Haven’t watched the video yet but Justin in a red shirt …. sounds about right …. poor Justin
Loving these earlier Weekender uploads. Happy Sunday All!
Happy Sunday!!!11!!!!one!!!!
A happy Sunday to you all & a happy Fathers day (in the UK) to all gaming Dad’s out there.
Really enjoying the show.
There are so many options with 3D Printing that would allow for scaling up and down. 15mm for travel and then you could have larger also for home or the club.
@warzan it is awesome that the whole family is enjoying a rpg together. The great thing is there are some excellent games as you children age so that you can keep the topics in their age group. You obviously did something right with all those little games to get them hooked for the long haul.
Happy Sunday
Happy Sunday fellow geeks 😉
Happy Sunday, make it so!
Happy Sunday…!
Happy Sunday
Warren’s shirt needs to be torn, exposing his manly chest. Watchout for the Gorn!
@warzan I´ll be a young dude, A LARP Friend of mine is close to 60yo 😉 You´ll never to old to LARP
Captain Warzan and your crew, well done good job.
Just a quick idea for 15mm D&D dungeon. Using Loyd’s foam Technic , 2in thick foam and pluck away. 2 feet by 2 feet squares foam is $10.00 each. Make the dungeon modal and 3D.
I have been playing with the idea for 28 mm but the foam is just to cost prohibitive, but the idea of going 15mm makes it work. I am stating the project up again thanks for bring the 15mm model range to my attention.
Since you have a 3d printed, Printable Scenery has dungeon tiles that you can scale down for 15mm
I watched chunks of the Hobby Nights, and thought at the time I’d much prefer just seeing yous sat round a table, painting, and shooting the sh*t, than the more structured and themed live show that it was.
Happy Sunday everyone.
Having watched the hand gestures of the Commodore in the background who is monitoring your simulation I am not sure you will make it into Star Fleet Academy especially at the end around 1:39 onwards 😀
I think the rebalance of the Hoby Night sounds perfect. I currently have to save it to the weekend but the juggle around works for me and the content being you guys hobbying for yourselves I think is how it should be done.
I imagine there are any number of projects you all have which would give a wide and diverse amount of content and at the same time continue the projects you guys never have the time for,
I like the idea of the new SM Chapter segment but would like to see i done over a number of Hobby Night episodes allowing us to bring forth what we have come up in stages rather everything at once so to speak. It would almost make it a ‘Tale of Gamers’ which I am a huge fan of.
Have a great week everyone.
this is the next evolution for bridge simulator (it’s a VR multi-player)

Happy sunday ! @warren I as father of 5 yars old girl would love to see game play or at least a in depts review of your game and adventures, ( i have lack of imagination but would love to play that game with my family) cheers. weekender should be at least 90 min long you cant paint miniature in 45 minutes. 😀
As an old fart of a gamer ( with no kids ), i initially scoffed at the MLPRPG ( but the moment passed ), but it ( and any others like it ) are an ideal way to sit down with your children and immerse them in a beautiful world just chock full of fun.
The 15mm Dungeon stuff is looking fantastic, as the guys mention, it just increases the amount of real estate to explore and fight over and is easily transportable.
Congrats to all those who won their Golden Buttons, very well deserved.
LARPing is an aspect of our hobby i have yet to try, but i have found myself looking into some research about it. The Astral Knights being restored BoW style is something i look forward to and well deserved after the sacrifice to stop the World Engine.
Having a Hobby Night Live based around BoW personal projects is a great idea and something i would love to see 😀 , go for it. As far as that Bridge Simulator goes, is it there every year or was that more of a one off ? Because the Trekky in me REALLY wants to man the Weapons Station 😀 .
I can’t believe @dignity wanted to go big game hunting for the Space Whale 🙁 , they are a peaceful species and should be preserved, not hunted for sport. That whole experience looked like a great laugh and i am very jealous.
On 15mm dungeons… or 15mm in general. A minor correction @warzan: 15mm doesn’t double the playing area, it quadruples the playing area.
The weekenders cant last 45 minutes. How can I paint for 12 hours a day with 45 minutes of support???
Do you guys know that Artimus is just a piece of software and you can buy it very cheap and run it on any 5-6 PC? I’d image you already have more than that. I had it running in my living room a few years ago before the missions were fully implimented. We got destroyed by the Crystalline Entity a few times and set up a starship duel by building a second bridge in another room.
I only like 15mm for large scale war gaming. The loss of the use of beautifully high detailed miniatures makes this a no go for me. I’ve accumulated a large collection of gorgeous minis and the immersion factor they provide for dungeon romps are irreplaceable.
I hear you on the beautiful miniatures, though i’ve been persuaded to think about 15mm by the potential for that scale by the miniatures for the coming ‘Joan Of Arc’ game.
Should have read:

Yes , but Ben was saying its mostly due to the portability factor of 15mm that he has started using them.
I assume he will still rpg with 28’s when he can.
