Sisters of Battle. Ok, so the chances of a SoB army being voted for is pretty slim. However, because of how deep the background and fluff and how little Sisters get covered it is the perfect choice. They have so many of their own ‘chapters’ and can interact with so many of the other Imperial forces they can be themed far and wide.
😀 you’ve got my vote, sister!
I am not proud, I will take it!~!
Yeah for the SPACE NUNS!!!!!
My vote too.
This has my vote
You see Tau, Marines and the other armies on every corner. Sisters are the underdog on the table and very rare – thats your opportunity to make something really unique!
I support the vote for sisters (or Adepta Sororitas how they are now called in the “new codex”).
Plus one for the sisters
Fcuk the constant Waaaah-ing. If there was a lack of it there then than the gods, may it rest uneasily in a shallow grave!
Great vid – if you are going to do an army start to finish I would suggest is imperial guard, just my preference as 28mm sci fi human models are pretty easy to get a hold of.
Great weekender guys. Games Day didn’t look all that great, with the exception of that Panzer General looking iPad game. Best of luck on the move!
The DOS based Panzer General game was and is one of my all time favourite games!
I agree Orcs Orcs Orcs ….
2 words – Space Wolves 🙂
Yeah, if Sisters of Battle do not make the cut then Space Wolves would be great.
I choose blood angels.
So are you going to do the same for Fantasy too ? Could do Orcs or Deamons for both
So Gamesday is now just people paying £35 (or whatever it is these days) for the privilage of queing up to buy stuff they can buy off the interweb anyway?
Oh FFS!
You would have thought the clue to what it should be about was in the F***ing name!
Sisters of Battle i say !! emm does any have a Sisters of Battle army ?
It sure looks fun, when was this anyway?
You guys are getting excited about your renewed 40k coverage and I can accept that. It isn’t my thing but it is your prerogative to cover all the big games.
However I have one plea to make: do NOT play in 40k tournaments. I understand Warren has warmed up to the tourney scene recently through FoW and I fear the 40k competitive scene will kill that enthusiasm.
I have to add to the voices calling out for Sisters of Battle coverage. 🙂
I praise your ability to walk backwards without falling over Warren 😀
Great show guys, As the army voted for will undoubtedly be a Space Marine army I’d like to see the only chapter I’d even consider looking at: Space Wolves.
Loved the clip with Brian’s Massacre book being unwrapped, could see the pain in his eyes as @warzan ran his finger up that wrapper.
Dark Elder using a large number of female figs.
yes because you dont really see any stuff on them
Just for comparison of how times have changed.

This should work lol
But it didn’t, it failed, twas a wet fart with no ability to edit, lame 🙁
The Armageddon game is not an RTS but more a turn strategy game, i would say very similar to Final liberation, more info:

Haha, Games Day without any games..
Anyhow, I would vote for an Alpha Legion army. It would give access to conversions and a major codex.
LOL, how much did players pay just to go to a GW Mega Store then, sounds like a real person White Dwarf to me.
£35 🙁 and not one waaaggghhhh!!!!
Gamesday looked pretty sad to be honest especially when you compare it to any other wargames show.
I have to second @dais there’s a big difference between a 40K tournament and others but it would make a good report to see how you compare them.
Eldar will get my vote for your army.
Good luck getting back into 40k, after playing dropzone, flames etc it’s going to be a long hard road.
Orks were always my favorite! The opportunities for conversion are infinite! There’s so many ways of building an ork army that will be totally different and original.
Great show guys and good luck with the move, look forward to seeing you up and running again soon. As for the 40k army build, I think it’s a great idea, and I’d have to vote for Tyranids.
Going off on a bit of a tangent, while your building this 40k army (what ever it may be),
it might be interesting to choose one of the models, and do a little conversion tutorial with it.
Doesn’t have to be anything complicated, just enough to show off that side of the hobby, and explore how well that particular army lends itself to conversion work.
A new name for the 40k content, Warren you hit on the head, call it “Know your enemy!”
