November 24, 2025 by brennon
A long-awaited plastic set is now available on Kickstarter via the folks at Great Escape Games. The US Cavalry can be used in Dead Man's Hand and beyond in 28mm scale.

This set of dismounted US Cavalry features two frames. Each frame will allow you to make five plastic miniatures with options for arming them with carbines and revolvers. You'll also get parts to make an Officer and they even included a trademark Beagle!

The sprue shot that we have here shows off the array of different components available on the sprue for you to play around with. You have a great selection of heads to choose from, plus the torsos and legs are separate, so that you can mix and match the figures into a selection of different poses.

This should be another great plastic kit for you to play around with, especially when you use it alongside the existing plastic sets for Dead Man's Hand. You'll also note that the set comes with heads, allowing you to make Native Americans fighting alongside the US Cavalry and the "Buffalo Soldiers" of the period.
[Update] If you'd like to get a look at the finished, painted miniatures based on those plastic sprues, get a peek at the image below.

The miniatures are looking great and it's nice to see all of the different options being used to create dynamic members of your "gang" to use in Dead Man's Hand. Who could pass up a set featuring an adorable little Beagle!
As well as the new plastic kit, this Kickstarter is also funding some metal figures to use alongside your US Cavalry collection. For example, the first unlock was for Captain John Stiffman who you can see below.

More metal miniatures are going to be unlocked throughout the campaign, plus you can also dive in and get your hands on some of the other new plastic kits from Great Escape Games. A good way to start your Dead Man's Hand collection and give yourself loads of bits for customising and kitbashing.
The Kickstarter is now live, giving you a chance to get the miniatures in December, ahead of the full release in January 2026. This dismounted set will also be joined by a mounted set later next year.

The rest of the kit looks good too.
An excellent set and I will be purchasing a couple of boxes.
Can’t wait for the plastic renegade Apaches and Banditos to really create the chaos in my Western games.
