Eviscerate, Execute and Crush with Dark Hammer’s Latest Minis
March 10, 2014 by dracs
Three disturbing, demonic models have been released from Dark Hammer, each with a name that pretty much tells you everything you need to know about them.
These guys range from the eviscerated remains of an undead warrior to the barbaric designs of humanoid demons. Of the three, my favourite is probably the Headcrusher, which looks like it would be a frenzied fighter in close combat.
Dark Hammer have also made some new packaging designs, showing off the cool minis inside of them.
Which of these three miniatures do you think is best?

Shame the crowd funding for this was low.
Agreed. The quality of Darkhammer miniatures is very high – I think with a solid skirmish or boardgame and a well-translated Kickstarter campaign in US dollars, they could do very well. Journey, which had a similar aesthetic and high level of execution, did very well doing exactly that on kickstarter recently. I think a Kickstarter campaign for a Darkhammer skirmish and / or boardgame centered around mythic Eastern undead would be fantastic.
I get that Darkhammer want to do a full-blown wargame right away (the name “Darkhammer” tells you that much), but I think they should take a hint from Mantic’s success and build up to that slowly with smaller games that develop their armies and backstory first. Otherwise it’s a bit of a tough sell to gamers, given that there aren’t that many Eastern fantasy wargames people can use Darkhammer miniatures in.
I’m a science fiction gamer and I don’t usually buy fantasy models, but I root for these guys because their work is so original and well-done. I will be buying some models from them someday just for the pleasure of painting and displaying them.
As far as the three miniatures above go, I’d like to see them in the round before making a final judgment, but I think #2 is the strongest in the photos, with #1 a close second. As usual with Darkhammer’s line, all of them are excellent.
Anyhow, very glad to see that Darkhammer is still around and developing their world. I hope they keep at it (and perhaps expand their focus into other genres too?), as they deserve more success.