Good show, I must say that GW is coming on as a most ungrateful and hostile company by confiscating your equipment and sending you threatening letters. At my job (public administration, hardly the most innovative of fields) we get excited by media coverage and try to use it to our advantage, we don´t threaten journalist and confiscate their equipment.
any army but space marines, everyone collects them and makes videos on them
I have To go with my old favorite Dark Angels. for a name I am the The After Action Review or Video Recon.
And no Eternal Crusade ? Pretty strange…
Well I must say….Beasts of War crew, you guys are still a class act. PLEASE make sure that you have plenty of other content besides GW though. I am out, done, not a red cent more to those jokers. I really don’t care what their excuse or reasoning is, its draconian, tyrannical, and asinine. Being publicly trade or a corporation is not an excuse. As much as I watch EVERY thing you guys do, I will be avoiding any GW coverage, even yours. I am deleting podcasts, videos Ive saved, and stopping any Black Library reading I am doing. All my stuff is going into storage until they get their heads out of their bungs. If they cant in the next year or so, I will be selling it all later. Maybe I will even get over my outrage, but this is the last straw in long long line of bull that they have been pulling.
There are other companies out there that deserve the support we fans can give them. This is a damn hobby, we are the reason they are there, we are the ones who put them there.
Well that’s made my weekend, Cheers guys, good luck with the move and all the future plans you’ve got my backstage sub for a long time to come!
I really like the idea of that library of content from lore to painting and tactics about each army. This is something I could’ve used (and could still use), as a newcomer, to help me pick an army and get into the lore of wh40k.
I’ve only been into the hobby world in any serious way for a bit over a year, and even less into 40k, but would love to learn more about the universe and find an army that suits me from its looks to its lore. The problem is, there’s just so much stuff that I have no idea where to begin or where to go from what I start with.
In fact there’s a tiny idea/request for the series – Please mention some good books to get that are about the army that’s being discussed. That way I can go out and read more into the army that I end up liking.
As for armies I’d like to know about in this new upcoming 40k show, I’ve always been interested in the Sisters of Battle so something about them would be great at some point.
Why don’t you do a KS for those studios on the states ? I’m sure you will receive great support for it !
Dark Angels here as well.
You have one video announcement with some of the best anti GW nerd rage money could never buy.
Right next to “oh boy have you checked out the new line of sex toys put out buy Games Workshop”
-and-
Warren give me more and I want to have your baby screams the guy with a very large collection of name tags and hair nets…
You guys are a bunch of tools LOL
I say let GW do it doggie style and lube free to BoW for the continued unwanted coverage
of their sub standard product line.
Speaking in lesser legal terms of course
No Games being played AT Gamesday, hmm maybe they should change the name. Stand in Line day, or Meet and Greet day, or how about Pay Us Money for the Right to Buy our stuff Day.
Didn’t they compare going to Gamesday with Disney World in a press release? LOL
Love the show and all the content you guys put out and I’m really excited for the future, I hope everything in the move goes well.
I never realised you guys didn’t work on this full time! You did an amazing job with it being part time 🙂
Sisters of Battle, if you are going to do any 40k please.
I can’t believe you were actually let in – I can imagine Old World style wanted “apprehend the Media Ogres on sight” posters to all the security staff 🙂
The fact that they confiscated your equipment is just another example of sheer douchery – you have to ask what is their malfunction? They seem to think they are above Media attention, be it with the intent of trying to be as positive as possible about them. The least they can do is their own interviews/coverage and be sure of the propaganda.
I commend you on actually going but I have a funny feeling that GW will never accept you guys as fans as they’re, well…insane. For that £35 you could have got a set of new DV minis from ebay and kept some change for a Beer and even a packet of crisps – madness.
Aside from that I’ve sadly never been to a Gamesday and on that coverage I never will – I missed the best of it when they were a hobby company run by hobbyists for hobbyists, like GW misses it, but never mind – I’d rather go to Salute any day – at least I get a free mini and a goodie bag with stuff in it! You know what? For that £35 I not only get into Salute but I also get a return coach ticket to London and a sandwich/drink as well.
I would agree with Sisters but they are damn expensive. Why not Chaos Marines with Traitor Guard or Daemon allies – that way you could use DV as a base – it’s cheaper and it’ll be more helpful to beginners maybe? Then there’s so many options for Chaos warbands and it, IMHO, cuts right to the heart of the fluff for the Imperium of Man and for the state of the 40k Universe in general.
