Infinity 3rd Ed Sneak Peek: Weapon Range Changes!
July 31, 2014 by dignity
The guys settle down for another look at the upcoming changes to the Infinity universe as 3rd Edition is just around the corner! This time around, the discussion focuses in on Weapon Range Changes, as Killian zeros in on what could be one of the most major changes players of Infinity could be facing in the new book!

Many thanks for the downloadable weapons chart PDF, very helpful.
Can’t wait for the 3rd ed!
Weapons chart downloaded ready for printing and laminating. That’s going to be handy once my box arrives
can’t wait to try the new range of weapons!
Looks like i picked a good time to start with infinity
Those changes will be important. Epic Shotguns !
This is huge. I’m glad to see Light Shotguns getting a buff. Boarding and Heavy shotguns were always super usable due to the ability to load AP ammo for very little cost, but I think the “shotgun tax” is a thing of the past.
I don’t think I’ve ever actually fielded a shotgun before, that’s about to change for sure!
Loving Infinity week.
I have a very serious question for CB…why do you keep making ridiculously cool miniatures for every faction…I can’t collect them all dammit 😛 Na but seriously I like the sound of these changes and look forward to seeing more, ordered my Op. Icestorm already so no just the long wait will have to paint my Nomads to tide me by 😀 Thanks for such a great game, setting and aesthetic! And BoW thanks for these vids keep ’em coming!
Boarding shotgun FTW.
Very interesting moments to come…
Can’t wait to get playing this.
Looking and sounding better every video
Ka-chik, BOOM!
Haqqislam infantry thanks Corvus Belli 😀
Shotguns in corridors, oh yes
Very cool stuff! And thank you for the Weapons Range Chart PDF. That’ll definitely come in handy.
Cheers!
For once I feel like a company listened to its fans and changed the rules to make the game better, more fun, and have deeper strategy.
good video, nice changes to the range bands. Really nice to see shotguns getting useful. Also sweet with the buff to grenades.
And they playtest the rules. So awesome
Keep the videos coming, it makes waiting for the box a little better 🙂
I don’t want Operation Ice Storm Week to end!
Not playing yet so comparison with old isn’t useful – chart will be though!
Having seen some gameplay elsewhere on YouTube I can see how this might give better balance avoiding the “Run your killing machine around turn 1 using most of your orders” syndrome, especially is some AROs become more risky for an attacker. Rotating orders and trickier troop choices ahead!
Lokks intersting. Hope that so many modifires won’t slow the game to much.
From the video it looks like the modifiers are being simplified in N3. For example 2nd edition has a few guns whose range bands were 4″ multiples while almost everything else was 8″ multiples. From this chart they seem to have all been moved to 8″ multiples.
It is getting cleaner, but not losing depth, great job!!
Looking forward to E3, looking forward to September for the gencon pack too.
Just wish I could have it all now lol.
Been a long time since I was so excited about a game.
looking forward to v3
Love most of the changes, just hoping the shotgun lost the teardrop template or ad and infiltrators will be silly.
newbie question: What is the standard table size in infinity?
4×4′.
I call shot-gun! I like that each weapon will have its day now so to speak, like the pistol vs hmg example.
this is looking better and better
I really enjoy these design decisions with the weapon ranges – I never contemplated using Gao-Rael units with shotguns (when the had access to sniper rifles) – now the troop profile with shotgun (and MSV) feel like they could be dedicated anti-camouflage units.
I don’t even play with models that pay that dreaded ‘shotgun-tax’ and I feel it’s a smart design.
Boarding shotgun FTW.
this chart is going to be super handy, thanks!
on pre- order now lol
It’s good to see that each weapon now has a specific purpose in the game.
cool weapons chart. the bonuses from this and the min/max of =12/+12 from previous episode give a good idea of what weapons I’d prefer.
The 3rd edition looks very interesting !
