November 20, 2014 by brennon
Dream Pod 9 have hit upon the final few days of their Heavy Gear Blitz Kickstarter that finishes soon! See what you can get with the core pledge for the game below...
Not bad as a starting point for your journey in Heavy Gear Blitz right?
"We now have an amazing Backer Reward Core Starter Set which includes 47 plastic miniatures, color quick start rulebook, backer patch, plus a lot of free downloads. The true retail value of all the individual miniatures included in the Core Starter Set is over $300. You get it all for a Pledge of $115 CAD (about $100 USD) plus shipping of $15 for US and Canadian Backers and actual shipping cost for International Backers. That`s a cost of less than $2.50 per miniature compared to our pewter miniatures cost of $8 or more each."
The campaign has been well received and it's even got a staff pick from Kickstarter itself. Do you think you'll be jumping in on these final few hours of the campaign and grabbing the core set and the additional extras?

DP9 have had a few hiccups so far in the campaign with their planning, but they’ve been really active with the backers in getting things smoothed out and listening to ideas and suggestions. In fact, the biggest problem so far was something unrelated to the kickstarter; the retail starter set to be released after the kickstarter is in the hands of the backers.
Originally they had planned on what we’ve unlocked up to the 105K point to be the starter set and price it at ~130$, but after receiving numerous suggestions/advice from both consumers and retailers they’ve decided to re-evalute what they release for retail, under the logic of wanting a starter that is both competitive (i.e. around $100 or less) and is not overwhelming to new players (i.e. 4 faction starter not the best thing, cool as it sounds).
So basically, after this kickstarter ends they’re asking for people to hop on their forums to join the discussion on what that retail starter should be, i.e. what plastics that this KS has unlocked should be in it. Common thought is currently a North V South 2 player starter, although the idea of doing ‘make your own starter’ packs for retailers to put together in shop has been suggested and seen by DP9. Basically it would be two smaller boxes of faction models that go inside the bigger box. So you can mix and match things like North V Caprice and South V CEF.
That said, their primary focus is definitely getting this kickstarter (Which by the way, is explicitly unaffected by the status of the retail starter) in the hands of their backers since they know this is a sort of make or break for them, whether they are going to grow as a company and as a game.
Was in it the first, will be here at the end. Looking forward to the finale. 🙂
I have loads of the models from them and I’m glad that plastic is coming out due to this KS. The metal models look great but don’t handle gaming well. Plastic will fix that as it will be lighter models.
