Infinity 3rd Ed Sneak Peek: Camouflage Rules!
July 30, 2014 by crew
We have Carlos in the studio with Killian to give you a sneak peek at what's coming up in the 3rd Edition rules for Infinity! In this video they'll be chatting about the Camouflage Rules and how they've been made clearer and more straight forward.
If you want to be a cool sci-fi stealth warrior on the battlefield then this is the place to find out all about it!

Ok I’m sold plz take my money 🙂
September can’t come fast enough for that starter box set.
I’m really excited for this change. It sets a clear difference between regular and TO camo, as well as makes these models capable of targeting multi wound models like TAGs.
Yeah, can’t wait to get my hands on this.
excellent change, should be much more obvious how to play with it. As a relative new comer, I could it quite tricky to understand the old rules with no-one experienced with the ruleset in our gaming group. Ace
Well guys, ok! I will play this 🙂
Still loving what I am seeing with 3rd ed
Loving the pose
I love this change
The +12 / -12 ruling is a nice touch. Very cool!
Very welcomed change to the camo rule! -12 is gonna hurt them AROs which now justifies camo more imho.
Very cool, as someone who played in 2nd edition I can’t complain with the implementation of Camo for 3rd.
Good to see that the new rules are improving the system rather than just an edition change as a cash grab.
comment, comment, comment… is it working?
I like the explanation of the rule change. Corus Belli = great company who cares about the game experience.
Anything that straightens the rules is a plus in my book. My army lists regularly grow twice their size and beyond when I attach special rules and clarifications thereof as a QRS. So, thanks for the effort, guys!
Wonder how many times will a basic camo attacker manage to get -12 on AROs?
Wow, that’s very clear unlike the previews editions camo rules.
I am loving these sneak peaks, really exciting.
I love how the TO snipers are now so god at long range but can still die easily at short range. makes the game a little more realistic but will force people to play around the advantages. AD troops or infiltrators with flamers will be good now.I just wonder if you get the advantage in ARO?
I think new rules could be better
I’m gonna have a cool stealth TAG on the table! Cutter FTW 🙂
Instead of buying 2nd edition I’ve been eagerly awaiting 3rd.
nice change and great explanation!!
ohh an a vid about camo, nice
Can`t September be like now…..
It is so interesting to hear from the designers first hand about the process they go through when considering introducing new or changing existing rules or mechanics. Certain other companies could take note of this approach! 😛
I am really looking forward to this box, I’ve never played infinity but these videos are making me think it’s only a matter of time before I get into it!
Best video yet. Carlos really does an excellent job explaining the mindset of the designers at CB.
I love that Infinitiy has a tech level where there’s a need for this sort of camo rule. In my mind’s eye I’m seeing Predator (and I like it)
Great adjustment – the -3 to hit will mitigate a lot of headaches!
Great Vid!
Need..this…box…now
good work guys.
Have we a date for the new ver 3 rulebook?
any news on when the new rulebook arrives ?
Interesting. Guess shooting out of zero visibility will be handled similarly then. I really like it.
Not played the older edition but this seems like a nice clear rule to me
nice change but then -12 will get us surely to inposible shots, that will be automiss, will be nice adittion if you are unable to fire cause 0s or -1 so you get no rolling, mmm
Ok. I’m getting more and more interested in this game. Great video, camuflage rule looks really interesting and as I see it quite solid also.
Keep calm and dodge
More new rules please.
God it’s so refreshing to see a company that puts alot of thought into rules to make a great game! and not just at micro level but a macro level as well! seriously any tabletop gamer not playing infinity now is just straight up in denial of the best 28 mm game out there!
Still need to experiment with how many camo tokens I can deploy
The limits on modifiers actually sound good, it limits a lot of the ODD frustrations
Wow. It blows me away how considerate of their players these guys are. They know when to admit that something is flawed and how to make a change to it. Corvus Belli, you are some great guys!
Keep up the good work guys
The more I see of N3, the more I’m glad to be headed to GenCon in two weeks…
Stacking negative modifiers makes sense for camo. It fits the rule system much better. I’m also glad to hear that template weapons do not need to roll to hit.
Excited to get hands on a new rule book.
Thanks for all you guys do!