I already used my zeroes with boarding shotguns. Now I’m even more justified
Another Great Video! Would really love to see a full blown game with all the rules.
This looks amazing!
Cant wait to play 3rd Ed.
Wow. This is certainly going to cause a lot of gameplay changes.
Wonder what would the cost changes be like?
I like these changes, can’t wait for more information on 3rd edition!
I’m glad to see the heavy machine gun lose a little bit of power
I just got a starter pack for the Nomads Corregidor Sectorial Army and I am both delighted to see that they are modeled using actual human proportions (not heroic scale) and terrified at the prospect of trying to paint these little bastards (especially given the quality of paint jobs shown by CBs resident artist).
Now I just need CB to release the starter set (which is on pre-order) and I am ready to get stuck into 3ed Infinity…
This is looking really nice.
Loving the changes. Great work.
That’s a nice chart, visually very appealing. Hope that’s the direction Infinity explores further.
I’ll keep my heavy rocket launcher with x-visor still, thank you:)
the new range chart makes sense and looks to be really useful
If I wasn’t a fan of shotguns models before, I certainly am now
I feel less bad about my shotgun toting model now
And less bad about having faction without many HMGs, since they aren’t the ultimate weapon anymore
Great stuff Sniper nastiness ahoy! Great vid. Cheers gents.
Sniper nastiness ahoy. Great video gents.
Nice video 🙂
Wooh ! nice one.
This way, it gives a proper personality to each weapon, know i can think about a lot of boarding shotgun, let’s see the price though :p.
smoke grenade will be over powered don’t you think ?
Beautiful! I love balance
Very Interesting.
Was just wondering how to get such a chart and I see a link in the description. AWESOME!
Oh man, huge changes here. HUGE. Still looking forward to it, but the nerfing of the HMG does hurt my TAGs considerably. Hopefully new troop profiles will be given to TAGs who don’t have a good close range option.
Interesting, have to test this new ranges in a game but i think the power of a weapon its more cuestion of the burst of the weapon than the range.
I could’ve used that sniper bump a few games back, lol.
I’m so glad I go on Honeymoon for majority of August. The wait for Icestorm is already betting unbearable and there’s still a month to go!!!
I like those changes, hope to try them out soon.
That looks pretty easy to follow, it seems a little more realistic as well. Well done CB!
Yay for buffed shotguns. Now perhaps I can hit those pesky ODD troopers.
3rd edition looks very solid so far.
really liking the extension of the grenades range; hopefully we’ll see more use of them. I know I currently fail to utilize them due to the poor range band they currently have.
Very interesting and meaningful changes… Encourages more versatile lists.
I like the new rules for shotguns.
So Shotguns are +6 on short range across the board? Very nice for my Haqqislam army.
nice!!
Sweet. I like what I’m seeing.
I love the range changes! The rules are simpler AND more representative of how the weapons would be affected by range in the real world.
It’s funny how today’s video deals with weapon variety. Just last night I was watching an older BoW video where they were demoing the Prisoner P-09 scenario (around the time of the Campaign Paradiso release, I guess), and at one point a trooper needs to decide between a shotgun or a combi-rifle. I was so disappointed when the shotgun was written off as having a minor difference. Tactical flexibility is the life blood of strategy games.
That Corvus Belli has gone in and overhauled such a basic mechanic is very encouraging. It indicates the level of detail and consideration they’ve put into the upcoming 3rd edition.
Interesting that they tested rules in modules. That’s a good way to do it! So I saw that special weapons would be mentioned later, will this cover the HMC as well? Will the more specialized weapons like the Ojotnik have a different range?
Special ammo rather than special weapons, if I heard it right.
I foresee me picking shotgun option a lot more frequently in the future 🙂
I’m no Infinity expert but I love that you’ve shared this range chart so folks can play with it in 2nd edition games. That’s a superb idea. Bravo Corvus Belli!
