Cthulhu Investigators by taochi

Kicking things off this week is a fantastic set of Investigators from the Cthulhu boardgame, Death May Die. A lover of Mythos and the Call of Cthulhu RPG who got sucked into the Death May Die board game via some pesky online videos about it and has done some terrific work on the boardgame pieces getting them ready for the tabletop.

Starting with Russia's holy love machine we get a really nice paint job clean paint job and some work on the flames in his hands. He's also got a sweet beard and awesome hair reminding me of.. well I'm not sure who but he looks amazing.

Up next are the Kid and Morgan, again beautiful work on both models and a head melting amount of polka dots on that dress, that shows an attention to detail as they've worked to match the artwork from the character cards of the game to a tee, even Morgan's slim silver necklace has been picked out. Showing us that when you really appreciate a game no step is too far to set it off.

No game involving Cthulhu is complete without cultists reading from blasphemous tomes, and Death may die is no exception. I particularly like this leader telling his minions to drag the investigators to the altar for the sacrifice...I imagine... the free hand on the book is a lovely touch and it's probably best you go ahead and roll your sanity check for me now.

Nurgle Maulerfiend by Robert

Sticking with the theme of insanity causing monsters we have a bit of a conversion on a Chaos Maulerfiend for Warhammer 40K. Robert's been sucking diesel and breaking out the Green Stuff to turn a sleek metallic murder machine into something, well look for yourself

So yeah, that's a thing. I promise you there is a Maulerfiend in there somewhere, but the amount of additional detail sculpted on there is insane, roll your sanity check again..lose a point anyway. Obviously a tentacle maker has been pressed into heavy service but it's when you look at the extra work, like the suckers on the stabby-metal-tail-things, you can really start to appreciate just how much time and effort must've gone into this demon engine to make it a slave to darkness. The Great Unclean One face is a lovely touch also.

Looking past the conversion work on it though to the paint job and it screams old school Blanche, the colour pallet also blends and merges what is metallic and what may perhaps be flesh into a seamless swirling mess of disgustingness. It's a fantastic job among a project that mixes the sublime with the ridiculous to great effect.

The Dominator by fourtytwo

We finish off this week with a project that I have been following for months and after one unfortunate accident looked like it may never be finished. But thankfully the Imperial shipyard at Kuat was able to get things back on track. I give you the Dominator

Yeah, no, that's not a screenshot that is a magnificent piece of work to light a plastic kit from Zvezda and the work that has gone into not only lighting, but also converting it to be as accurate as possible  to the hero model from the film is absolutely insane.

Words can't do this thing justice and it is truly a superb example of the model makers art. I'm blown away by every step of this project and was so happy to see it completed in all its glory. Some of the techniques used were fascinating to me, as someone who has not and probably never will light a model it is interesting to watch it come together. Other techniques like panel lining with a pencil are things that all of us could probably keep in the toolbox for other more modest projects.
