives you two of the boxed sets, loads of terrain, plus big walkers and vehicles.

There's plenty more for you to sink your teeth into when it comes to CityCrushers: Epic Battles over on their Kickstarter page. You can venture into all sorts of different pledge options, plus see more of the painted miniatures for both sides. You will also be able to learn more about their journey into plastic miniature production and how that is all coming along!

It seems like epic-scale wargaming is certainly becoming THE THING at the moment and it's great to see more Indie companies diving into this same space. I think the shift towards wanting big battles to play out on the tabletop without having to do lots of fiddly painting is strong for a lot of people!