Interisting Changes
Great changes, shotgun knights will be cool to field 🙂
Looks like the Light Shotgun tax is justified now. Bring on N3!
3rd edition sounds better and better
Whoa. Excellent.
Wow! Switching up the shotgun range is amazing! It looks like 3rd edition will be more midrange and up close fighting.
Cheers for the download!
Nice changes all around. Haqqislam players will love this.
I’ve yet to play a game but that was what I thought all that meant. I’m about to start Haqqislam; they’re the next batch that I’ll prime. 7 out of the 9 models in that batch have shotguns.
I really like that there will be more differences in the weapons, instead of ‘just take the HMG’. I am sad the Spitfire is only 0 at 0-8″ but it’s still a great weapon. I also hope the +6 for shotguns is enough to make them more useful. I know they’ll be great up close, but getting there might get you killed being 0 at 8-16.
Sounds CorvusBelly really cleaned up the rules 🙂
Awesome stuff! Can’t wait for the 3rd Ed rules.
All these videos and teasers are getting me excited to get my Icestorm box and start playing some Infinity 🙂
The tweaks that you are making are fantastic.
Why must we wait so long to get our claws on this thing?
Looking good.
I’m glad we’re trying to make all of the options viable.
Ghulam Infantry just became so much better 🙂
While the term ‘game-changer’ is thrown around a lot, I think we can all agree this is the perfect use! 🙂
great changes, para troops w boarding shotguns are dreadfull
Great range chart, thanks!
Money will probably have me playing 2nd ed for a while ( I like to use the book for rule references), but CB does give me the felling that their new ed. is in fact an improvement over an allready very fine sytem.
I hope grenade won’t any longer land in you back when they scatter too much while thrown forward :/
Loving the kids this week.
The new weapon ranges seem to be a nice buff for my Haqqislam troops.
very well thought out changes, cant wait to try 3rd edition!
I start becoming impatient hehe!!
So simple even I could follow then
Cool info!
The 8″ blocks are much more streamlined, and will be much easier to teach. I’m loving the thought of a Croc Man (TO Camo) with Boarding shotgun sneaking up to the enemy’s backfield to take out the Sniper and HMG support… +6 vs -9. At BS 12, that’s 3s vs 18s!
I’ll give this range a try
poor my spitty
Creates some variety with the different range modifiers. ie A tactical reason to use a pistol at closer ranges versus a more powerful weapon without a bonus.
Looks very good to me. I love the new weapon ereranges. Now Domaru are less likely to fry themselves with their own e/m grenades 😉
Very happy with these changes. Each weapon type now has its advantageous role.
As with the Camo rules I don’t really have a reference point to comment on what I think of the rules relative to the old ones, but again hearing about the decision process and reasoning is always interesting.
Equilibrium and Playability…..Indeed…
Time to try this new weapon ranges on our tables ;).
In it to win it 🙂
Everyday things sound better and better!
Fantastic changes.really evens up there different weapons. The only one I am sad about is the loss of +3 for the spitfire at 0-8. But I can live with that. I can see myself taking the arigoto with boarding shotgun a lot more now.
Grenades are my favourite change. They are going to so much more useful now.
this is terrible! now my obvious choices are gone and I have to start making more nuanced decisions.
Just kidding. this looks amazing and I am so happy for a company that really seems dedicated to putting out a great game with great miniatures.
Really cant wait for August to be gone
Can’t believe Op: Icestorm week is nearly over D: Looking forward to Carlos and Killian battling it out on the tabletop.
More reasons to use the Fireteams and my Aragoto just got better. – Nice
Nice round up.
Oh dang! Yea, that chart will be really useful
This is a good change
These simplifications make a lot of sense – good to hear CB’s reasoning behind the changes too.
Always like seeing shotguns make sense in a game
Posthuman Mk.2 Hackers and Dasyus with BS are going to start seeing a lot more time in my lists. I love those shotgun changes.
