The New Ghostbusters Trailer Has Arrived
March 3, 2016 by brennon
The new Ghostbusters trailer has arrived showing off this reboot of the original that was so well loved. While a lot of people haven't been taking the news that well about Ghostbusters coming back I was smiling a bit after watching the trailer. Maybe this could grow on me?
The cast includes Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones, and Chris Hemsworth who are going to be donning the jumpsuits and getting ready to trap some spirits.
You can watch the trailer above and make your own mind up as to what you think of the new line-up.
Drop your thoughts below...

who you gona call……… Bill Murray and dan aykroyd and ask them whyyyyyyyyyyyyy.
film looks terrible
I’m on the fence, but I’m cautiously and hopefully optimistic…
Truthfully, i Just really want nice ghostbusters minis, and a 1:43 eco 1 that isn’t hundreds of dollars. :S
I’m underwhelmed, though I’d like to stress that the gender of leads has nothing to do with it.
ha ha love the gender comment Ben ….was it ment to be funny? anyhow ten out of ten fella.
I think.. Ghostbusters was written like a serious film (of it’s time) with precise comedy elements that resulted in a film that was light-hearted overall. This trailer makes the latest film feel like the inverse; a comedy of our time (..of the Scary Movie ilk, so not a good thing) that will be sprinkled with few serious moments.
Bleh.
I got the exact same feeling. Ghostbusters was a film with genuine humour while this feels like it’s been written around the jokes. And I can get on board with changing the gender of the cast but not the specific cast they’ve chosen. Melissa Mccarthy has been painful in everything I’ve seen her in.
I agree totally with you…but I will give it try.
That’s what I was thinking too.
The classic worked *because* it was both a fun ‘fantasy’ movie in a modern setting.
The humour was both a bonus and pretty decent.
This thing ?
Definitely reminded me more of stuff in the likes of Scary movie.
Heck, I wonder if they were originally planning this as one of those parody movies as the humour is as cheap.
I dunno what t make of it………..
Comments on You tube are pretty unhappy. As many people dislike the trailer as like it and the trailer was only published today! Looks like it’s flopped already. Maybe they shouldn’t have released a trailer? Lulled a few more unsuspecting people into the theater and got their money before they realised what they were watching?
Well, there is always the chance that the movie is like some sorts of cheese…smells like puke mixed with terpentine but tastes like an angels kiss. That said it’s a bad sign that even the trailer is bad since it’s supposed to have little teasing bits of the best parts of the movie.
Looks great to me, perfect for switching off to on a Friday night and it can’t be any worse than Ghostbusters II….
MEH.
Yeah…no thank you, though I’d like to stress this indeed has something to do with the gender of the leads.
I doubt it will be as good as the original but then again the original seen now is not as good as I remember it. I think this has potential and I applaud them for going with women for the leads. I don’t know if I’ll go to the theaters for this but I will watch it at some point.
I don’t like it
All girls get suited and booted, everyone’s ready, they glance over at McCarthy, she’s stuck with her zipper.
Enter montage of all the girls aiding McCarthy for 20 minutes to get her into the suit, everyone’s ready now, they pick up the backpacks and begin to walk…
McCarthy stands behind, “I have to pee”.
Guaranteed scene.
Looks like they’ve taken all the good bits from the first film and fucked it right up.
Is this an outright reboot or is it a story about a new generation of ghost busters?
Based on beginning of trailer it’s new team if that text is believing.
It is a reboot and has nothing to do with the old movies.
The old guys wil make cameo appearances but not as Ghostbusters.
So the beginning is indeed a little bit misleading.
To me, going off the trailer if feels like they are trying too hard. The comedy of the original was in the characters interaction as much as the script and was carried brilliantly by the cast.
It does seem overly serious plus there seems to be way too much CGI used.
Unlike so many others I want to see finished movie before I judge it. Who knows, maybe it turns out to be rather good. I find it funny how so many were judging this movie when it was announced just because it has all female team. People always make deal about gender to one direction or other when it should not matter. and this comes from some one who grew up watching original Ghostbusters and playing with Ghostbusters toys.
Maybe some are judging it on gender, but many had valid criticisms. Ive seen a fair amount of people online responding to any criticism/apprehension/dislike by stating its due to them being women, and I find this to be rather unfair. I didnt think the mivie needed a sequel/remake and honestly found the intial announcements of ‘theyre ghostbusters… but female’ to be a bit gimmicky. Watching the trailer there werentreally any jokes about gender, so im hoping the fact theyre female is of little relevence. However the trailer was pretty dire, with broad humour I fidn unapealing, so I maintain my initial stance that this wasnt needed
Ghostbusters worked the first time, after that I’m not so sure. This reboot (I generally dislike reboots) doesn’t have me going wow!
Well…
That was… Bad…
The “jokes” (and I use the term very loosely) weren’t funny, the cast seemed to completely lack the synergy of the original cast, the acting was subpar, and the effects looked terrible.
Did we really need a reboot of that particular franchise?
looks ok,ish.
AND THATS why I’m trying to avoid watching spoilers, it ruined it for me now i really dont want to wach that movie, especially that mcarthy? plays in it, Ididnt liked any of her movies, jokes on level nurcery kids.
This movie already has angry misogynists up in arms over the ‘desecration’ of the Ghostbusters franchise (that has apparently suddenly become a sacred tract rendered in celluloid rather than an amusing but otherwise not very notable pair of comedy action movies – who knew?) by the addition, one assumes, of girl-cooties. If the movie punctures the pomposity of such sexist nitwits, I would be all for it.