I’m aiming to try and use 15mm for the bulk of things going forward although I really love the idea of having a host of fantastic 28mm models to use.
The new WizKids stuff, if it becomes accessible without going out of stock quickly is where I want to test things first and then see what the 15mm collection is like with a Torchbearer campaign.
go whisper.
I do like the idea of the friend mechanic.
15mm for RPG’s is a interesting one. it’s all about adding atmosphere and if you did it right a 15mm portable dungeon could be fantastic.
personally, I like beautiful, so 32-35 mm would always be my preference. pen and paper on the road but if you want the full experience then i’m hosting.
it’s definitely something i’d like to own though and a good excuse to back joan of arc.
joan of ach. it would be stunning for Shadows of Esteren, just saying.
you would certainly have to get creative with some aspects because it’s just not as well catered for but you have got me thinking.
very clever idea Ben and well done Warren for throwing Joan of arc into the mix. I probably wouldn’t have bought the idea without being reminded of how good 15mm is starting to look.
I like the idea of no theme for hobby night live. Be more interesting seeing the bow crew working on their own projects.
On New Hobby Night Live, I think your plan sounds more interesting to me than the current one. There’s nothing wrong with the old format, but I like the sound of this one more.
Plus I’ll get to hobby 😀
And if it means anything I wouldn’t necessarily mind a shit show. Just saying. Judging by the quality of presenters you could argue it’s always been a shit show. : )
The bridge simulator looked fun.
However, given BoW increased interest in board games including a new dedicated board game reviewer and the fact you guys seem to like many things WWII, you should all get together and play a game of Captain Sonar. This is a WWII Submarine simulator that is played in real time 4 v 4 across the table from each other. It would roll in all the things you guys like. Cool games, WWII and interactive gaming.
Talking about Dungeons today (15mm is cool but probably too late for most, who have 28mm pieces.) Dwarvenforge has their dungeon kickstarter probably hitting 1 mil by the end of the day. Dungeons are so much fun.
If one is deciding between 15mm and 25mm, 28mm, or 32mm for roleplaying, or even for dungeon crawling, it might be worth considering mixing the scales up. I haven’t tried it but what i’m envisaging is using 15mm for the parts of the game that involve a bigger area, that is those parts of the game that largely involve moving around a ‘map’, and then using the larger scale miniatures ( and furniture, etc ) for those encounters that require a little more ‘detail’, be that aesthetically or practically. I’m not sure how this would effect the encumbrance limit of the adventurer carrying this stuff about. I could see it resulting in a higher or lower ‘total items encumbrance’ value, depending on what mix of items one decides to use. ( I personally would opt to conduct my gaming from the leisure of my own humble abode. )
Happy Sunday
For dungeons I use 11×17 graph paper that is in non photo blue ink with 8 to 10 squares per inch. Draw out the dungeon om the sheets then lay them out a sheet at a time as they move through the dungeon that way if it is a larger dungeon they only see parts if it at a time.

I went to a LARP skirmish battle in Norin Ireland – it was on National Trust land – and the opposing forces parted to let a lady walking her dogs get by 🙂
I poked my head up from behind my shield – smiled and said – ‘Good Morning’ in my politest North Down accent…
Mmm, I must say, as a social thing, hobby night live is entertaining, but to get some detailed hobbying actually done, I much prefered the Hobby Lab series format. Dont get me wrong, hobby night live is fun, but it jumps all over the place a bit for my liking, if you are actually trying to follow the build! And in that regard, hobby lab is far superior. Basically I’m a miserable sod that prefers my own company and I prefer hobby lab because its a clear and precise a set of instructions to follow as opposed to the madness (but still fun madness) that is hobby night live. I mean to this day, I’m still watching old hobby lab videos from 3/4 years ago because they are a pleasure to watch, the production values are great, and its a polished product from start to finish.
Oooo and I politely ask for Hobby Lab: Creating City Roads & Blocks Part 3… It has been 1108 days since part 2 😛
I’m torn.. I like the VR as well. Combine both would be best, with the VR bridge a copy of the real bridge.
I like the idea for the new Hobby Night Live, as what I appreciate most is to see what others are doing and having some company when I am painting myself. So, for me it would be great and something I would try to tune in to.
Would it be an idea to drop hobbynight to the 3 hours witth an hour catch up on sat or sun ?
Oh and Justin should have been Mr. Sock
Then Warren could have said ‘Darn you Mr Sock’.
Sorry I’ll get my coat.
is @warzan turning into Captain Ahab? great show folks.
Happy sunday!
@warzan, Loved this XLBS this week. Is there any plans to cover 15mm with Sci Fi or Fantasy on beasts of war.
“Nobody back at Fleet Command needs to know about that.”
@warzan we now have a Pony (pegasus) with dreadlocks and wearing a gold chain …
I did hear from well informed sources that only D&D’s latest version, have outsold My Little Pony in the RPG space this year.