Very good Changes
Really hoping 3rd edition clarifies the rules. I want to play this game, but I cannot get past the rules.
I think the new camo rules are way better than the old ones. Mathematically they are better and they are also simpler to understand.
-12 to hit my Cutter? I’ll take it.
I can’t wait to get my hands on some of these minis! They just get better and better.
I think I love that change. When we learned to play, did a lot of mistakes until an experienced player came and explained how that work. I hope the whole rules will be in that path.
Nice to see Kilean in the vids! Looking forward to the other infinity videos and the final combat video 😉
I love CB’s approach to game design. Maybe some ôter company Could take notice…
I really like how they are changing the rules, looks like it will flow so much better.
Having never played I can’t really comment on the change but the consensus seems to be that it’s a good one and changing it certainly shows the effort put into the rules which is great.
GW should take notes. This is how you make a new edition – careful change and lots of playtesting! Great videos, love to see insight in the game development.
Cool stuff
awesome stuff!
Fair….I would love if they ´d alow camo markers to not get discovered when you are B2B, just for those monofilament ninja times 😉
Thanks for this video serie !
that sounds easy. lets wait til if we find another new difficulties with this new rule. i like the way how they are changing the rules not for the sake of it. i know why i play infinity instead of xx.
Can’t wait to try out the new camo rules. I think they will have a very similar end result, but I really like the idea of being a little bit harder to hit and having some chance to block incoming shots. Camo direct templates will be a lot less fun though!
I want the box and the 3rd ed rules yesterday. I am an infinity junkie.
Now u see me, now u dont
I do like that change. A games company listening to customer feedback! Whatever next.
Astounding Job
Loving the look of version 3 of Infinity.
Well, shoot…now I have to get that sweet neoprene mat to go along with the starter box. And more terrain, of course…
nice change to the rules and not affect all the game, nice job guys
This is really intriguing.
It will be nice to start the game in a brabd new edition.
Interesting… This will complicate a little the play !
Stealth way or no way 🙂
I’d like to see an example of this mechanic on live…
Camouflage was always a rule I had problem tackling. I like the way it was simplified to “fit” the rest of the rules. Good job!
boy, i would sure like to win, would give me a good base to get started into the game on
I wish every game company was as open as you guys are. I love how you seriously evaluate changes and look at how they impact the rest of the game. so glad to be giving you my money. Now send me my toys dang it.
Damn my Nomads and my JSA enjoy the Cammo rules – I’m looking forward to try these new adjustments out.
If I would should have an opinion of this rule in first instance I think it is that I don’t like it. I’m a Combined Army player, Shasvastii for be more precise and this is going to be a good head ache for me. Of course, my TO sniper is going to be more difficult to be hit but, what happen with the rest of my crew? how is supposed that they are going to survive with their shotguns and combi rifles? Well… I want to play the new rules and I hope to be mistaken.
I’m very impressed by the thought, consideration, and testing that went into 3rd Edition that is evidenced in the new camouflage rules. Keep up the great work!
So, question of the day, will this -3 apply to CC as well (probably not, but then again, a ghost is still a ghost in CC)? Because that would add some value to certain D-charge wielding Al Hawwa 🙂
Thats 1 major grey area tidied up in what seems like a pretty simple fashion. Sweet. Bring on more vids lads
Great change. More of this please
Me want big time. Its in pre-order right now…
This rules set just keeps on getting more interesting.
I’m new to Infinity but the rule change seems pretty easy to understand. It sounds like this was a good element to revise.
More streamlined rule, yay, still exception with direct template weapons… I wish they were streamlined to FtF with ridicolous bonuses.
Always good to hear about better rule sets
Does seem to be simple enough to not disturbe the flow of the game and still be versitile and powerfull enough to see use.
Good stuff
oooh new stuff
Best game ever- and still improving.
thank you so much for updating the camo rules
Good presenting and interviewing there Killean! I hope BoW get you back in for more Infinity content beyond Op: Icestorm week.
I like the new rule alot!
However Ihave a question: does the -3 on AROs in reaction to a surprise attack only affect the target orevery AROing model?
Sounds great.
wicky skill !!