Or why not do a kind of ‘Vlog of 3 Gamer’s’ – so each of you start by collecting 400pts of a different faction maybe with a specific budget of say, £40-60 a month?
Good luck in the coming weeks and, for the love of God, don’t ever buy from GW direct – teach people how to budget with discounters, how to buy, strip and restore minis from ebay and how to sell bits online to make money back, use different paint and glue etc. Don’t 40k on their terms if you can help it – you could always play 2nd Edition, it’s much cheaper and the rules are online for free 😉
Yes, Vlog of 3 gamers is a great idea. Each start with battle box/strike force etc and build it into a tournament size army over a couple months to attend a tournament at the end. Painting and modeling ideas along the way and some practice battles against each other followed by tactics vids to go over anything you’ve learned or tried.
Chaos.
I gave up on the Nerd rage a while back with GW, actually around about the time I started playing it again… and two boxes of DV later, Chaos.
Great show, delighted you showed the winning attitude again lads. Now for more BS love.
The look on Justins face when America was mentioned was priceless. Ill be tuned in when you return.
I choose the new Space Marine codex. Mainly to hear your thoughts on the new centurian units that look a bit like sumo wrestler marines. I can understand why there are a lot of calls for a sisters of battle one, but those models and rules seem a bit dated to me and make a less exciting breakdown. However, that might be a reason to do them to maybe change mine and other people’s opinion on them. How an army that you don’t see played that often can work and how that can be used to players advantage due to lack of sisters of battle knowledge by other players.
Btw – loved Warren’s comment about looking a bit like Matt Ward. When I first started using the site I thought he actually was Mr Ward! Ha ha
+1 Sisters
… Though mixed feelings about a 40k show. There are lots of those out there while bow has really found a cool niche in lots of shows about lots of different games….
… On that note, ever considered a KS themed show? Could give a heads up about the projects in more detail than ott plus could give a quick play through of any alpha/ beta rules that have gone out with the project 🙂
Actually, I take it back. Sisters of Battle or Imperial Guard are my choices. You guys do an excellent site and I’d hate for you guys to get into trouble with GW from your opinion of sumo marines (Centurions) in the new Space Marine codex if enough people vote for it.
Like I said in my previous comment, I don’t know enough about Sisters of Battle and see them as a little bit ‘meh’ so need that opinion changed. Imperial Guard army is so big with loads of options I wouldn’t know where to start with them.
Anyhow keep it real and continue to rock on.
“For the Emperor and Sanguinius!”
I would veer well clear of sisters, not because i hate them and think space nuns with guns is silly but more to do with the fact that i think ive never played them ever… and if it’s a very unpopular army then the supposed benefit of learning ur enemy is sort of pissed away.
I would plum for fire hawks or saim- hann.
Fire hawks being legion of the damned and well generally awesome.
Eldar are well eldar and saim-hann are the fast and very deadly eldar…so goes without saying they crop up alot and are pretty damn competitive.
Personally I would vote for a Tau series, because they are what got me into 40K. It stands out a lot, is challenging to paint (due to all the smooth surfaces) and it requires good strategical thinking when playing.
But for the general public Orks might be a much better choice. They are fun for everyone, even if you don’t know what the hell is going on (like most Orks).
And I do also support the great enthusiasm shown so far for Sisters of Battle. If I ever start another 40K army I think that’s the one.
I can’t believe its happened again and this time bigger and badder….
When you were a kid (in my case growing up the 80’s) and finding out new things to get into like books or movies or games or even people in those days (used to have a giant Bowie poster on my wardrobe). You grow bonds with things things and even become fantatical about them (Im talking about other things – I just stopped at the poster). Then one day you grow up still with these fondnesses and interests – some things you realise were not the be all and end all – and some things stay with you you your whole life growing with you. Well one day in the late 90’s George Lucas decided to make a few more Star Wars movies and to be fair shattered my fondness for the saga and the expanded universe that had been built up beyond the first three films – BUT I did understand it – I even understand it more now having kids of my own. The time I grew up in from my point of view was golden and the memories of it will always remain so – but todays life is different – todays markets different and people want different thing out of things – long story short the movies were made for a new audience and i felt a bit betrayed by an old friend.
