Man, the shape of that rocket launcher really takes me back to the first time I played 40k and the rule book had that Rogue Trader era cover 😀
As tempting as doing something new would be, i will be painting it as blood angels, is the army i have collected since second edition, and well i like what i know, and i cant help but feel they are saving the best till last when in comes to the primarch mini’s and sanguinius is going to be an epic sculpt….
I think I will be the boring guy and probably stick to Ultramarines. You can get a great looking Ultramarine force by different shades of blues and washes. Plus it fits the game.
Nothin’ wrong with the ultramarines. Solid choice. I only want to do white scars as I’ve already got an ultra smurfs force in the making for 40k.
Seeing what you get and the quality of the kit, that just blew the competition out of the water. Epic.
I think its interesting they went with alternate activations, even if this is just a board game .. it would be cool if this creeps into the main system as well. From what ive seen from the boardgame gameplay though the competition seems fairly unthreatened, imo. Looking at the minis you get its priced well, but if AoS is anything to go by the complementary boxed sets will leave atleast me shaking my head in disbeleif.
night lords
I havent played 40k for ages but read alot of the HH books… This box is so tempting… Now I am thinking about coming with a Alpha Legion Army. It is my favored Legion because of the secrecy and the black ops stuff that is going on. And you really dont know on which side there are on.
And: I am Alpharius…
Night Lords!!! Just dig those boots with lightning forks 🙂
Luna Wolves!
I’m going for luna wolves to, before all this heresy was happening, 🙂
But I have base coated my friends stuff for him aswell and hes going for the Ultrasmurfs, Hes already got one or two more boxes on order to build up his legion
SPACE WOLVES! I have been one since second and I feel no need to change things up.
What legion to take is actually a hard one for me. It would be a toss up between Space Wolves, Iron Warriors, Salamanders, and Death Guard. It’s really tough for me.
Got mine in the post today. I’ll probably go with Death Guard on one side and maybe Dark Angels on the other.
Is it ‘arcology’ that was meant about 5.45 in? If so these are self-contained structures that provide all the resources the inhabitants need to live (architectural ecologies). The city-blocks in Judge Dredd are a good example.
Or the later stages of simcity 2000 onwards…
Alpha Legion…
I would add to my FW Blood Angel Legion for 30K, my goal is to create a Chapters worth of 30K. I already have 2 companies; this set will just make it so much cheaper to complete.
That, Warren, is the question of the century. I can’t just do one, so I am planning an Imperial Fist/Blood Angel Defence of the emperors palace themed force.
I got my box this afternoon, with 3 bottles of lamenters (guess where I am going here…)
I have to say it’s really very good indeed. You get masses for your money (and if you shop with an independent then you’re going to save at least 20%)
All I can say is I’m delighted the weather has turned, it gives me every reason to stay in and get busy with this lovely kit.
Best to stock up on lamenters yellow, wasnt on the new citadel colour chart, dont know if it will become mailorder only or just discontinued, slanesh grey has become a dry paint now as well….
I would make Death Guard legion
looks awesome but will wiat for the kits to go on sale individually myself – I just want the cataphrachti terminators, always loved the look of those and wanted them in plastic 🙂 I doubt id do any specific legion but I always liked the idea of the shattered legions as it means you can justify a unique paint-scheme, especially if they are loyalists from traitor legions.
A mixed Legion Loyalist veteran squad sounds very cool.
itll purely be just a display piece most likely, but I love the idea of a group of terminators from across a few legions* banding (perhaps Isstvan survivors) together and forming a small rogue force to take revenge on horus.
*cos i just really love those legion specific terminators…
I’ll be continuing my World Eaters (all mk IV anyway) but am torn how I paint up the ‘enemies’. I tend to play loyalist WE so is it Word Bearers or Iron Warriors? (Storm of Iron was a great book). On the other hand a squad or two of Ultramarines wouldn’t go amiss. Urrgg – decisions, decisions.
Has to be Salamanders
It may be nitpicky but the termies dont have stormbolters, they have combi bolters, which are slightly different rules wise.
I’m going to use the Terminators and ten marines for my pre-heresy Iron Warriors the rest will be for a new project of mine 30k Raven Guard, I bought two boxes so two Contemptors and 50 marines will be a great start for them just need to add some pod’s and flyers, should be fun.
Word Bearers – always been my Chaos faction of choice
Alpha legion ,
I think the Contemptor’s an interesting one. The stiff legs are a bit lame – possibly deliberately so you still have a reason to get the Forge World one.
PS Dark Angels.
I would love one of those termi back plates for a killa kan face!!
I have to say, I’m sort of tempted by this…
If I did take the plunge, it’d have to be Death Guard and Space Wolves- or maybe Thousand Sons and Space Wolves, come to think of it!?
Imperial Fists
If I’m limited to one Legion, then I’d go Thousand Sons most likely. If I can do more than one I think I’d be tempted to do a Thousand Sons-Iron Warrior alliance.
That said, I really want to do truescale pre-Heresy Thousand Sons using Sigmarines as a base for conversion so maybe Iron Warriors would be the better choice if limited to one as then they can be used as allies for my 40k Thousand Sons (although I am tempted to use the set to revamp my current TS and replace my old minis).