3rd edition Infinity will become part of my collection. Sooner rather than later!
very nice… but sadly hard for me to understand the spanenglish 🙂
Maybe we should start thinking of organising regional Operation Icestorm leagues.
Well, didn’t see that coming
What aboit the viral weapons, they always annihalate me
I’m getting very excited to get my Infinity stuff now! 🙂
I can’t find SpecOps charasters miniatures in their store…there was some kind of special campaign or addon for them I remember…They was pretty cool and badass…=(
Liking the sound of the rule changes, anything that streamlines the game but keeps its tactical mechanics can only be a good thing.
So can you now ARO Shoot against a camo token? Or did we just ease the order of operation problems slightly?
A move towards consistency is always appreciated although I do feel sorry for Uxia McNeil now since she pretty much has to get into DT range to hit with her Assault Pistols and there is no longer the reassurance that you *could* drop.your opponent before he blasts you with his Chain Rifle. It does mean that there is less of a gap between Mimetsim and Camouflage though.. it’s just means one penalty less for your opponent.
It just means one less penalty for your opponent, rather.
Even though I have limited previous experiance with playing Inifnity, it seems like streamling them is a good idea. Im impressed with the amount of thought that Carlos and the Inifinity-team seems to have put into creating the game.
I am amazed of how deep this game is!!!
Nice change. CB has made the rule cleaner and better at the same time. First of many I am sure.
It’s too bad the PanO side didn’t get any Camo guys in box 🙁
Very useful details
interesting cannot wait to see more of the rules
The main problem we have is that corvus belly usually puts the minis for sale almost as soon as they are presented, the waiting for this pack will be excruciating.
I think it’s a great change, loving it!
It’s good to see that Camo troops have a better chance at handling stronger targets. Hopefully they can keep them busy long enough so that the big guns can set up and take them down.
I am liking the whole new look, a lot more scifi and less comic book.
we appreciate the effort to make the rules more clear… thanks CB for listening to the players!
Sounds like a lot of thought went into these rules changes.
Just learning Infinity at the moment and I love the game but the number of exceptions/additions/special rules is a little daunting. However it is this which also differentiates and gives the game such great depth and is what seems to give you such a wonderful and eclectic choice when it comes to building a force or selecting your models. But as someone who is only just getting to grips with the rules anything that makes things easier to understand and faster to play without losing the cinematic intent has to be a good thing.
We need more Infinity batreps 😀
mmm, I liked the camouflage from 2nd ed but I guess we will get accopstom to the 3rd very quickly.
B.
Thanks for the rules update!
Loving these videos.
But still trying to persuade the other half that this is a must buy 🙂
Great explanation
Thank you, I think I finally understand the camp rules.
Nice to see a simplification of camo
Ouch, -9 minimum modifier is going to make them a lot more versatile.
I’m glad they’ve made an effort to simplify camo, but doesn’t this make ODD strictly better than CH: Camouflage? With ODD you impose a -6 all the time. With CH: Camouflage you would impose -6 only when you surprise the enemy, and -3 otherwise.
I am glad this mechanic is being streamlined. This and other rules being streamlined will be very good for teaching new players!
nice vid, cant wait to get my hands on icestorm now
So it seems like flamethrowers are going to be even more prevalent with camo being a face to face roll now. They now trump Camo, TO, Tohaa bioarmor,ODD, Impersonation, mimetism, and Holoprojectors.
Interesting changes. I like how doing an attack out of camo can’t really be a bad plan anymore! 🙂
Can’t wait to get my starter box
Really like the new Camo rules, Much clearer.
I am still a bit new to the game, but the camouflage concept is one I want to fully understand.
I like the new rule, easy to understand. I think with their extensive playtesting it’ll work out fine.
his example is a TO camo sniper… What about regular camo troops that have medium or short range like a lot of Ariadna? My Chasseurs just got nerfed. I would also be careful attacking a TAG. The surprise only works once and those things tend to shrug off damage due to high armor and multiple wounds. I don’t see that much difference in that respect.
Hehe, gimme my specter now, I would like to try a thing or two…
Interesting change and I think for the better. Would need to play a few games with the new rules to say for sure.
Seems to be an INFINITY for Dummies edition, but the change to CAMO is not so big as feels at first…we shall no fear the changes. Cheers from Venezuela!