Looking forward to see the second mission, i like how ranges work since they are very easy to understand for someone that never played the game before ( aka. me 😛 )
As long as my Hassassin Lasiq still gets her kills I’m all the happier for a change in ranges.
All sounds good
Oh man, Snipers are back in play, and light shotguns making my Ghulams dangerous. It’s a good day.
Shotguns all the way!
3rd edition is looking good so far
I like the changes and the fact that every weapon will now have its use depending on the circumstances. Good thinking, it will add even more depth to the game.
Printed this out already
Cool, this adds more variety to the armys
I was really hoping for more videos for Icestom Week. Hope we can see any changes to multi weapons and unit profiles before this is over.
I really like the changes to the ranges. I think this is a great step forward.
Oh and my inner Ghulam is squealing in delight 😀
The changes to the HMG I’m liking the most. In most games I’ve played they have been the dominant force so it’s great to see them given a more focussed role now.
What a great change !!!
I really like this modification and can’t wait to try it 😀
keeps getting better and better.
Ahh, organized range bands: Such a better idea!
Seems to me that the biggest change in N3 is a general clean up of things. Neatened Range bands, and rules timing so far. And I was pleased to hear that grenades are easier to throw at close range after, in my first demo game, I had one scatter behind me farther than it would have been possible to throw it forward.
Another great insight into 3rd edition, looking forward to it.
AP ammo at +6 for no SWC. : )
That really is a viable option to consider.
OMG finally HMG’s will get a debuff, they were kind of over powered
Ok, now this makes keeping track of weapon ranges easier to remember.
The boarding shotgun and HMG range modifier updates make more sense to me. It is a positive update.
Carlos, I love your tee-shirt, I just want the same !
Please just release the new rule book so that we can purchase it already………….
Looking better and better.
I’m liking these changes, they do make things more cinematic as well. Like the HMG guy dropping his gun to shoot a close enemy with a pistol.
The 3rd edition seems better with every news Carlos gives us.
I’m really looking forward to icestorm even more now. Not sure I can last until it comes out!
Have to get 3rd edition! Must have this boz…
nice video, good explanation
Glad to see the changes aren’t just for the sake of it but to make the game balanced and to retain it’s realistic mechanics. That Myrmidon CoC officer with boarding shotgun just got a lot deadlier!
This is one of those simplifications that makes the game better without taking anything away from the depth of the game. If anything, I think these changes will actually add a bit more depth. CB really is doing a fantastic job.
Kinky
woa the battle mat from MAS is great, also new rules till now seems cool too.
this changes definitely are for good, now you have standard bands and in this bands the weapons had some modifiers.
Nice changes.
B.
Simplified rules, yeah that’s a great plus. Who wants to go searching through a book every time you light up a target just to see how many dice/ what type of dice to throw? This is also really reflective of the different strengths and weaknesses of weapons. A big thumbs up.
It is a very good thing to bring in uses for multiple weapons instead of just hmg>everything.
Just pre-ordered my set. looking forward to getting started
I can’t wait to see what other changes are coming, everything is sounding really good.
I liked the insight at the beginning regarding testing the new rules. Change one rule at a time, while keeping all the others from the old edition, and see how it plays out.
Would love a chance at winning some Infinity minis!
Some interesting changes to the heavy weapons! I’m looking forward to trying these new weapon rules out! Thanks for posting this!
All these changes sound good, now to get my copy of operation icestorm!
Looks like it could change those “Matrix-Runs” (spending all your orders on one powerfull mini) a little. That is something that was too extreme for my taste…and didn´t look like fun.
I’m loving the new ranges
awesome sauce
Can’t wait for the 3rd ed!
Nice.
Looking forward to throwing more grenades 😀
Very interesting… I may try the Oniwaban again once N3 is official… Hidden Deployment, TO:Camo, Martial Arts 4, and Boarding Shotgun…. sneak up behind a heavy hitter or specialist and blast away… ideally getting some more units with the template.
