Video Sponsors: Kings of War - Warmacnine
Welcome back folks! With Infinity Week 2013 coming to a close we'll be discussing the amazing artwork we've been seeing and there is even a nice surprise to look out for later on today.
As well as that we'll be talking Warmachine: Tactics which is heading to Kickstarter on July 10th and Q-Con was last weekend so we'll be discussing the experiences from those few days of awesome gaming and overall hilarity.
Stu has also thrown the gauntlet down for a his Journeyman League here at Tabletop Nation which should be plenty of fun! The link to that is below.
There is also a shout out for those of you wanting to write articles and news for Beasts of War. If you think you have what it takes then get in contact! As an example check out Lee Trayler's work which featured throughout the Eldar Codex Breakdown week...
And the competitions don't stop there. We're also giving away an awesome Spartacus board game prize alongside the expansions too!

Oh man, I’m with you Stu. A couple isn’t two when used to refer to a unit of distance or time or it would make liars of us all 😉
I have this conversation with my wife an awful lot lol
Your powers are weak old man… I heard the click, but no day glow pictures!
lol well i dont see you posting them here… 😛
I love you Justin, that costume was awesome!!!
Congrats on the engagement mate!
Can you do articles on conversions? How to, what you like to do and what you guys have done would be good. I always like seeing new creations, so seeing what others are doing would be a bonus!
Nothing about the Apocalypse or Iyanden – hmmm……
I’ve posted along these lines elsewhere but it’s worth repeating and expanding here.
Going forward you are extremely unlikely to see entire themed ‘Weeks’ for anything GW release. It will get coverage, sure, and there are areas where it can be improved but those wanting a return of the ‘Nid Week’ style of 40k coverage will have to accept that in the current climate it is impossible to deliver. Not a case of lack of will or excitement, just too many barriers in the way of the guys at BoW.
The odd article series for sure, Eldar got quite a bit of attention recently but it wasn’t a ‘week’. The more the community pitches in articles etc the more it will enrich the limited (but quality) coverage that BoW will produce. Talking about the Iyanden supplement is unlikely, but talking about the move to more supplements at £30 a pop is certainly a talking point.
So 2013 is unlikely to bring an Apocalypse week, No Lizardmen week, maybe a Blood Bowl/Dreadball/other manufacturer sport game week, No Space Marines week, No Dwarves week, No Hobbit week etc… (that list of weeks is a purely hypothetical list and should in no way be cobnstrued as the probable release schedule from Games Workshop for 2013).
If you only come to BoW for that type of coverage, those days are over. Beyond BoW (or almost anyone else’s) control to deliver.
If you like wargames and your church is a little broader than Games Workshop then you are in for a real treat with BoW because I have never met a bunch more dedicated and enthusiastic in delivering high quality content for the gaming community and having been privileged to work with them on occasion as a guest on the odd video, I can really appreciate the long hours (Justin is usually putting in at least sixty hour weeks, no word of a lie) and hard graft they put in.
Infinity week is a good example of what they want to deliver with the involvement of the manufacturers. They have provided exclusive and detailed videos, special offers, free wallpapers and scenery giveaways, live chat with the developers and a whole host of extra content.
You will not see that for a game produced by Games Workshop ever again unless there is a seismic shift in GW’s engagement with BoW specifically and the community more generally. No point in complaining, just share your regret at the facts and embrace the brave new world of a broader church.
C&Ds bombardment we take it?
You can really see the difference when you see how other companies actually like to engage with the fan base
love seeing GW doing this to themselves …
I am starting a journeyman league tomorrow at the carlisle wargames club, should be fun
if only the convergance had came in a day earlier… 🙂
Bow Justin
I should win the Spartacus Expansion in exchange for use of that photo of Justin I took lol Glad you like that photo though dude….or are those 2 the only ones taken of you? Cos I don’t think I’ve ever seen any others!
Félicitations Justin !!!
That was a great Weekender guys 😀
Jumping on what you said about cultural gaming difference, I think it would be interesting to compare the ways people play.