I just finished building lists I like and now…I know the phrase is ‘shut up and take my money’ but please carlos, keep talking; you’re charming the money right out of my wallet!
Stop torturing me with these great videos.
Just awesome!
Interesting changes. It will take some time to get used to the new was but I think it will be great for 3rd.
Really good changes, makes the rule simpler while ensuring camo is a powerful tool.
Really cool Video!!!!
A great way to handle Camoflague
Now we just need to see a batrep with the new rules 😀
Exciting rule.
Seems to be a great change … Can’t wait to try 🙂
Glad the Camo rule is a bit clearer now although a shame my old Oniwaban’s and Ninja’s lose a bit of Melee effectiveness, mind you with these starters I may wind up building more for my Nomads anyway :P…or even Pan O can’t decide will just get them all haha
Camo video is interesting, it has made me ask for more information about Infinty but I am still not sold on it.
Never played 2nd edition, so this all new to me. 99.3% I’m getting this.
What Carlos said about logic and structure to a rule set is absolutely right. We’ve been discussing this in our club for years now and I think it’s the major point which makes the difference between good and bad rule sets. Having a basic idea apply to nearly all rules and reduce exceptions. 40k is a prime example which degraded from intuitiv and good rules to a collection of exception mixing. Just my 2 cents.
A gaming company that genuinely cares about the rules that they are writing and that sees FAQ’s almost as a failure so would not rush a new edition. What a novel approach.
Cool spektr!
awesome sauce
At first I did not like the new camo rule but, now! I have a change of heart. I’m going to like this rule very much.Thank you Carlos and Beast of war for taking the time to talk about this new rule.
Not sure how this makes camo more effective as Carlos says. Makes offensive play with camo troops pretty terrible as they can’t camo pop those 5 pt Chain Rifle Warbands anymore…
Well, that’s interesting and open few questions:will the marker should be discovered before any action against the miniature as before in 2nd ed? Will the other mechanics short of camouflage attack change or remain the same? Are we to be expecting a similar walk to consistency in the rules to change the “surprise attack through smoke” combo with MSVL2+?
All in all an interesting anticipation of the rule but not enough to grasp the new game mechanic to me. I suppose we need to wait more to get really acquainted but that’s good.
On meta maybe this will affect Shasvaasti and Ariadna the most but as I pointed out it’s too early to judge.Let’s wait and finger crossing. indeed it’s easy to trust CB on rule playtesting more than other companies who cares little to nothing about rule consistency.
So, now what’s are we get tomorrow? Can’t wait 😀
Oh man. I love the new look of Infinity! And the scale of play being just about a squad instead of entire armies is an idea I can’t get enough of!
Man I can’t wait to get my hands on this the changes sounds good.
The changes sound really good
great explanation
+3 modifier FTF instead of first shot std roll seems like fair trade off to me
I like the new camo rule much better!
This was a rule I didnt get straight away, so it’s good to see it is being streamlined. Also good to see CB taking note of player feedback on it.
Take even more of my money! Though with Corvus Belli, I feel it is well worth it!
Love that it is a F to F roll. This will make for some interesting tactics. Setting up the other guys TO marker to hammer him with your own. Very cool.
Can’t wait for GenCon!
The more I see the more I like (unless it’s in camo:))
I liked the old rules though I understand the need for streamlining. I am just a tiny bit worried that this will make high burst weapons like HMG’s outperform low burst weapons like the snipers and missile launchers since it is now a modified face-to-face and more dice always role closer to average.
I think I may pre-order the Icestorm pack, seem to be an excellent way to get into Infinity.
Choosing your own models may be more fun but requires more work and I’m not up to that knowledge I kinda feel. And since there’s some terrain, dice and rulers in the package and it’s cheaper than single miniatures .. 🙂
I might need to order soon. Maybe play the ‘but I have a broken leg’ card on the wife.
Not sure I like the change. My autocannon seems to lose out on this change. I will withhold judgement, but I am not optimistic.
I preordered this starter to teach myself and my girlfriend to play, these third edition rules changes are extremely welcome to a new player!
This is going to take a little getting used to but it’s so worth it
Awesome new rules spoilers
I like the changes have high hopes for 3rd edition
Great idea to change it to a face to face roll!