This seems much better than last ed.
Drop troops with boarding shotguns for the win!
Nice chart for the gun ranges
Really liking the simplified list and range graphics and everything now in multiples of 8″ will make it easier to remember. As a new player really liking these videos as picking up some tactics and stuff to. Was hoping for a few more vids but enjoying what we have seen so far.
very interesting! i like hearing the discussion about the rules.
I’m still not sold on the shotguns of my Bolts, hope the costs might get down 1-2.
Great ! 3rd promises!
Keep these awesome videos rolling!
Anyone know where the table map is from? Looks sweet.
That +6 on the shotgun looks like it’ll make it pretty fearsome in the right situations
Looks like these changes should do a lot to make certain weapon choices more meaningful.
Interesting. It will take a while to absorb and assimilate the info.
I like the way Infinity generalize weapons, I think it will make things much easier to understand and flow smoothly..
It seems that the HMG will no longer be so godly on the battlefield, combine a Shotgun with the new camo rules and there is potential to completely ghost an enemy model!
And better still.
Looks awesome can’t wait to get my hands on that box!
So who else downloaded the weapon chart already?
Are there more weapons or does every faction have the same weapon choices?
I’m really lokking forward to this. After years of 40K, I finally found a perfect alternative!!!
Awesome cheat sheet
LoL. Interesting change to the weapon ranges. I imagine there’ll be lots of whining regardless.
OK move to a more simple rule. Always a good thing.
Really keen to run a few combi + LSG to see how versatile the new ranges make things.
just two words- love it!
I might be mistaken but… According to this chart… Spitfire downgrades to Molotok… So spitfire is no more a tiny HMG with combirrifle benefits! And molotok is no more similar to a spitfire as a rifle is to a combirrifle. Please we need to get the full table of weapons!
Great news for everyone. I’m really excited by this changes and can’t wait to get the full N3 rules.
All worth knowing – Keep the info coming guys!
WOW!
Those changes are going to shake things up a lot. Nice job CB in making the rules simpler and the game more tactically interesting.
Hmmm super tempting to try an all shotgun toting bad arse list now….
thanks for the download, will give those ranges ago, the boarding shotgun is beast.
Close range is the new in thing
Really looking forward to getting the Infinity Operation: Icestorm starter box, learning the game and getting other involved. Great work from Corvus Belli and Beasts of War! Awesome game and an awesome insight!
Like the chart, always easier to remember stuff when there’s a chart to look at
The chart looks easier to view. Doesn’t seem to have a lot of weapons though, no panzerfausts etc. hope they will be in the rules and we won’t have to wait until the new book proper
I have to ask…anyone know how that board is made….the surface looks fantastic! Is it a mat of some kind…or a DIY job….need to know!!!!!
Wohoo more Rulechanges.
nice changes
are these all the weapons of the game?
Love Infinity great models great game.
Awesome, i like the new weapon modifiers. Very interesting.
Overall I think this is a positive change that should allow for both a more specialized role for each model, allow for multiple different weapons load outs to become more viable, especially on fire teams, make pistols actually worth while, and change up terrain placement to a more interesting mix of partial fire lanes and close fire corridors. Should be interesting.
The magical wunderwaffe of dragon-slaying that the HMG was (seriously, the weapon had more uses than a swiss knife) being nerfed and rifles and combis getting a boost, not to mention the shotguns? Yes plz!
I hope light shotguns also get +6 range!
That is really a game changer. Shotguns now are going to be fielded much more and with better results. Grenades will land more precise where they were meant to be and as Carlos said serve well in FtF rolls. HMG are less the no brainers and though remaining effective can be overcomed with the right tactic using range and close quarters approach.
I look toward to try these new sets of rules. The new edition looks like to be more neat and streamlined than before. All for the best of the playability and the enjoyment. Anyway we need to look at the whole new rule set to get the full picture.
So an interesting coming up for the next months, I’m excited.
