Games Workshop introduced a big new set of releases for the Leagues of Votann, Warhammer 40,000's newest faction for their Sci-Fi wargame. They launched with a smattering of units, vehicles and characters and now see their second wave of releases, which give the Leagues much more firepower and importantly, options for army building.

Buri Aegnirssen - Warhammer 40000

Buri Aegnirssen // Warhammer 40,000

Buri is a brand new character who comes from the Emberg-Aegnir Bloc. He is known as the Thrice-Devoured because he was amongst his kin devoured by Hive Fleet Leviathan. Well, that was before they fought their way out of an alien stomach. He now seeks to fight on despite the sorrow and bitterness, battling alongside other Leagues.

You'll note that Buri has been somewhat enhanced with cybernetics and now wears the head of a slain Tyranid on his back, a way to remember his loss but also to sow fear amongst the enemy.

More characters are also on the way for the Leagues like the Arkanyst Evaluator.

Arkanyst Evaluator // Warhammer 40,000

The Arkanyst Evaluator is something of a mad scientist but also a deadly gunner should the need arise. The Evaluators are tasked with testing new technology for the Leagues and is here armed with the transmatter inverter, which rips you apart at the cellular level.

The Ironkin are not to be left out either, as there is also the first new character for these machine-based allies of the Leagues.

Memnyr Strategist - Warhammer 40000

Memnyr Strategist // Warhammer 40,000

The Memnyr Strategist excels when leading a unit of Steeljacks (more on them later). They help by multiplying their cognitive abilities, which means that the unit can then fire Overwatch and use Heroic Intervention for free each battle round. Nice.

New Units & Vehicles

Sticking with the Ironkin, these Steeljacks are the unit that the Memnyr works well with. Other Ironkin that we've seen previously have taken a more supporting role. The Steeljacks are, front and centre, all about getting stuck into combat.

Steeljacks can either be designed to take on the enemy at range or up close and personal in combat. You can give them bolters and concussion gauntlets/plasma swords, or you can load them out with heavy volkanite disintegrators.

Taking the classic Mole Mortars of the Squats as inspiration, the Leagues of Votann can also introduce the Cthonian Earthshaker into the mix.

Kitted out with a mixture of different shells, these contraptions fire their payload deep underground, delivering a surprising and explosive gift to the enemy when they least expect it.

Last but not least, we have a new vehicle kit which can be built in two different configurations. The Kapricus can be built as the Defender or the Carrier depending on what battlefield role you want it to undertake.

The transport acts well alongside the Yaegirs, delivering them into key positions on the battlefield. Alongside the rest of the vehicles for the Leagues of Votann, this means that your force is quite mobile and can get to objectives in style.

New Combat Patrol

With a new wave of miniatures coming out and a new Codex for the 10th Edition of Warhammer 40,000, we also get a new Combat Patrol.

This Combat Patrol, Bane-slayer's Bulwark, is led by an Einhyr Champion who leads five Einhyr Hearthguard. You then get three Brokhyr Thunderkyn and ten Hearthkyn Warriors who cap things off.

All of these new Leagues of Votann miniatures don't tip me over the edge when it comes to buying some Space Dwarves. I quite like the basic troops and some of the characters for the Leagues but I'm not a fan of their more elite units and the amount of vehicles you'll end up having to run.

Do you like the new Leagues of Votann miniatures?
