Community Spotlight: Medieval Soldiers, Kings Of War Dwarfs & Musical Necrons
March 25, 2026 by brennon
Come and join us for another delve into the Projects to find the best of the best from the last week or so. We'll be getting stuck into lots of great-looking miniature wargaming painting and hobbying this week...
...always let us know what YOU have been working on and share it across the site.
Medieval Miniatures by ewokkebab
We start off this week by having a look at what ewokkebab has been doing recently. They wanted to put together some regular ol' Medieval soldiers for use in a bit of Five Leagues From The Borderlands. This means that these miniatures would be great for both Historical and Fantasy games.
These miniatures were already assembled but had sat pretty much unloved as part of the pile of potential for a while, Knowing that they needed to slot in some new figures for Five Leagues From The Borderlands, this seemed like a good opportunity to get some paint on these figures and included them as part of the collection.
These miniatures have come from all sorts of places, pre-dating the range by Wargames Atlantic and Victrix. Still, they look great and are going to suit being included as part of a Fantasy/Historical wargame. ewokkebab has done a solid job of getting these finished off and based, especially with those nice shield decals.
ewokkebab wasn't particularly happy with the fact that the decals weren't pre-cut but the project goes through the process of getting them ready and then onto the miniatures, as you see here. I think this worked out quite well. This is a great set of figures that will have multiple uses once they hit the tabletop!
Kings of War Dwarfs by hazyboy75
Next up, we're having a look at the work of hazyboy75, who has decided to have a punt at playing 4th Edition Kings of War. Deciding to leave things up to chance, hazyboy75 has decided to go for one of the mystery battalions from the folks at Mantic and it turned out to be Dwarfs.
This mystery 1000-point force has now started to take shape and has been getting painted up by hazyboy75. This was, as hazyboy75 put it, a "sh**load" of Dwarfs. Now, I am not a massive fan of the Dwarfs from Mantic but I think they look great in this painted selection above. The gold/bronze armour works really well, especially when spotlighted by the bright blue shields and tabards.
I really like how quickly these miniatures came together and how good they look. I like that hazyboy75 has done a solid job of making sure that the miniatures work and the sculpts, as old as they are, really shine. You can even tell what different elements of the miniatures are!
I am fascinated to see what hazyboy75 has been doing with the rest of the army and how big this force gets. There are 1000 points of Dwarfs for you to sink your teeth into here and this could be a good tutorial for someone to follow if they're seeking to get a force done quickly. Also, yes, I know that it's Dwarves but Mantic still likes to use the Games Workshop classic of Dwarfs.
Necrons by darkdanegan
Last but not least, we're turning our attention back to some Necrons and a rather fun project that is going to be getting back off the ground.
Inspired by the band Soundgarden, the Limorekh project was recorded (much like the song Limo Wreck) but never finished. With that in mind, darkdanegan has come back to refine the project and give it another go!
Here you can see some of the miniatures that formed part of the initial project idea. I think they turned out really nicely, especially with the addition of the Ossiarch Bonereapers character in the mix, sitting alongside the Flayed Ones as a good leader figure. The idea now is to come back to this with new paints, refined techniques and an exploration of the lore of the Necrons.
This is, by darkdanegan's own admission, the best idea they have ever had. Love the passion. With that being said, they are going to be bringing more characters into the mix, inspired by the band and its members, as well as some fun new ideas that will take the project in different directions. For example, King Kor’Nell is on the way. Make sure to check out the project in more detail to find out where this goes!