Sneaky little bastards! Is it possible to build a force with just camouflage guys (and does it make sense in respect of effectivity)?
Nice, liking the streamlined approach. One of main difficulties in getting my gaming group into this has been the complicated special rules.
I still find it funny that the ‘stealth trooper’ has a bright glowing chestplate 😀
Great work Killian!
I may have missed it but does a Camo marker reveal after it’s attacked in 3rd ed? These changes would suggest that it’s not the case and you can remain stealthed in order to maintain your threat.
Also, would a camo marker get the surprise modifier on their ARO on a unit trying to discover them?
Sounds like an improvement.
I think it is a good change, more coherent with the rest of the game.
I like the change a lot. Looking forward to September!
nice vid
Interesting to see the logic of game development. Impressive thought has gone into the new rules edition, and the integration of those rules. Will be interested if any game breakers are discovered, but it doesn’t look like it.
Cant wait for 3rd Ed rulebook
I’m impressed by the depth their testing process and the consistent, logical approach that permeates all parts of their design and development.
I like Carlos’ design philosophy that all rules must follow an internal logic to the game.
ninja!
nice change
Camo rules fix 🙂 can’t wait to get to testing these out.
Aaah so interesting! Every video gets me more and more excited about this!
Can’t wait to get started! September can’t come fast enough.
Sounds great, love how much effort they’ve put into 3rd ed. Guess this will apply to impersonators too? And interested to see what it does to close combat too.
Love the new Spektr!
really interesting the new limit to modifiers and the surprise shot
Looks good but so many factors that make me wonder about other rule changes to see if this unbalances certain combat. Like dodging your way to CC via como shoot orders then reaction dodge into CC or will anyone take BS 10 minis any more knowing they are in trouble with odds stacked, yet others have a slim chance still.
Mmmm…I can´t wait to see how all the changes work together on 3rd edition 😉
Looking forwards to trying this out!
Wow, just a little change, and the use of some troops changes dramatically, total reaction will get a slight chance against normal camo but be almost useless against TO, I’m curious to see what’s been done to direct template weapons
That new mechanic sounds good. It should make fighting camo a lot quicker. But with the modifier cap at 12, which at least TO camo will most often hit, won’t that mean that most basic troops with a BS of 12 or less won’t get to shoot back at all?
I keep rewatching these so I know more of what l’ll be doing when I pick up a box.
Can’t wait to see this at GenCon.
Whoa. Love the new surprise rules. Very cool.
Yay, streamlined Camo rules. Felt like you ahd to have a PHD in Infinity to know all the interactions before. 🙂
I wonder ho this will effect shirt range to camo users like ninjas.
Awesome stuff! Can’t wait for the 3rd Ed rules.
This is brilliant – camo really needed sorting out
Interesting game change…
great simplification to the Camo rules while still maintaining the feel
Anybody knows when the new rule book is due for release?
I’m liking this changes, people here get scared from infinity becouse it has so many rules.
I like the changes
Interesting changes for the camouflage rules… Can’t wait to get my hands on the new rulebook.
simplest is best. : )
Cool video. Keep ’em coming. 🙂
Watch out Ariadna. Haqq is coming.
Awesome, I can’t wait!
Would love a chance at winning some Infinity minis!
Cool mechanic!
Seems interesting, not sure if it is good for me as a Military Order PanO force, with very limited camo.
I guess the change is okay. Although with the new weapon ranges and the maximum modifier of +/- 12 the -3 “surprise mod” will pretty often be wasted.
Like the game ethics
I love the way they’ve approached the new edition
Love the change. Glad to see it is no longer the exception to the rule!
Don’t know yet how to use it, but I hope to soon.
This just keeps getting better.
Very, very cool. Also learning some key points from Carlos about rules that can affect the entire game and play testing each component before adding new rules.
These rules rule!
Interesting change on camo, though I feel that they should not have taken away the Combat Camo first strike.
I’m having a lot of trouble understanding Carlos due to his accent, but what i’m seeing doesnt make me think that the camo rules are better. Easier to explain, yes, but not better. Given how my three forces are a Shasvaasti, Ninja heavy JSA, and a fairly Camo heavy Nomad force, this does not bode well for me.
