New Merchants & Ronin For Grey For Now’s Test Of Honour
August 29, 2025 by brennon
Grey For Now Games has released a couple of new miniatures for those wanting to add some twists to their games of Test of Honour. You can now get your hands on two new characters for this 28mm Historical skirmish game.
Merchant Captain // Test of Honour
Leading the way, we have the Merchant Captain miniature. Inspired by the Shogun TV series, this new character adds a Western touch to your Test of Honour forces battling across the islands of Japan. He is posed in a fencing stance, ready to draw his rapier and strike at his enemies.
He looks decidedly dashing, especially with his bright doublet and slick-backed hair. You get the sense that he might be quite a rakish character, for good or ill, either seeking to further his own ends or the people that he serves.
Merchant Captain (Details) // Test of Honour
The Merchant Captain comes with special rules for using a rapier and how that might work in the world of the Samurai, who would be unfamiliar with this style of Western swordsmanship. Dash forward and strike at your foes with a daring lunge! The miniature looks great and should be a nice way to change up your games a little bit, especially if you want to explore scenarios based on Western influences impacting Japanese society.
New Armoured Ronin
As well as the Merchant Captain, we also have the Armoured Ronin, who will be seeking to dwell in dishonour during your games of Test of Honour.
Armoured Ronin // Test of Honour
If you prefer the dishonourable route when it comes to Test of Honour, then the Armoured Ronin is perfect. He weilds a fearsome kanabō (heavy club), charging into the fray with no thought to the consequences. He can use the Justified skill to discard dishonour cards as he cuts down his enemies. He can also force honourable Samurai to retreat, which could be a great way to shake up your normal encounters on the tabletop.

In terms of the sculpt, the Armoured Ronin covers his armour with a mino, which is a straw cloak that can be used to keep off the rain. It's a nice touch and marks him out as very different in style from a lot of the other Samurai miniatures in the Test of Honour range. You always learn something new when diving into ranges covering different Historical periods!
Grey For Now Games also mentioned that this miniature could be used to represent an update to the first edition Tadashi figure. Some fascinating new miniatures for Test of Honour that will spice up your warbands in-game.