For article ideas, how about a review/discussion of up and coming board/card games on kickstarter? There’s loads of interesting stuff there.
I was sad to see the galleon in the Trip get glassed in. Health and Safety gone mad!
Congratulations Justin 🙂
You should take Justin to the Trip to Jerusalem for his stag night. Dress him up as a Crusader get him pissed and put him on a plane to Israel……
Congrats J. Great news.
I F’ing love that idea!!!!
@stuart Crusaders wore assless chaps too, right?
oh for the love of god… well atleast im not ending the night chained to a goat… 😛
Chained into a goat more like 😉
Oh but they have goats in Israel…
Assless chainmail chaps, sure.
Great idea :3
– Natalie
I’d love to see some humorous little articles like that guy used to do in white dwarf (Mike Walken, was it?), Not necessarily about warhammer.
Great show guys.
2 articles, video’s I would like to see.
Interview/ reviews on outstanding sculptors, They are a large part of the hobby, but often work in the background without people always knowing who they are or what they are working on.
The other is tips on things like. liquid effects and other techniques, ie, dripping blood, simple water effects, etc
Congrats Justin, may all your troubles be wee ones….
moondee29 from youtube here. Ideas for articles – House Rules Around The Globe/The World. Idea is to cover a particular dubious/problematic aspect/rule of a particular game AND collect (and share) stories from different small and large gamestores/gaming clubs from all around the world/globe. These stories could cover a variety, from the most to the least, of practical/logical/funniest/craziest/stupid house rules. The articles apart from introducing an “international” flavor, would cover the reasons, history, use, practicality, etc of the house rules and other peculiar stories associated with those in that particular club.
These articles could maybe help some other places to streamline their gameplay in a game covered or could just entertain (based on the house rules covered). I would guess those articles could attract some amusing stories and might connect people and gaming clubs. Well, in addition, you could ask those clubs to share some pictures or something and could “plug” them in a way, i guess. Well, there are ways to experiment and/or modify the articles to suit various formats, etc.
I second manpug’s idea, articles on conversions would be great to see, as there are people (like myself) who focus their entire hobby around converting and even scratch building models.
when we will get more dreadball academy, i really want the game but until i can get it i am watching these to keep me going
it got a little held up, i’ll have it go live on monday, not counting for any major changes to the plans.
Infinity week was great fun. Can’t wait for the special video!
Some Ideas for Articles. Def more articles like the recent ones on the history of the Eldar, more Fluff history and not just 40k but all games, it could be called something like Wargaming Lore. Articles on the History of the hobby and how companys, mini lines and rules have grown over the years and where they got their start. More Tactics videos or articles, i’m not saying cheese but legit tactics and list building strategies. You could do stuff on fan made stuff and rules that others could use to add a extra dimension to their games. More articles from the hobby side other than just painting but terrain and board building conversion work you could tie in some of the fan made articles with this, like building a special terrain peice and than some optional rules to use it in game to help inspire people to go above and beyond just whats in the books.
Really fun to watch fellas, made up for last week 🙂
Congrats Justin, I would love articles about how to been a gamer while rising a child, wich is pretty hard…
B.
I would love to see some sculpting and conversion guides
Bah wished I lived near Tabletop Nation.
My, my. A shout-out and praise in the Weekender. I shall get ideas above my station.
omg i won a prize lovely
I know, right?
A couple (lol) ideas for articles:
A series on finding and rating various gamestores around the world. Sort of like a “diners, drive-ins, and dives” but for wargame stores. Have people go in and rate the store on things like selection, gaming tables, friendliness and willinginess of the staff to go and greet new customers, and the general atmosphere of the store.
a ‘Forum Highlights’ series that grabs some of the best threads, tutorials, and what have you from your own BoW forum. While it sounds kind of lazy, I think it’ll give a great amount of exposure to the best posts, which are things some people might not see otherwise.
Maybe a series on the more obscure ways to appreciate your favorite wargame series? I doubt anyone does too many reviews or articles on the 40k novels, as an example.