Looking forward to the Blood and Plunder week, I had the chance to talk to a few of them but not Mike at Origins – it moved to the front of the painting queue. With my Infinity and Dropzone stuff
‘Get us to Homebase for repairs’ 🙂

I participated in a Kickstarter a while ago called Maze Scale – Games In My Pocket. Im not sure if they are 15 mm or less, but as the title suggests they are small enough to pocket. There was some cute small terrain that came with it too eg, chests, bookshelves, tombs, desks, chairs etc. (also they do a sci/fi selection too) It should be arriving soon, if I ever work out how to upload pic’s I post a picture of it.
“See if the have a Gin & Tonic”
Wiser words have not left a captains mouth! That’s the attitude 😀
I think you guys should try all kinds of various ‘Hobby Night Live’ versions. Play around with it. See what works and what doesn’t. Personally I’d love a cam attached to John as he takes of parts from the sprue, clean it up and put it together. Would really like to see that entire process ‘live’. And I would love to just sit and hobby with you guys as you actually hobby , even if it’s ‘through the internet’ 😀
Thanks for another awesome weekender.
I think I’m just too attached to the average scales to go to 15mm for dungeon crawling… but I can see the logic behind it.
No theme to HNL would be quite interesting, it reminds me of hobby sessions I used to have… talking crap, doing hobby…
Having Hobby Night Live on a Friday would be perfect. That way I could watch the whole show without having to worry about getting up early for work the next morning.
A more casual format with each of you (and us) working on something different should still be plenty interesting. Justin can paint mini’s, Lloyd can build rocks, Warren can build lists and John can just do tank gibberish to his heart’s content.
The ship simulator looked brilliant. The guys were really getting into the Warzan level of humour. The “they’re coming on our position.” followed immediately by a casual “Don’t worry, we’ll clean that up later.” almost had me inhaling my tea. 😀
On a side note: the VR experience is multiplayer. So you will still get the same level of communication, although your team mates and the environment are also virtualized.
I really like the themed HNLs, but the new format sounds like it could be interesting. What about doing this new format for the most part, but doing, say, one themed HNL a quarter? Every 3 months doing a themed one could give the best of both worlds.
If we’re talking about the big LARP group in the UK, that would be Lorien Trust. Empire is a big group but the Lorien Trust is an order of magnitude bigger again. That’s not to say one is better than the other, they’re both different and offer a different experience despite both being fantasy worlds. They both cater for children and families.
As for D&D at 15mm it’s not something I have ever considered for 3 reasons.
1) 28mm-32mm is my preferred miniatures scale for painting and that’s important to me. That scale is also perfect for the skirmish level game which is essentially the same kind of scope as an RPG encounter
2) 15mm isn’t particularly well supported in terms of fantasy RPG miniatures and scenery pieces, especially when you compare it to 28mm. This affects the choices of miniatures you can get and of course maps and tiles – in the case of the latter you would effectively have to print your own or continue to use the standard 1″ grid. This either means that you do work at home to produce your own map tiles or you don’t save any space
3) The amount of space that you save by downsizing to 15mm is negligible at best. Most RPG dungeons are far too big to be laid out in their entirety on the table. What generally happens is that players will have a paper copy of the map (or will create one as they explore the dungeon). Only when the players are involved in a combat encounter will a map be laid out including only immediate area that they are in, usually less than 2′ x 2′
So all in all, for me the switch to 15mm causes more incoveniences and offers very little in return when compared to 28mm.
It’s funny that you were talking about doing a LARP and then you show the BOW crew doing a
Star Trek LARP. I don’t think you realized you were Live Action Role Playing.
@brennon, check out pendraken’s models… it’s 10mm, but they sell whole dungeons (walls etc) it’s been a while since I looked at it but was an interesting few sets.
One of the advantages to owning a 3D printer! 15mm Dungeon crawling would be great. I have all sorts of files I can print in 28mm and they will scale down nicely to 15mm. I should do some experimentation as this is something I can see myself getting into.
Hobby Morning Live!
I love the idea of Hobby Night Live on a Friday with ad-hoc format, what time GMT would be kick off assuming a 3 -4 hour session? Being GMT +10 sucks donkey balls but its achievable.
I love the new idéa on having hobby night live on Fridays and that we will see more of your hobby projects! Plus that we still would have the weekender show! <3 Love watching the weekender on saturday morning and eating breakfast! 😀
Ahhhhh yes, Artemis!
We have been playing that sim for several years now. We have played a few times with two ships in the game, but have yet to get enough people together for more than that.
I’m loving the consoles that they have built. We have played with touchscreen computers as well as our IPads.
Oh, and we use our 60″ TV as the main screen and set the most comfy chair in the house in the center of the room for the Capt. No standing about for our Capt. lol
Ermmmmm….did I mishear @16.40 about a pony called horrid ****** Henry or did you lads forget to add a bleep in!? Call the Internet police! :op
