Nice, but I’d go for a bit deeper/richer shade of both orange/gold and the green. Good, fast work.
I see what you mean… The orange looks a bit dull in the 360° view (I don’t know why), but I assure you it’s much more vivid in person. That said, it is a bit “uniform”.
As for the green… Well, there’s blue in the shadows, two hues of teal, flesh and ivory as highlights… I think it’s rich enough.
Still, you’re right : I think the mini could use some freehand, and a bit more detailing.
I had another look at the videos…it must look better live than in the pictures, true. I think it’s the light that makes it all a bit blurry.
Perhaps some Aleph or Panoceania as next Infinity model to paint? A TAG maybe? It might also be fun to see a whole link of troops painted in a uniform color scheme but with some individual highlights to make them easily identified on the table – like a link of 5 Magister Knights.
On a side note – seeing your gaming table in the Prisoner Rescue mission video, perhaps a video showing the MAS buildings being painted?
I didn’t build that table… But your message has been heard !
I’ll consider speed-painting rank-and-file Infinity troopers (even if it pains me a little to chain-paint those models) and add it to the list… Thanks for the suggestion !
Watching you paint has been very educational. It’s also shown me you can assemble your models completely and still have the paint jobs come out great.
I think darker background could make the mini looks better. I think this paintjob would look rather nice forthe general faction.
I will probably have to paint it yellow instead of orange but still I learnt quite a bit from you. Thanks alot.
Thanks for this Romain!
I like 🙂
lovely green mantle!
nice very well done and very quick.
Thank you, the 2 videos motivate me to paint my pheaseant so he will be ready for the new imperial reinforcements!
High quality work IMO and nicer than anything I am fielding 😉
Nice, eagerly looking forward for the next one.
I’m awfully tempted to strip and repaint my Pheasant now.
classic orange/green scheme, I like.
I have to paint more… I am too lazy for this world.
good stuff
I think it looks nice considering it only took two hours from start to finish! It usually takes me allot longer to paint up my ALEPH.
The poutches looks a little unfinished and plain, a wash and a highlight would ad depth to them and bring them out a bit for very little extra painting time.
Well, it took a little more than that. There’s some bits that were cut, but not much… But thank you !
Very nice, especially considering the time involved.
Do all paiters got hairy hands or only the one with sence of hummor ??
What I meant is that as mundane is the chore of painting several very similar models, vide WH40K, it requires an art in its own right, to make the models both uniform and differentiate them enough at the same time for them to be easily distinguished on a cluttered table. I’d gladly see what in this respect the BoW team might have to share. Small differences in color shades, little greenstuff additions or some freehand badges or something.
Looks good, I like how the green came out and may try it out however I am partial to my oranges. It may help to attach a mic to Romain as he is talking softer than a certain happy painter.
The queue was a specific male hairstyle worn by the Manchus from central Manchuria and later imposed on the Han Chinese during the Qing dynasty. The hairstyle consisted of the hair on the front of the head being shaved off above the temples every ten days and the rest of the hair braided into a long pigtail.
The hairstyle was compulsory on all males and the penalty for not having it was execution as it was considered treason. In the early 1910s, after the fall of the Qing dynasty, the Chinese no longer had to wear it. Some, such as Zhang Xun, still did as a tradition, but most of them abandoned it after the last Emperor of China, Puyi, cut his queue in 1922.
Thank you for the historical details !
Who said culture was absent from gaming ?
I’m almost stunned that you’ve done in so little time so much on the mini. I’m way too slow and even slower to get on with it.
Anyway next time push the volume a little bit more I hardly ear something though it’ seems really intimate like that ^^
While I do like the colors used on this model, I really think that having the armor almost all one color (plus shading and highlights) resulted in a slightly bland effect. The model’s face plate was off-white, but pretty much all the other armor was the same color. I think if just a few more armor plates were given a different color the model would be more interesting looking.
Now to start painting all my Infinity. Thanks for this tutorial.
Nice one
Now I want to paint a pheasant. Not an actual pheasant though.
“not to bad” he says…..OMG it’s AWSOME. You’re the man
That was incredibly helpful, thank you. Nice to know I’m not the only one who blunders over the lines now and again :).
how? just HOW???
About the definition of blue and green in “asian” languages:
I’m only going to talk about Chinese, because it’s the only asian language I’m proficient in.