Fortunately I can’t justify getting the set atm (no room, money or time to do them), so I don’t have to worry about choosing which of those options to go for for a long time yet lol
I think Thousand Sons are one of the under-represented armies for official bits. There were some ‘Steam Knight’ Heads that got close to the legion look…
That’s what putty and plasticard is for 😉
i thinking raven guard or night lords i have to wait till after xmas !!!
Ultramarines as Roman Legions
Emperor’s Children as Decadent Praetorians
But then Red vs Blue was the old Epic colour scheme – and I didn’t like Word Bearers untill I saw the painted set…
is it easy to have allied other-legion squads in Horus Heresy?
Sons of Horus for me 😎
Glueing all those Space Marines together makes me feel twenty years younger..tell ya!
the White Scar’s are the V legion of the original twenty. it would have to be the smurf’s for the imperial, to join the rest of my unmade army.
Pick “a” legion he says…. I tried that 4 year ago….. have recently started Legion No4! 🙂
I love the Dark Angels for the good Guy’s and i just don’t know what else as the bad guy’s but because i am a newbe in 40k i don’t even know what was the different army’s in that period of time so i might be wrong with the Dark Angel’s 🙁
during HH the dark angels were both good and bad, had a schism in their legion between loyalists and traitors, which is what the hunt for the fallen is all about in the 41st millennium. As far as a legion goes DA are pretty sweet, even if they are effectivly space king artthur and knights of the roundtable…
I’d go Iron Warriors.
Though I’d have to source shoulderpads from elsewhere than Forgeworld, because they really dropped the ball there. They need an alternate sculpt for the whole Iron Warrior range’s iconography. It’s a bitter disappointment to me.
If I was to go Loyalist though it would be Ultramarines, with red bolters. 🙂
I Actually had a ton of these bad boys http://www.games-workshop.com/en-GB/Iron-Hands-Tactical-Squad-Upgrade-Pack left over from my ‘battered veteran’ looking salamander army, around 20 pads along with all the mk V armour and a little mixed in from a couple of mk III legion iron hands (picked up a while ago with a iron farther and some gorgon terminators, because… O so purr-ty)
that said I also have some legion stuff in my salamander force so maybe with my next box… (a wallet screems from the other room)
p.s. 1 Chaplin or captain.
3 tac. squads (15+ guys total)
1 assault squad (no jump, and only doable if you go double flamer 5 man)
1 devastator squad (only 3 of each heavy weapon so a mix or accept less)
0-3 dreadnought (a proxy I guess but not a huge stretch)
(up to 5 marines and 5 terminators left over)
that there is a demi company 40k), the base of a space marine formation army, that’s even a fairly legit small force on it’s own in 40k.
I could see this as a great start to a Salamanders legion.
Choices, choices, choices…I might go for Nightlords.
luna wolvews or dearth guard
I’d choose the XVI Legion luna Wolves.
I love the way both Warren and AJ squeal as they pull the box to middile of the table, it’s exactly how I felt (and I started in the hobby in 1987)
Which Legion would I use ?? Maybe World Eaters to so with my Forgeworld Angron, but i’m more a loyalist kind of guy so maybe it should be War Hounds (the Great Crusade name for the World Eaters …. before they met Angron), but if I’m going to do that why not do a loyalist legion like two of my favourites , Raven Guard or Salamanders (Love them both and their Primarchs) but … in the end the leather tassets on the armour scream Greco-Roman so lets go back to my original love, now sadly unfashionable legion … Ultramarines … It has to be
If you did them as Dark Angels you could use them as the Fallen in 40K!
Will have to be Death Guard.
Imperial Fists, and maybe a cheeky mixed Traitor force. Not bought any GW for years and years, but this did tempt me. Very nice set, and the minis are rather fun too. I like that they are much cleaner and uncluttered compared to 40k stuff.
Alpha Legion XX all the way……until Legion II comes out of the mists of history.
(2 being my “lucky” number)
Tempting! Very tempting.
I think would go Salamanders or Raven Guard.
Tempting! Very tempting.
I would go for Salamanders or Raven Guard.
I would love to do an imperial fist legion. The siege of the emperors place would be an awesome theme for a board and campaign.
The Tenth Legion Iron Hands because the flesh is weak. i didn’t get two boxes because i want most of my legion to be mk III armour
Night Lords all the way
I have te feeling that the game isn’t all that much, so I think I will pass.
Got my Iron hands primed now, already getting that ‘just scooped off Istovan V and thrown back into the fray’ look I wanted; https://goo.gl/photos/uKTnG1JCFEfDzcuW8 dark grey primer with a less intensive dark grey-gun metal mix, I plan a few layers of various shades to darken them a bit and give them an oiled look.
They look really cool @sillymander – did you mix the colour up yourself and airbrush them on? Which paints / specific colours did you use? And where is the tech marine guy from?
Do you have a blog or are you posting progress updates anywhere? I’d like to follow along!
Tech guy is just a FW forge farther.
yes I mixed the colour myself it’s a mix of; army painter gun metal, vallejo model air steel, vallejo acrylic-polyurethane surface primer grey and vallejo acrylic-polyurethane surface primer black. With a fair amount of thinner then air brushed on. don’t ask what mix (a dab of this, a smidge of the other)
I have no blog or even real progress. well they have supper silvery hands (vallejo air chrome, but using a normal brush) and detail work and their first wash. made the mistake of buying a black Friday wraith host and my hobby time is being spent magnetising it (which is sort of a first for me, well below tank/ walker size models)
