Wargames Atlantic’s Sharpe’s Rifles: The Wargame Coming Soon!
June 24, 2025 by brennon
Because Wargames Atlantic don't already have enough to do, they recently announced that they are going to be doing a new Sharpe-based miniatures range and Historical wargame to go alongside it. The preview this week gave us a first look at the miniatures range, plus some ideas on the game.
Richard Sharpe 1809 // Wargames Atlantic
Kicking things off, we'll talk miniatures. To celebrate Richard Sharpe's birthday, 23rd June, Wargames Atlantic revealed that they are going to produce a range of hard plastic miniatures for Bernard Cornwell's Sharpe on the tabletop. This begins with a set that will contain both a 28mm scale and a 54mm version of Sharpe for you to paint for the tabletop.
Richard Sharpe - 54mm // Wargames Atlantic
The 54mm miniature is a display piece which comes with a full scenic base. The 28mm miniature is a multi-part affair which comes with two arm and head options. Chris Hindmarsh, who painted the miniatures you see here, created one in the likeness of Sharpe from the TV show and the other as described by Bernard Cornwell (tall, dark-haired and with a savage scar).
Sharpe - 28mm // Wargames Atlantic
Both miniatures have been designed to match the look of Sharpe from Sharpe's Rifles. Future sets will cover other periods of Sharpe's life as well as other notable characters from Sharpe's Rifles (to begin with), including Harper, Rifleman Harris and more.
Sharpe - Sprue Layout // Wargames Atlantic
This set that you see here is available to pre-order right now and will be released 4th September, the 216th anniversary of Arthur Wellesley becoming Viscount Wellington of Talavera. It has also been noted that Andy Hobday is working on the rules for the game, which will launch next year in the Spring. I am fascinated to see what they do!
Are you going to be snapping up this new take on Sharpe (I have)?

Bas*ard*!
Good Sharpe looking Bas#ard figures for the game table’s 👌
This looks cool. Checking the Atlantic Wargames site this figure is a different sculpt than the “Sharpe” figure in the Rifles box set of troops. That’s good. But the price, 20 pounds !!!
With a 54mm one and a 28mm one in the set, it probably makes sense when you factor in the license as well. I dove in and got it anyway haha
Its $30 Canadian or $25 US for 1 54mm & 1 28mm figure . Maybe as a one off , something to display on your shelf like , IRC , 60mm WW2 figures from Rubicon . But to build a squad or a platoon of these figures if WA releases all the Chosen Men . That’s going to max out my Visa
Now that’s soldiering.
Doesn’t do anything for me.
Missed oppotunity to call the rules ‘Ya B*stards!’ or something 😉
Looks cool but wow is that expensive and the licence seems like a really dumb move. Why give money to people for a 30 year old TV show (it’s not clear if it’s books and movies although they have got an early Sharpe painted with black hair) when rules writers and companies have been using Sharpe stuff for decades for free?
Because people who are old enough to remember Sharpe on TV are young enough to be hostorical wargamers.
And old enough to have plenty of disposable income (in most cases).
Or is that, to use an Americanism, ‘A Can of Worms’ I shouldn’t have opened 🙂
Shit. The. Bed
I just checked the calendar and it isn’t April 1st. Hard plastic Sharpe? For real?
OK you twisted my arm I’ll get one! LOL
So I don’t mind taking the 28mm Dick, but the 54mm Dick is just a bit too big for me.
Not sure that putting a 54mm and a 28mm version in the same box and selling them together will work.
I do like the idea of the game, but think I will wait to see if they release a starter set like they did with Barons War 2.
The WA British Riflemen box already have heads that look very much like Sharpe & Harper , plus they give you a Volley Gun . You get 32 figures for 25 pounds
Was excited by the headline, but having to get a 54mm version and £20 for each character means it’s not for me. Already some great proxy minis out there in 28mm at a fraction of the price.
