About the Project

Because I don't play enough game systems already and keep looking at it, let's dust off this copy of Star Saga and get into Deadzone 3rd edition!

I picked up the Vallejo Air Metallics set to add to my Vallejo Special Effects set, bust out the airbrush and went at it.

The aim here is a simple punchy paint scheme that looks effective but won’t take me months to get done. I am experimenting with chipping medium to deliver the illusion of detail and effort while learning to use my airbrush for more than just priming. By liberally spraying areas in other colours. Baby steps!

Step 2, airbrushing with the other 'Rust' that comes in the same set but has a different catalogue number - because that isn't at all confusing.Step 2, airbrushing with the other 'Rust' that comes in the same set but has a different catalogue number - because that isn't at all confusing.
Going to the Vallejo special effects set, another two rusty effect paints were applied watered down a bit by brush. I forgot to take a picture of the bottles here, but I applied chipping medium through the airbush then applied the basecoat of Medium Gunship Grey. I wasn't worried about 100% coverage because I want this is to look weathered and beat up at the end.I forgot to take a picture of the bottles here, but I applied chipping medium through the airbush then applied the basecoat of Medium Gunship Grey. This is actually the same colour grey as in the last image, but under different light and with the contrasting Jade Green applied by brush. This is actually the same colour grey as in the last image, but under different light and with the contrasting Jade Green applied by brush.
I then took my largest air brush cleaning tool, dunked it in water and started scrubbing back! At this point I realised I never put any steel colours into the layering so will be tweaking that as we go into full production.I then took my largest air brush cleaning tool, dunked it in water and started scrubbing back! It has been on the cards for awhile now to build a Deadzone using Mantic’s kits, and awhile back I laid hands on two starter sets. I have been using Battlesystem’s card terrain from my Core Space sets but as my club are putting on a Deadzone tournament in August I now have a more pressing need to get more terrain built!

Thankfully, I invested in an airbrush for Christmas and fully plan on using it heavily for this!

And with that, I have a fully painted Star Saga set and have cleared my Deadzone backlog!

I do intend to add more, of course, but I get to finish the year with this off my to do list.

Continuing the theme of ‘bang them out fast and get it done’ we have the tables and cabinets finished.

Just a couple of mysterious laboratory tanks and half a dozen crates to go!

Doors!  You won’t get anywhere without doors!  Truly a vital element of any dungeon crawler, the ability to get between rooms!