Congrats Justin. As for article, I know there’s already a few like that, but video of tips on how to get into a game are something I like.
Gratz, Justin. I hope Kingdom Death releases soon, their minis are outstanding looking.
I would like to c more articles about the smaller up and coming games like Bolt action,
Not much point in mentioning it as they seem popular with most of us but themed weeks are what I look foward to most on BoW
I would like to see more bat reps as well.
How about some more reports from shows or some tournaments and events from around the country.
I like historical games and there seems to be a growing interest, I may be wrong but I’m sure there are more rule sets and minis now than ever. So I’d like to see your historical content expanded a bit.
Congratulations again to Justin
Well done to Romain and John any chance we can see their entries.
How about a BoW TTN road trip bringing new games to the oppressed GW masses
Congats there Justin and cheers for the prize there chaps :). I have an idea for the historical end of the market by having an unboxing for them too and I an great for an article for A Very British Civil War too
Love to see articles on alternative game systems/rules.
Congratulations Justin. I could make a remark about wanting someone with a tight ring, but that would be crude.
idea for something different 20mm ww2 miniatures and rules
not many people cover this scale yet there are loads and loads of minis and rules for this scale
and a huge following.
just a thought 🙂
Congrats and keep up the great work!
congratulations on your engagement Justin.
Congrats on the engagement mate!
as for videos or articles…..Firestorm Armada
Great episode to top a great week! And congratulations to Justin. Lost the beard and gained a wife. More than fair trade.
Random thought here about an article – what about an evolution chart of how gaming has progressed? What influenced a particular game, what level of interaction (skirmish, army, etc)
I’m not setting myself up for this, I simply wouldn’t have the time to do it justice! (Well, you might get something next year if I started now)
I was just thinking on the ‘opening’ Warren was discussing and no mention of BoW Sam… only Ben
What has happened to Sam, or have I missed something quite blatant?
Sorry I should have mentioned that Sam is on a teaching trip in China for a couple of months.
He has articles scheduled while he’s away 🙂
And yes we’re missing him already!
In fact Sam posted on earlier today! And a good one it was too discussing what *should* be a game but isn’t (yet!)
I’d love to see content on terrain making, especially on a budget with a few basic purchases then adding, recycled materials and bitz box type content.
I agree with Raybans, I was just thinking yesterday when I was eyeing a few pictures of Alpha Simien by quickworthy, that the sculptors are a complete unknow to me and it seemed weird because they are verry much to me like comic book artists and its weird that I know nothing about them. Painters and painting companies yeahbut absolue ero about sculptors apart from the Perrys. Do an article or even better a video about that.
http://www.beastsofwar.com/groups/painting/forum/topic/dayglow-pigments-for-glow-effects/
Hey, I am totally responsible! Compared to the wife… And the BoW crew should know that, they have met her.
Congrats Justin
I wonder if there is a chance that you guys will take a look at “by Fire & Sword” ( several weeks ago you had a news about their kickstarter ), a game placed in part of Europe (and time) that is quite unusual in this hobby
Warren and James mentioned another Dreadball Academy video, is it not yet published to the site as it doesn’t seem to be with the other Dreadball stuff in the Board Games section amd certainly not on the front screen?
For article ideas- as a disabled gamer I would like to read (or perhaps write) about techniques and ideas for painting, when the normal methods aren’t applicable.
A free board game prize might entice me 😉
Congratulations Justin. Guess that means Warren will need someone else to oil him up now…
It’s great to see BoW reaching out into the community for article writers.
I would like to see some “Gaming in the Gaps” for other games. As a FoW fan, the FOW-FTW videos are brilliant, but maybe some more gametypes will be good.
Also, conversions and terrain making would be good.
First, Congratulations Justin!
Second, because nobody has asked it, what dreadball academy uploaded this week?
Sure I asked that question 3 comments above this one 😛 but nice to see that great minds think alike or is that fools never differ……..