Now to the point of my post – when I was growing up I fell love with Lord of the Rings and fantasy stuff and endlessly made minature sort of games that resembled ‘North and South’ on the Amiga for as long as I can remember – I started buying minatures and getting more games and expanding stuff – one day I had finished an army, learnt how to build terrain and realised I had spent the last ten years devoting all of my spare time to GW related products. They were great, white dwarf was great – the games (main and smaller) were great etc… years passed again and in 2000’s after maybe a few years of not playing games GW released LOTR minatures THATS WHAT I HAD ALWAYS WANTED! I couldn’t belive it – so off i went again … This time something was different and I noticed it straight away, I didn’t feel like I was buying locally anymore, the stores felt colder and more pushy than furniture sales etc… I just wasn’t the same – I lost my rag when the prices effectively doubled for some plastic Gondorians and you got Half the minatures you used to! didn’t make any sense to me. I just feel like they are to be really cheesy like that GOTYE song – somebody I used to know. It goes to show though from my perspective how I can have such a feeling about this company as an almost friend – as I was actually bessotted with it! (I still have a Games day program signed by Jervis and the countless others with a sqig racing game attached in a baggie that they gave away free at the event).
The two really sad things are that my kids are getting a bit older and soon could potentially start into minature hobbies like this – unfortunately whereas I always dreamed about playing battles of warhammer with my kids I dont really see it now, not ruling it out but with everything else out there I don’t think there is the wow anymore. Secondly I can see why this all seems to happen. I dont really know how they are structured but presumably the head CEO has to answer to the ‘shareholders’ and these want profits – and he doesnt want to take risks and so has solely run this corporation effectively on what seems to be a paranoid profit gathering change of focus, and ultimately self destructive. Its just sad, Its happened again another life long friend I thought I has changed into something I think a lot less of. And the worst part is as much as I can sit here and say those choices are wrong – If i was in charge of making them for my families livelyhood I cant honestly say I wouldnt make them myself.
When I found Beasts of War 6 months ago – You guys embodied the spirit and passion I still have within me, so keep going guys whatever it takes. If anything its through media such as this that you are now carrying the torch for followers to call their hobby. Have belief in yourself as I think even if at times you don’t there are a lot of followers out here who do. (now I sound like a christmas movie).
anyway thats my views on it… sorry to bore anyone I just wanted to vent a bit.
I would probably do Space Marines or Orcs as a starter army to follow as they are more widely recieved? at least they were back in my 40k days when my Imperial guard got shot to pieces every week.
There was a moment, just a flash of something very dangerous in Brian’s expression when you (Warren) opened his brand new HH book two! I’m not sure if he wanted to lash out, cry or just wrestle the book from you and run away…but I guess all’s fair in love, war and live gaming vids! Nice work folks…and Brian chin up mucker at least you get to keep the book (even if you didn’t open first)!
Awesome show guys. LOVE the concept of satellite studios in the States. Are you thinking about something like a spinoff crew.. BOW-LA? 🙂 Seriously tho.. That’d be awesome. hmm.. wonder how cheap Pittsburgh’d be for space and options…
My vote is for Sisters of Battle aka Adepta Sororitas. They are a lot of fun and very quirky.
I went to the U.S. Games Day for the first time, and it was the same as Warren said in the U.K. I spent more time waiting in lines than doing anything fun! The swag bag was junk. Basically I paid a lot of money to shop there, when I could have saved my money from the drive, hotel and ticket and bought from my local store.