Unfortunately, this trailer doesn’t exactly bode well for the movie’s quality as a film. It doesn’t strike me as being very funny, but that is a minor issue compared to the racial stereotyping of the characters (a flaw shared with the original Ghostbusters movies), with the White women being scientists and the Black woman being ‘streetwise’, which seems certain to be little more than a fig leaf in euphemism form for being poorly or wholly uneducated. And that sits alongside the inevitable stream of fat jokes that seem to be a standard part of Melissa McCarthy’s rather problematic shtick.
Fighting one form of social inequality while amplifying another with offensive gusto is a zero sum game. If a movie has aspirations of promoting a more enlightened and inclusivist society, the very least the creators need to be able to do is see their own prejudices and preconceptions clearly and resist their influence. If they can’t be bothered, or are incapable, of doing that, they are destined to fail.
I just thought the guy wanted to make Bridesmaids 2 and was told to make GHostbusters, so he turned Ghostbusters into Bridesmaids.
I never saw this as a social thing, but just that the only thing the Director can make is Bridesmaids.
Oh no no no no no……
Just…
No…
Love the Trailer… can´t wait for the Movie. A lot of fun, great special effects, good actors… I couldn´t understand the complains about that. ^^
Looked promising. Until the cast is shown and McCarthy opens her mouth. Dont understand why people think she is funny. Being loud isn’t funny
I grew up watching Ghostbusters. It was the first video my parents bought me and watched it several times a day when I was young I loved it. My son loves Ghostbusterrs too.
This however is not Ghostbusters. The comedy style is completely wrong, cast feels wrong an all female cast is fine if like any gender you get the right person for the role.
Sigourney said in an interview once she’d love to see a ghostbuster film where Dana’s Oscar would become a ghostbuster. That I feel would have been perfect. Having the old crew train him and others.
Not……THIS!!!!!!
Ghostbusters just hit Amazon Prime Video so I watched for the first time in years. The original was designed to be a family horror film with serious bits and comedy. It was not PC as that wasn’t a term in 1984 and they could make jokes that today would be protested and force the announcement of the need for a safe zone away from that kind of honest comedy.
This trailer showed me how far we have regressed as a people. Looks like a PCfest and as stated above in the comments the made up a series of jokes and wrote a film around it. Don’t take a chance at stepping on a single toe because the backlash will be more than can be handled. As to there being 4 leading women in the roles if anyone complains then they are sexist and horrible people, the choice of McCarthy is poor at best.
To sum up, meh, if they show a better and a bit tighter trailer then maybe but, there looks to be some work needed.
I wasn’t hugely impressed by the trailer but also it was nowhere as bad as some make it seem. I think sometimes we have to accept not everything is for us. Is this a film for the fans of the franchise? Perhaps not but I have a niece who is very excited about seeing it. Maybe it’s time for the next generations to enjoy what we enjoyed in their new way instead of hogging all the stuff we grew up with. We see it in war games all the time , I say let them have this ghostbusters and I’ll keep mine and this way we can all be happy 🙂
Sometimes Hollywood needs to know when to leave well alone, Ghostbusters was one of those bottled lightening moments – any recreation was going to struggle, and this one looks like some bad decisions have been made.
This doesn’t look like it’s going to be amazing or anything, but I’d like to see it.
I think some of the criticism (not here necessarily) has a sexist edge to it, but is mostly down to it being a remake. A lot of people hate remakes.
I don’t. They’re often crap, in which case I may hate them, but I don’t think there’s anything fundamentally wrong with doing one. if you are going to make one, it should have some nods to the original, focus on the same themes as the original, have equivalent characters… but can also change quite a lot.
It’s an awful long time since I’ve seen the original, and probably a lot of younger people haven’t seen it at all. I’m reserving judgement on this on.
I was willing to give it the benefit of doubt.
ok, so they made it into an all-female team.
A bit too much to the other side, but it could be fun.
Names didn’t ring any alarm bells, because I hadn’t seen any of the movies they’d done.
First shots of the team showed them as stereo types that screamed ‘soccer mom’, ‘fat nerd’, ‘punk’ … I was like ‘uh oh’ this may be bad.
And then this trailer … *yikes*
The moment the librarian ghost barfed and the shot was followed by multiple angles of the same event it only appeared to go downhill from there.
Yes there were some cheap / sexist jokes in the original but all of it was part of the characters. It was not an add-on.
Now it feels like the jokes are simply there because of the writers thinking that ‘puke is funny’ must have at least one scene and shoot it from multiple angles with a recall within the same trailer just to remind people how totally hilarious it was.
Who you’re going to call ?
Someone who understands that comedy doesn’t need to include jokes written by a 5 year old.
This trailer is ok up until the point they are in the library, then it just goes down hill. Yet another CGI fap fest with no new ideas or originality. I have no issue with the gender of the cast, however, I do find it strange Chris Hemsworth has been cast in the “Janine” characters role. I can see now we are going to get scenes of the new ghost busters objectifying him and comedy situations ensuing from that. Which to be frank is a step backwards from the previous films. Then we have the Winston character who is the street smart one. Which is an utter cliche, why is implied that the other ghostbusters don’t have street smarts? Oh yes because apparently all scientists are closeted social recluses, its just a backwards attitude to have. In the original film Winston became a ghost buster because it was a paid job, simple yet effective character motivation. The other ghost busters were doing it because the university they were at stopped funding their research, again simple but effective character motivation. This film on the other hand seems to just pigeon hole the characters into broad stereotypes, the fat funny one, the hot techy one, the sciencey one and the street smart one. In short it just doesn’t have any heart and looks utterly manufactured.