The new camo looks really promising guys.
WOW!
WOW! Nice rules- Amazing!!
I always thought a TO was like a predator from the film.
Despite I have not tested yet, it looks like to me that TO won’t be a canopener as most tags have either long range weapons(HMG) and big templates(heavy flamethrower) so, for a TO it’s still going to be very hard to scratch a tag(most of them carry combi/shotgun) even with a sniper rifle range change, every tag will always have the chances of killing that TO(there are no tags with BS 12 or less). Aftershave testing we’ll see but camos which was one of the nicest and hardest part of the rules to use have lost fire power. Nevermind, now camos will be what they should be always… Specialists to fulfill missions/to prevent your opponent to fulfill his/her ones +snipers hunting high priority targets from an eagle’s nest at a great distance.
Unleashing all the sneaky ninja types, Infinity 3rd style!
Good stuff
Really looking forward to getting the Infinity Operation: Icestorm starter box, learning the game and getting other involved. Great work from Corvus Belli and Beasts of War! Awesome game and an awesome insight!
I really like this, combat camo at the moment was a bit off. As Carlos says, you would pick on something week as if you didn’t kill it then you would face a good chance of dying in return (as the roll was not face to face). Does this mean you can dodge at an extra -3 as well?
I like that. So does the minus 3 happen with close combat too?
This rulechange looks more plausible and helps mainstream the game. I like the change!
These changes will really change the way CAMO troops will be played 😀
Should make a lot of the less popular camouflage and TO models a lot more interesting, I’m particularly interested in how accurate the Oniwaban is now and how useful it will be, especially considering the Shotgun buff to go with it.
We need a female model for Spektr with new look
More Infinity please
Oh damn, now I’m just going to have to love my intruders even more.
Interesting change for camo rule. The game will be more nervous !
wow…love this more and more
Ah very interesting. I agree that Camo is one of the more cumbersome Infinity rules. Streamlining camo is an excellent idea, as it does often sidestep the standard infinity mechanics. We played two quick games with 2nd edition rules using the new weapon range bands and combat camo because we were so excited. They worked out pretty well, I’m excited to see the whole rules set!
you should have Hide in Shadows…….and Move silent
As much as I’m interested in seeing how the new rules will work, all I can think is this:
Well, I have Yu Jing, Ariadna and Nomads, so now I need to read these rules till the pages burn.
Well, there goes my money…
Like the new rules
Really like this change..!
wonderful stuff
Being surprised by the camouflaged guy 😀
Preordered my copy!
Nice balance tweak… Like it!
Obviously a lot of thought has gone into the 3rd edition rules changes. Great to see an attempt to make a game as balanced as this seems to be.
For modt part it seems.like good rules…not quite sure about low level burst weaponry though.
Look forward to getting minis on the table and trying all this out!
Totally agree, this is a great change that makes more sense.
Like the new rules, can’t wait to try it out.
So far i like the new models. Hopefully the new models wont have so many ity bity bits
Good change imo.
Haven’t been an Infinity fan until now. The mechanics look quite interesting.
Love the new camo rules!
Here’s hoping that the streamlined rules draw a bigger player base.
Having just been introduced to Infinity, I find these changes, in particular, a god-send! It seems so much simpler than the current system and, therefore, so much easier to learn!
Cant wait for my set to arrive now.
Glad rules are being streamlined for this edition.
Clear explanation and I like the shift to keep all modifier rules in the same vein to reduce confusion. Very astute to realize they have had to explain too many unique scenarios with the old rules.
I love the rules for this game.
Thank you very much for this information.
Nice change…
Not sure if i like the new camo, sneak up and stab a guy i n the back was just too much fun.
Camo is probably one of the most interesting rules for infinity. And it can be a right pain in the a**e to deal with. I love it.
The new camo rules are much improved! Thanks Corvus Belli! 🙂
Camo rocks.
Not played this game before so don’t know if the differences are big or not.
I avoided taking camo as it confused my small mind, not any more!
Absolutely love the new Nomad sculpts and can’t wait for my preorder to arrive. Excellent work CB!!
Sounds great.
Time to get sneeky
wow