In Chinese there are in fact individual words for blue and green, which are 蓝 lan (which in fact means indigo plant and the meaning as color obviously derives from that plant’s color) and 绿 lü. But there is also 青 qing which ranges between green/blue/greenish black and is also considered the “color of nature”. So regarding Chinese you were at least partly right.
About braids:
Might be wrong here, but I cannot remember hearing about one of the colonial powers forcing the populace to wear a certain style of hair.
During the reign of the Manchu on the other hand, male chinese of Han ethnicity were forced to wear the queue, which meant long braid, but shaved front. Not to wear it was in fact considered treason and perpetrators were executed.
Many chinese chose death over the indignity of wearing this symbol of cultural oppression.
And finally about your paintjob:
I’m not quite seeing the overall harmony, but that might be a matter of taste.
The color of the armor really doesn’t work for me, it takes away from the rest of the areas, which work together quite well.
Especially your bold moves on the coat (periscope) and the nmm gold (german camo green) worked out very well and are absolutely convincing. They are proof of how subtle blendings with colors that appear strange choices at the first glance, can really breathe life into a paintjob.
You’re absolutely right about the queue… And about mandarin/cantonese, I’ll take your word for it !
Thank you for your kind words…
Retrospectively, I should have done something with the armor to make some plates a little less bland… However, this is pretty much the official Yu-Jing orange and green, and that is what I intended to show : These are the colours used for Yu-Jing troopers, tiger-soldiers, Invincibles, Hsien, and so on…
You can’t please everyone… But I do hope next tutorial suits your tastes better !
R.
I enjoyed your tutorial very much, please don’t get me wrong. It’s simply that one color that doesn’t appeal to me, but I can see your reasoning of course, you have to stick with the scheme of the faction. Like I said, it’s probably a matter of taste.
Besides, your tutorial succeeded in the most important thing, it made me look forward to painting my recently ordered Aleph even more. Hope CB is quick with the shipping, I can’t wait to do a nice and clean paintjob basing of on a white basecoat for a change.
Too much gritty and grimy underhive stuff recently.
No offense taken…
Thank you for your interest !
Excellent work on the cloak the blends seem to give it a texture of satin. I have learned a lot watching your tutorials.
Thank you,
JW.
these mini’s are very hard to paint. I always enjoy seeing what people do with them.
lovely work!
Pretty good tutorial!
An interesting tutorial. Thanks for taking the time to do this.
wow nice
Thats coming along nicely!
I have to admit orange is by far my worst color to paint. it can be very difficult to get a non-yellow hilight and non-brown shade. It is made more difficult by orange paints having such poor coverage.
Great, thanks!
Whoo hoo….shakalakka shakalakka yeh baby ;0)
Good tutorial, really appreciated
Great continue of part 1.
After one hour watching the ending is epic!! Simply… Bye then!! hahahaha
In the other hand I like the colour scheme, maybe what I would have done is this orange on the armor more “yellow” but stunning scheme however!!
Beautiful work, especially considering the time involved. I mean, obviously not 2 hours, but I’d guess no longer than 4, and still far and away better than what I could achieve in that time span. My only gripe would be the face plate being ivory with the orange-ish armor around it. Maybe a green lens effect to tie in with the cloak but still contrast enough with the rest of the armor?
A question though: I’m starting up Ariadna, and was wondering if you had any color suggestions for the Corvus Belli scheme’s green armor on the kazaks. Crazy futuristic Russians are just too cool not to paint, especially as they’re portrayed on the box.
The Pheasant’s such a nice model. Always feel motivated to get some painting done after your videos.
Thanks Romain!
lets see what you do with it…
Really love your paint job on it Romain! I love both Imperial Agent models already and I really like the Jade/Orangey terracotta look!
awesome, would be nice to see a few shoots of him on a table with terrain around him, bet he would look great.
Awesome, bet he would look great on the table, would be nice to see a few shoots of him on a table with terrain around him.
I don’t like orange/pale armour, but painting is still nice.
Very very cool. He looks like he’s been involved in some intrigue at court with that cloak
More Infinity painting tutorials plz 🙂
Yet another great vid keep up the good work
Good painting, but I find the result a little bit plain in colours.
Selenio.
me want!
I really like the cloth it looks like silk
I like how the green came out, I will try a similar trick, thanks!
Ive been wanting to start infinity for awhile, but ive been unsure about which faction to start, after seeing this video im sold on yu jing, cant go wrong with space ninjas!
pretty sure after watching this I’m switching to a wet pallet
