Wow! What a game.
I like the idea of a lot of commanders getting to run troops. It adds to the element of, here’s what we want to do, but then someone on your team doesn’t exactly follow through with the plan and how that changes things.
Very cool setup for a club to run for the whole group!
It was a big game, to be sure, and team games are always fun because you have to collaborate with other players … help each other when they need it, compensate for their misfortunes, mistakes, etc … Cheering each other on is always a good time, too (especially once you get a few beers in you). 😛
The figures look really well painted as well. Gunnar (sp?) should be rightly proud of his efforts.

The scale of the actual battle is unbelievable.
And when you consider the communications (or rather lack thereof) it is kind of surprising that these guys managed to find each other.
The numbers Gunner was quoting in our earlier video were just enormous.

More like 100, at least. There are AT LEAST 200,000 soldiers engaged (depending on when exactly in the battle this is) – that number might be as high as 300,000+ or even more. Definitely bigger that Waterloo.
So with 2000 minis on the table, I’m guessing that we’re looking at 150-175 actual soldiers PER FIGURE.
Wow some amount of paperwork on this battle then?
I didn’t see any. I did hear from some people that the command system was restrictive, and made it difficult to coordinate a whole force easily. I think this was intentional, because again, we’re talking about HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of people here, through smopke and noise, and no radios or field telephones, etc.
I wonder what happens to this giant board after the convention. Does is go to a wargaming museum or to a place where regular participation games take place?
Actually they just take it all apart, load it up, and go home.

That’s a great looking table.
It must be really immersive to play the whole battle, rather than just a part of it…. That’s probably why were seeing so many historical games using smaller scale figures just so you can fit the troops on a table.
LittleArmies had a similar table one floor downstairs for Gettysburg. I’m not very familiar with Leipzig, but Gettysburg I know pretty well, so I walked up to the table and immediately saw they did a great job on the terrain features. I could see the battlefield immediately. Here, I’m sure he’s done the same, I just don’t know the battle that well personally. But for students of the period, to actually be “in command” of such a landmark moment (again, the battle that really brought down Napoleon, or at least signaled the beginning of the end).
