Khador The Butcher | What’s In The Box
June 20, 2012 by beerogre
Bigger and Badder than the biggest bad thing in the Iron Kingdoms... the Butcher is a monstrous presence on the battlefield, capable of tearing a heavy warjack apart single-handed!
Let’s hear what Andy has to say about one of Khador’s most feared warcasters...

That is one amazing sculpt… What a sexy figure ! Dynamic yet heavy, brutal-looking yet detailed, looking bearishly primitive yet steam-punk-sophisticated… It’s a huge improvement on the older sculpt.
I hadn’t heard about it, and now I’m definitely adding it to the top of my unpainted pewter hill !
He has a 10″ threat range on his charge doesn’t he? 5 + 3 + 2 = 10? Or am I wrong perhaps? Anyway… yea he is a monster… I think the 17 DEF part is a bit over the top for this guy. Not many other Warcasters can get this much DEF and he is supposed to be a high ARM kinda caster.
Yeah… I must’ve been counting his SPD as 4… that’s what happens when you’re up late filming!
You see the things I do to keep you all happy!!! 😉
BoW Andy
Perhaps I was including the -1 SPD penalty for Iron Flesh… but then he couldn’t charge at all… you can’t with a penalty to SPD.
Who knows… certainly not me! 😉

Great review nonetheless 😀
This was the guy I was going to replace Sorsha with. I was looking for a bald Warcaster, as I am bald and like the model on the table to represent me. I think I will get the Butcher and the Manhunter for my Khador army.
I don’t play warmachine but I might get this guy just to paint.
Also you all need to do Hordes videos the same way you do these warmachine videos. Actually you should try to do all videos like this I think.
I have the Hordes starter sets ready to go… I just need to find the time in the shedule! 😀

It’s funny you mentioned it, Andy, because I replaced Sorsha with the Butcher and never looked back.
He’s a little dangerous to play, only because he’s such a melee monster.
the temptation is to always charge him in to destroy. it’s what he was built to do.
but he doesn’t have thresher or anything that would help him clear out a mob of infantry, so you gotta pick your targets or he’ll get isolated, tied up and maybe overwhelmed, even with 18 arm.
I usually use him to scrap light warjacks, solos, or elite infantry. If you run him with focus efficient ‘jacks, he can usually have enough focus on himself to buy extra attacks if need be, and/or boost the damage of his extra attacks. chances are you wont need to.
he’s weak against armies that can block line of sight at will (Menoth sayeth: no LOS, no charge) and against shooty armies. he has no cool concealment spells like sorsha. i try and screen him with his jacks when i can, but its hard. Man o war are cool for that, since they’re medium base. gotta buy more of those buggers. 🙂
You sound so excited… let me guess, you use him yourself? 🙂
I’ll have to get my regular opponent to field this guy next game, see what I’m up against lol. I’ve faced Sorsha and the big Caster that has the ‘Jack body/armour, but not this guy. At least now I’ve seen a little about him. Love the videos keep ’em coming!!!!
“and the big Caster that has the ‘Jack body/armour,”
Kommander Alexander Karchev is the name you are looking for.
I’ve never really looked into warmachine before seeing these videos, but your obvious passion for the game along with these interesting and informative examinations of the models has me looking into a Khador Battlegroup and maybe the core rulebook for Christmas.
Keep up the awesome work!
Ah Orsus, you will forever have a place in my collection.
Orsus would easily be my most played Warcaster/Warlock, with only Baldur and Irusk coming close. I must admit, at first I would cram in him down the opponents throat at the earliest opportunity. While the shock of this will work at first, the first time you opponent learns a few basic stalling tricks you are done for.
As insanely smashy as Orsus is, he is actually an impressive support warcaster. The only spell of little use is Obliteration, while it has mad hitting power it is hobbled by a very high casting cost and Orsus’ own FOC6.
Contrary to what Andy mentioned in the video, the spell Fury WILL work on Warjacks. The exact wording is “target model/unit”, the only restriction is “friendly faction”. Now, while it makes better economy to use it on a 12 man unit of Iron Fangs to get you 11 P+S16 attacks, or even a full unit of Man O War Demo Corps (getting you 10 P+S17 attacks)…… there is something strangely satisfying in telling your opponent that your Juggernaut is bashing away at P+S22. Any time you are getting damage dice +4 (against an average ARM18) is magic.
I must also disagree with the Blunderbuss comments. While it would be rare to use it, you will find that banging off the odd shot while Orsus is keeping behind the main line will net a few gains. It also makes for a fantastic surprise assassination tool. Primarily against Haley…..a lot of players over extend and don’t bother with camping on focus, they are too sure that Temporal Barrier will keep them safe. To a degree, they are right, TB may stop Orsus from chopping her up….but at ARM14 and rolling 4D6 damage she is very open to being killed off in a single blunderbuss shot. I would recommend pinging her for a few damage with your Widowmakers first. Average rolla on 4D6 is 14, which will wipe out 12 of her 15 damage….not too big an ask for 4 widowmakers under the effect of Blood Fury. Again, you will only use the blunderbuss on the odd occasion, but if your opponent is any good, you will find that you need it far more often than normal. As I said, it is more of a surprise weapon, next to no one ever expects to be shot at by Orsus.
