November 21, 2014 by elromanozo
We're back for the next stage of painting the fantastic Myth Soldier from Megacon Games as Romain adds the next few layers of colour.

YES! Part Three!!!!
Interesting effect and I like the way Romain explains the choice of colors.
I good tutorial, but cut off a bit strangely. Have to buy myself some Hull Red.
Not sure this colour scheme was what I expected… but as this is Romain maybe I shouldn’t have any expectations – except to get something I didn’t expect. (?!)
I wish I had his brush control.
Experience speaks. You’ll get there ! 🙂
Spent the whole series thinking “I wouldn’t choose that colour…or that one” and once again Romain proves me wrong. Looking really awesome!
I couldn’t afford the kickstarter, so I’d love a chance at winning Myth bundle!
Looking forward to see the finished miniature
Im amazed at how much colour he gets out of the washes, watched parts 1-3 all at once and now IM hanging for part 4
Still trying to win Myth… Oh and great vid 🙂

Looking good, Romain!
I always check to see when the next part has been put up.
I wasn’t sure about the color scheme at first but, I’ve come to like it! Surprising! Good work!
Great tutorial as usual
I still go blind when I see the contents of those shelves
I would hate to Myth out on thith opportunity to win the game!
I have to admit I am still unsure of the color selection as well (blue hair?)… but I have thought that before with Romain’s video series and the end result is always fantastic! It’s nice to see a different perspective on color pallet selections and how well it comes together in the end. Looking forward to part four.
I’m still not convinced by the choice of colours…
nice highlightings but i still don’t like the scheme…
“This video is private”
🙁
If I don’t win, I may have to order the game from the Holiday Sale Megacon is having
Very bright colour scheme! I’m interested to see how he turns out.
Dude… that is a nice looking paint job on a great mini.
Great work.
Looking really nice, must get myself a wet palate
Thanks ! A wet palette is quite easily done… I’ve done a tutorial about it, too.
Aw, I was expecting this to be the final part. I guess I’ll have to wait until the weekend.
Whenever I try to wash things like this, I always get it to watery and it runs everywhere. Then when it dries, it dries like a pasty washed over colour instead of nice like this work. Any tips?
Yes… put a lot less on your brush.
Ideally, you should never have a “drop” of paint on your brush, and the bristles should barely be tinted by what you have on them. What’s more, you should never “fill” your brush : paint should probably never go past a third of the length of the bristles, maybe half in some rare cases. For highlighting and glazing, you shouldn’t even see the colour on the brush. Most tutorials, I have to work quickly, so I grab a little too much paint… But you don’t have that constraint at home.
This will help you control your paint : less paint on the brush means it dries faster, and doesn’t go everywhere. It will basically stay where you put your brush (or closer to it anyway). You need that precision (even though a nice sloppy wash on the whole miniature can be called for sometimes).
Another good advice to control the quantity of pigment in your mix (or the translucency of the paint) is to decompose dilution : count the drops of paint and the drops of water you put into your mix. It helps ou to see how paint reacts/behaves (if that word makes sense…), and what quantity of water you need to achieve certain consistencies. This, of course, varies from brand to brand, from tone to tone.
For regular paints, at least, you should never use them undilute or straight from the pot… even though, nowadays, a lot of washes and special paints can be used like that, it is always better to fiddle and experiment with it first, were it only to be more subtle : always experiment and question your technique, that’s how one gets better ! 🙂
I hope this satisfies your curiosity !
….Romain’S voice really reminds me to BOB ROSS….
must try the wet pallette at some point
Looking good
And the figure is coming to life the magician with a brush strikes again.
Just love watching this Master Craftsman at Work.
I’m absolutely elated at the comments I see here… some of them are beyond nice, and downright adulatory. Even though I know there is a prize at stake, those comments could easily have been neutral. I feel I don’t deserve them, but in any case, thanks guys ! 🙂
Pulling a ticket for the lottery …
great job on the details 😀
great work, i wish i coudl paint like this.
Yes, coming along. losing the graininess, gaining the saturation.
Myth is a great game.
I’ve been learning a lot from you, Romain. Thanks for sharing your talent/passion.
i have been using some of your techniques and they have been helping me a lot. Thank you for your great tutorials.

This figure is coming together really well. I really like the cartoon vibe they have going.
Going to enjoy trying to follow this tutorial. Hope I win a copy. My fiance looks eager to try it too, could finally introduce her to miniature gaming lol 🙂
I love these painting videos but I doubt I’ll ever have the patience
Not bad at all.
Myths looking good
I wish these videos weren’t cut up like this, but I appreciate the conversational tones of the videos.
You make this look so easy but I am sure it isn’t!
This looks like a wonderful game
Interesting colour scheme. not sure about the blue hair, but I love how you shaded everything with one colour.
Winning comment here?
Excellent
Looking interesting
Another great themed week, the game looks awesome! Thanks guys!
awesome stuff, this game looks like a lot of fun
As someone who is color blind I didn’t see how this was going to come toether but it did.
Dont love the color choices but its done so wel
Commenting for greater justice o/
I really want to win this 🙂
I always love seeing the progression between these video’s. @elromanozo what is the actual time you spent on this mini? Lately I feel my progress is very slow.
Thanks for mentioning the plastic and the way the primer didn’t go on well. The uneven coverage was what I was alluding to in one of my previous comments about strengthening the colour.
