Shadows of Brimstone
Getting Started With Brimstone
Howdy!
This year I have been feeling nostalgic towards Warhammer Quest 95. I’ve invested heavily in HeroQuest but regardless of how much I enjoy it, it isn’t the same.
The newer Warhammer Quest games are also very different from ’95 and expensive. I did some searching and found a lot of very positive support for Shadows of Brimstone. I decided to take the plunge!
I was surprised and thrilled to find that the miniatures were hard plastic. That immediately activated my ‘need to buy more’ instinct which I held off. I hadn’t played the game yet!
So instead, I channeled that energy into painting the heroes.
The figure quality is fantastic. I love the sculpts and, despite not being a big western fan, I was drawn in immediately. My only criticism is that the scale is slightly unique. These would obviously not work with any of my other 28mm stuff. They are far more along the lines of 32mm or 28mm heroic or similar.
My next step was a prime of Hyrax Brown from Colour Forge. I’ve been using brown a lot more over dark grey. The shadows seem more natural and it is easier to get a deeper dark where I need to.
After that I went with a heavy dry brush of Golden Brown from Pro Acryl.
Finally in the style of the once popular “one, two, dragon” books, I finished the heroes without taking any intermediate photos.
I am generally happy with how they came out. From an arms length they’re exactly what I want. If anyone is interested in any particular color I do have my recipes written down.

Yas! Shadows is a really fun game and I don’t see enough people talking about it. Looking forward to following along on this one