With reference to the point about the average age of attendees at this years GD (19:25 into the vid)…this is because GW has not only reduced the number of tickets on sale to 4k from 8k, but they also scrapped the parent ticket. I took my son to his first GD last year (2012) and it cost £41 + travel. He had an awesome day out being able to play loads of participation games, having a go at the terrain or scrap challenge etc etc. This year it would of cost us £70 + travel and all he would of been able to do is “look” at things. GW is all about gaming…so how can you game without playing? They really dropped the ball here. I would of been asking for my money back if I had gone this year and found the event as has been represented in many articles posted since. It’s ok to try something different…but when you are a games company you have to be about the games and not all the other periphal stuff you sell and talking to the makers! My son got into LotR GW Game thanks to GD last year and has spent even more money with GW building that side of his hobby alongside his existing 40k & Fantasy armies. This year would of been so boring for him I think he would of preferred to stay at home and watch the paint dry on his minis! Poor show GW. Mixed messages from the company again here. Their target market is school kids…yet this GD has nothing for school kids to enthuse or excite about! ANd that is the point really…GD should be exciting. It is GW’s premier event and their chance to show off…but all they showed this year is how to f*!k people off by queuing for just as long at previous shows and with little else besides sales, sales and more sales. I’ve been to hobby and craft fair that were more exciting than the look of this years GD. And they only charge £5 to let you buy stuff from their sellers!!
I like the 40K from start to finish idea guys. I think you should do something similar with other games too. Infinity and Warmahordes specially.
I vote for Sisters of Battle (I collected an army when they first came out – but I’ve not updated it with any subsequent waves of releases – this could give me the required kick-up-the-arse to dust them off & build up the army again…)
I’d glad you can cover GW again, but I hope we don’t lose the coverage of small indi games – I love 40k but also love 7TV & Empire of the Dead…
Also, how about giving us a free XLBS so I can decide if it’s worth paying the extra for in future… I’ve not become an ‘insider’ because there is lots of free hobby material here & on other sights, I’d like a sample please…
Well as they say in the videos, its the backstagers that help BOW to run, so if you are enjoying the free content, contribute and help BOW make even more awesome shows. It’s not what BOW can do for you, it’s what you can do for BOW 🙂 take the plunge, you wont be disappointed, if you are, just cancel the subscription.
With BoW moving back to independent status, any chance we’ll see a return of … Darrell?
I give a vote to the Iron Hands. I like the Adepta Sororitas, but so hard to fill out with good figures. The new Iron Hands builds give some interesting options.
A lot of people are saying Sisters of Battle, they would be great as they’re an under appreciated army… but it would be an ALL METAL ARMY! If they had a plastic kit for the battle sisters I’d say definitely, but as it stands a sister’s army would be really expensive. Also the metal minis are hard to convert, even a simple head swap would be a real pain, making it a poor choice IMO from a modelling perspective.
I think Guard would be better as they’re plastic, and you can convert them to your own look much easier. They can ally with practically anyone (even chaos!). Guard are due a new codex next year, so interest will be higher.
They’re also 40k’s underdogs which I think would be appropriate!
There are plastic kits… They just haven’t been released yet 😉
On re-thinking I definately think a Marine army would be great – BUT I would go back to basics and create your own chapter – look at existing fluff and fit it in – maybe look at converting allies in the backstory to be part of it etc… really go above and beyond what you can get from a generic army list.
That Warhammerquest game is really very good. It looks great, plays like the game but better and is surprisingly addictive. I have ended up with the Skaven zone upgrade and the additional three characters but all up still spent half of a new PC game so not bad value at all. It even keeps track of your hours played as you log in just to remind you how much time you have been playing. Well worth the price and a great board game to tablet conversion.
I vote for the Sisters too! Sexy Space Nuns…drool.
Shame there’s no weekender because of the move.
OMG…I have been toying with the idea of starting a gaming club in my town but have no clue as to how best start it off as I am fairly new to the town and don’t know that many people who game. I REALLY look forward to your gaming club coverage.
As for 40K army, if I was to be tempted at all to get into 40k it would have to be SPACE WOLVES.
I aim to be starting our whole look into ‘club life’ starting in the next week or two 🙂
If you have ideas, or questions definitely PM me so we can include them!
I’m liking the idea of seeing a Sisters of Battle army built up from scratch. With a new codex and new models the could be really well done.
I think i prefer the idea of doing a two-for-one Daemon army for both WFB and 40k though.
You could call the new 40K show “Hammered” There is a warhammer and forge joke there. The getting drunk joke is there too. Hope you like it. As for first codex, how about the blood angels, they seem to take a back seat quite often.