Ps: I apologize for misstyping and the like, I’m writing with the smartphones and that is reaaly annoying but by now I don’t have a laptop at hand ^^’
Just need to know how special ammunition will change
More Infinity please
Holy crap, the boarding shotgun rocks.
Changing HMG to less of a sniper weapon looks nice. Shotguns now seems quite awesome 🙂
I really like the looks of these new weapon ranges. HMG was pretty overpowerd.
I like their approach to improving the gameplay. Sounds a lot better than GW’s approach of beefing up whatever they’re working on and then going round in circles
Very good news ! Each weapon will be more efficient in a specific situation.
I look forward to play again with my akalis sikh commando and his boarding shotgun <3
And now I know I need a new flash player. Ah the information age.
Interesting choices to be made…
haha Carlos doesn’t know his own rules!!!!!
love the changes more and more
That’s sounds great!
Ten pages no just in Hell to collect a ticket.
I like the look of those modifiers
Some one made a little add on to the chart above, showing the second ed ranges with colored bars below the N3 ranges. Really helpful to see how these changes define the weapon roles now
These ranges IMO are a huge improvement. It gives units like the gecko a great place in the game, standing beside their long ranged cousins.
Liking the new changes – eager to see how the Santiago knights will fare now.
Interesting changes. Good ones I think. Especially the HMG and Sniperrifle. More differentiation seems sensible.
Wow, all those HMG-toting TAGs don’t want boarding shotgun infantry anywhere within 16″!
Cool!
Nice n organised ;0)
Very helpful
3rd is looking great
Grenades got the best upgrade IMO 🙂
Cheers for the PDF!
wonderful stuff
The table provided could be printed out for further reference…
Preordered my copy!
Its looking good
The shotgun rules sound spot on.
Weapons became more specialized. Good change IMHO…
Good that all linkmembers might have thier moment now.
Good to see that there needs to be a lot of consideration before choosing weapons now. Each has its good and bad points.
Running time: 13:37, very good!
Very easy to follow new 3rd edition rules great video
So happy about the changes to the boarding shotgun, making shotguns more . . . shotgunney
I wonder if the +6 at short range is for all shotguns, if so the Haqqislam ‘shotgun tax’ might be a massive bonus instead.
All changes are well balanced
This game is great!
Infinty content ftw!
Not a fan of snipers in general but I can see myself warming up to them in Infinity.
Hooray, shotguns are relevant now!
nice weapon chart esp with both cm and inches
More differentiation between weapons means finding the right tool for the right job at the right time. I love it!
Fascinating…I’ll be interested to see how this impacts gameplay. Thanks for the range chart!
Shotguns are looking more viable now, which is nice.
I would love to see more content with Killian
Love the purple gaming mat
Bring on 3rd addition!!!
I like the chart breakdown. I really appreciate that CB noticed that some weapons needed adjustments.
Liking the change to the shotgun a lot.
Loving how all the weapons are situational even just by their range increments. Everything has a place!
My spitfire Prowler get a bit of a nerf… not sure if that was needed but the HMG one definitely was!
Thanks for the info!
8″ get mutch more effective grenades.
I want to be every week infinity week
I wish every week could be infinity week.
It can be.
In your heart.
That shotgun buff is going to be great for my Haqqislam 🙂
I like the simplification of range bands. bodes well for the rest of the rules.
Kuang Shi with boarding shotguns! Yes please. Use the impetuous order to get up the table and make the most of the +6 range. Looking forward to seeing the changes in action.
Wow that is an interesting tweak to the weapons rules. I love how the shotgun is a way more tempting option and that the sniper rifle now wins out on range over the HMG! 🙂
More streamlined, I like it. Shotguns even better.
Looking good.
Shotguns!!!!
Absolutely love the new Nomad sculpts and can’t wait for my preorder to arrive. Excellent work CB!!
Looks like i need more shotguns.
More chart porn
wow