Congratulations to Justin! 🙂
Areas I’d like to see articles:
1. Reviews on terrain kits. There’s a bunch of manufacturers selling plastic and/or wood (cnc) terrain. Some of it is just amazing, it would be great to have videos on taking the kits, and turning them into usable terrain (a bit of painting, construction, filling holes, texturing etc).
2. Reviews/how to’s on conversion, and conversion kits. There’s lots of kits out there that can add life and variety to some of the bigger companies’ games. It would be great to see some put to the test. Are they the right scale, do they look good and mesh with the setting, things like that. Review maxmini, puppetswar, etc. Obviously that might not work if it runs afoul of companies you want to have good working relationships with.
3. I’d love to see some love for some of the “forgotten” armies of 40k and fantasy. How do I make/use a chaos dwarf army? Squats? Mechanicum? Arbites? Evil/renegade guard?
😉
Congratulations Justin!
Here are some articles that I’d like to see:
A write-up of 7TV – I discovered it at Salute & loved it! It’s silly fun & all about the cult TV fluff…
An exploration of how to introduce your favourite characters from film & TV into standard wargames: Captain America in Flames of War, Judge Dredd vs Batman in Infinity, Dr. Who (& Captain Jack & River Song) in just about anything… Mini conversion (and where to find “not-” minis could be a series of articles in itself!)
I’d be happy to write the first article myself, but I don’t know enough about games mechanics to do the second…
(do I now have to say something if I want a prize)
Great video as always.
Good stuff and congrats Justin!
Congratulations Justin, last time I went to a conference all I got was a t-shirt, you came back with a woman. Your blagging abilities are legendary.
On a related note I thought that all gamers were sad lonely people who who shunned interaction with members of the opposite sex. Maybe it is just me.
Congratulations Justin.
I would like to see articles about master a particular aspect of a game
Congrats Justin.
For videos, it could be more games playthrough like justins spartacus video, that was brillant.
And and for articles…. It would be fantastic to Reading more about the amazing lore there are behind Many of the games … How history as evolved the games (like the eldar articles) but most background and epic tales from the lore
Keep up the good work …
Congrats, Justin!
If anyone’s interested in RPG articles, I could maybe do a series expanding on my shownotes for this episode of our podcast.
http://www.thepodcasthost.com/dicingwithdesign/2013/02/24/episode-5-what-do-we-need-a-gm-for/
It’s about the manifold roles the GM takes on, but also how with some well-designed rules, players can take some or all of these roles on themselves.
I read it as “Justin gets enraged”, so I’m kind of dissapointed but also very happy for him! Congrats man! Metric FTW!
Why didn’t I get the Slenderman? 🙁
Excited you are opening up to submissions. Got more than a few ideas for content. Will see what i can come up with over the next few weeks 😉
ran a journeyman when i got into hordes with my everblight and in October my mighty khador are going to take to the table in their first outing for our next journeyman so i know all the guys at tabletop nation will enjoy the hell out of it!
For article ideas i’d love to see more articles for upcoming games on indiegogo or kickstarter and equivalents and if i have permission from the creator may send in an article on a game being made in the valleys of south wales… No quarter shall be given that day me hearties 😉
Congratulations Justin. 🙂
Can we have a Kings of War game ?
Darryl and Andy would be great.
Topics:
Terrain making
Aspects of the hobby that you do not like or annoy you that you wish companies would improve on or change.
While we are wish listing articles we’d like to see, can we have articles on possessing friends and making gaming clubs disappear?
I’m just kidding, but I think that part of the call out for article ideas was mixed with the call out for article writers. I’m not saying shut the heck up everyone and get writing, it’s awesome that so many ideas are getting put on the table, so to speak, but the BoW team are busy guys. If you have your niche in wargaming that may not get explored a lot, go ahead and share it. Yeah, you might be the only one interested, but in sharing you may gather fellow enthusiasts. Again, I’m not trying to stem the flow of ideas, and I mean no offence to anyone, but the BoW can’t do all this themselves.
