If you've been tempted by the idea of diving into some Historical wargaming, you might want to check out the Starter Packs that you can get from WoFun Games. These come with armies that you can simply pop out and play using plexiglass figures in 18mm and 28mm for a variety of periods.

There are a variety of these sets to choose from, which have been designed for newcomers to Historical wargaming to just dive in and start playing with, without the hassle of painting anything. They use rules designed by Andy Callan, who has put together both Basic and Advanced rules for people to use when setting up to play their games.
For example, the English Civil War set (above) comes with 318 figurines on ten Plexiglass sprues, breaking down into a Royalist and Parliamentarian Army featuring Infantry, Cavalry, Artillery and Mounted Officers that match either side.
All of the rules are available FOR FREE over on the WoFun website so you can pick and choose the period you prefer and go from there.
If you don't want to go for the English Civil War, you could also try the likes of the Seven Years' War...

...or perhaps the Peninsular War if you want to get stuck into a bit of Napoleonic warfare. Both of these sets are in 28mm scale but you can also get your hands on 18mm scale packs if you prefer which you can find HERE.

For players of Morten et Gloriam or the MeG-curious, you can also pick up a selection of sets for some Ancient warfare. For example, you could get your hands on the Wars of Alexander the Great set, which comes with two big Macedonian and Persian armies for the tabletop.

All of these Starter Packs feel like they would be great entry points into Historical wargaming without the hassle of having to build and paint a huge amount of miniatures. You get the splendour and the pageantry of 28mm scale battles (or 18mm) but without worrying about uniforms and getting all those banners correct.
I think this is a great idea and could be fun for a newcomer or someone who loves Historical wargaming but doesn't the commitment of the hobby side of things.
What do you think?

“28-flat” is a great descriptive catchword. Almost like slap-chop. If I where into historical I’d be tempted.
Nice to have a low-cost alternative to get started in Mortem et Gloriam.
