Project Completed - The Stormcast Finally Make Sense!
Hi everyone,
This army project is now complete. In all honesty, it should have been completed at least six months ago – if I was consistent. Unfortunately, it is hard to paint the same thing over and over again when there are so many nice things to paint up.
As they say, you can’t cry over spilled milk, but I did work on…and completed several other smaller projects – so I guess it is a Ying-Yang thing.
As for the army, it is not a tournament min-max army. I just painted up one of each unit with a few exceptions:
- The warriors, since they are the core of the army,
- The crocodogs because I had 10 of them and I did not know what to do with them,
- The blasters, because it is simply more convenient to build two at the same time than just one,
- and finally the chariots, because they are the only unit in 3rd edition that give me a fighting chance of winning.
I like to play as if I was an ancient general. These guys rarely (if ever) had the army they really wanted, but rather fought with what they had and made the best of bad or worse situation. That is how I intend to play, and that is why this army is complete. I now have what I have and I will make the bet of it.
The Missing Units
I was working on some allies for this army in the form of Runegolems from the defunct Runewars miniatures battle game. I bought 4 boxes of these golems at 50% discount at FantasyWelt in Germany.
With 4th edition, allies are not an official thing anymore, so I decided to leave them for some other project in the future.
The problem is that the only reason I play 28mm scale fantasy mass battle games is because of Kings of War, and a small KOW community that is situated near where I live. If it was not for these two factors, I would stick to 10mm and 15mm mass fantasy battles. I like KOW, what can I say, it is one of my top 5 fantasy mass battle games (not the first or second though!).
Unfortunately, this little community are not narrative or campaign style gamers, but those blessed competitive gamers that love these competition events. Therefore, if I want to play my options are slim – it is either find some other solitary unicorn of a player nearby who shares my proclivities with narrative gaming or conform to the group.
That’s all folks, see you in the next army project.
Stay safe and have fun.
