A suggestion for the skin tone shadow here. Look at a glaze of purple with the Vallejo Xpress or AP Speedpaint. The barest hint of that tone would work well as an introduction of a cool blue tone. Because it’d be a glaze you wouldn’t need to be picky on how light you went the first time around. Building it up in the recesses would give a little bit more oomph to the pallete you use. On top of that I also suggest a liner of a dark brown to finish out the separation of elements.

In oil painting I used to mix Aluzarin Crimson, Burnt Umber and Prussian Blue for a chromatic black. For Shay’s Zulu army I sent that was the same principle I used to build up their flesh tone. Start with blue as basecoat thay also would shadow, drybrush the burnt umber for lit sections of flesh, build over it with light umber to show muscle detail and use the barest hint of higher highlight.

I’d be interested to see you use purple and orange for a flesh tone. I’ve seen it done to create middle grays which aren’t far off from most skin. Y/R/B -> Or/Pu. I haven’t yet done it but it might prove useful. If you want to see the R/B/Y -> Pu/YG(light green) look at the Giftmas episode with Justin’s giant last year. I built up the base skin from green undertones, layered a “pallid/necrotic” flesh on that and shaded with purple.
