About the Project

So after a long time resisting I was talked into going halves on the new Saturnine box and then I saw Wayland did quite a good deal on the box and ended up with a box and half. To sort out my paint scheme I ordered a Mk6 tactical squad and settled on Ultramarines as a friend who talked me into this plays Iron Warriors and I have Imperial fists in 40k and the only other one I fancied was White Scars but for them they should all be on bikes or in transports. Hopefully we'll get some games in once I have enough of a force to play.

Following the test paint scheme the Mk6’s are done, one big squad with bolters and I have made a start with the Mk2’s.

The weathering

Finally I wanted a bit of weathering on the minis, the goal was to make them appear as if they had concrete dust all over their feet and legs.

To do this I used Ultimate weathering wash concrete letting it dry and then wiping it off with a damp cloth.

Not totally happy with the result but its the best I can do for now. I may come back to it at some point.

The bases

I did consider buying or 3d printing the bases but in the end I decided to make them using cork and army painter rubble.

These were then sprayed black and dusted with grey seer. The cork parts were then given a black wash and then using a sponge I added ash grey (army painter) to highlight the edges and any high points.

In the end I ended up with standard paint scheme:

Armour: Macragge Blue
Gun: Black
Silver accents: leadbelcher
Straps: Zandri Dust
Decoration: Retribution Gold
Eyes: Demon Red (two thin coats)

Then put a black wash over the whole thing and re highlighted the armour with Macragge Blue and lightened with white at the tops.
