The Horus Heresy: Burning Of Prospero Now Available For Pre-Order

Games Workshop has now added the new Horus Heresy: Burning Of Prospero set to their webstore allowing you to pre-order it for the start of November. Space Wolves will be facing off against Thousands Sons as Ahriman and Geigor clash...
The set is going to come with all manner of boards, cards, dice, tokens and more allowing you to play out the Burning Of Prospero. Space Wolves have been joined by the Custodes and the Sisters Of Silence to bring the Thousand Sons to account. In terms of the gaming aids you get...
- A 16-page book covering the story behind Burning of Prospero;
- A 32-page rulebook;
- 15 Psychic Power cards;
- 36 Warp Energy and Willpower cards;
- 5 detailed, double-sided board tiles representing the buildings of Prospero;
- 24 dice – an assortment of D6, D8, D10 and D12’s;
- A transfer sheet.
A whole host of bits and pieces that match up with the kind of components we saw in Betrayal At Calth but with a few more polyhedron dice thrown into the mix too.
But, who wants to look at the cardboard stuff when we have nice models!
Heresy Era Heroes
Geigor Fell-Hand is leading the way for the Space Wolves with his cruel-looking Lighting Claw and bolter at his side. I love that they've gone the whole hog here and really shown off the extra adornment around the Space Wolves, speaking to their Barbarian background.
By comparison, we have the more measured and thoughtful looking Ahriman who is desperately trying to keep the secrets of the Thousand Sons from the claws of the Space Wolves.
Some great models once again and showing off what they can do with their plastic. I think Geigor is the better of the two but I reckon a lot of people are loving the look of Ahriman.
A Wall Of Iron
Backing each of these forces up are thirty MK III Space Marines in their 'Iron' Power Armour. The split gives you ten Space Wolves and the other twenty are to be used for the Thousand Sons.
The Thousand Sons are then backed up by some Tartaros Terminators who are going to be defending their city to the death.
While this might end up being a little unevenly matched the Space Wolves have some amazing reinforcements on the way. Coming to their aid are the Custodes...
...and the Sisters Of Silence. With all of this psychic energy leaping around it pays to have some folks to nullify the effects of its power.
Now those are some amazing looking warrior women. I love those big greatswords that will be smashing into power armour and cutting low their foes.
There are all manner of exciting prospects on offer here but it's nice to see Games Workshop telling another story from the Horus Heresy in boxed game form.

Well much like the Betrayal at Calth this looks like a very good value boxed game. If anything I’d say this is better value, you get the same 30 marines and two characters but the Sisters of Silence and the Custodes in my opinion give a lot than the single Contemptor Dread. Really nice sculpts too!

(yeah, probably there is some trumped up reason for this, like them needing bare heads to use their psychic thingamabobs, or breathing through their foreheadskins, whatever. Still looks ridiculous to the uninitiated)
There does not need to be a reason (though there is one of course)… it’s a design aesthetic in a fictional universe.
Plus soldiers in the modern era of the real world have not worn head protection (if at all) that is in any way adequate in stopping a bullet to the head (helmets are largely worn to ensure protection against other forms of trauma). I wonder if people find that even more ridiculous considering it’s real…..maybe they snidely comment on WW2 miniatures pages about how ridiculous they look in there lack of boomheadshot protection?
@lukeabberley Your comment makes no sense? WW2 minis are based on historical fact, they dont tend to go around inventing new uniforms and equipment and designing WW2 units. I have literally no idea why you would choose to use this as a comparison haha
You have missed my point entirely; i was not making a direct comparison between the fictional and ‘historical fact’ of various model ranges. I have no idea how you managed to extrapolate that really as i assumed my point was pretty clear; but just for the record: My point was concerning the idea, presented by maledrakh, that military dress not including a helmet that gave adequate boomheadshot protection against bullets was something ‘unrealistic’ to express in entirely fictional miniature design aesthetic, and was worthy of ridicule; i disagreed based on two points: 1. Plenty of Space Marines don’t wear helmets – case in point Geigor Fell-Hand.
Along with plenty of models in loads of games. Not just 40k
Pretty common choice within multiple games surely? Minis with faces are naturally more individual and real than those without, hence it makes sense to create at least some of a squad or force as being helmetless (or whatever the equivalent is).
Also, far from the only, or most, unrealistic thing about 40k or wargaming in general 😉 I mean, if you can get past the thunder hammers and chain swords, bare heads are nothing!

It’s nice to see the kits be designed for after this game release. As in it’s a multi option kit per squad. So they can sell them after as proper squad kits without them being static posed for a boxed game. This may mark the return of the Sisters of Battle at least for 30K.
All those look great but to me Custodes and Sisters of Silence stand out from those just because those are not marines.
I know where your coming, even as a fan of the universe they do become tiresome sometimes.
Am definitely gonna get a small sisters of silence army. Nice to finally see GW produce it’s first plastic female humans for 40k. I hope Sororitas come next year.
I really love these boxes but I do have a small problem with it, which not so much with what is show more how it is released. See I want to be able to buy a lot these things individually. I want to get access to those should pads from the custodies so I can make shoulder pads for my Adptus Arbites. I want the sister models because I think they are just great models, and could be used as classic fantasy models, the armoured warrior woman. With actual armour and not a bikini. Almost certainly everything will be released as separate boxes, just like Calth. Based on no evidence, i would guess they would be out by Christmas given the likely popularity of the contents.
Yeah, I have to agree in that I like the look of the game, but I’d be hard pressed to justify it at a price point that maintained parity with other parts of the world, let alone when it’s jacked up by an extra $70
Yeah @zethnar the jack up in the price is what gets me, when I could order it from the mother country and get it shipped here cheaper than buying it from the shop, and that is still ordering it retail from over there something is wrong. Now don’t get me wrong I think having shops over here has to have costs and all of that, but I am sorta sick of the Aussies getting the shaft when it comes to games (video games too especially video games) for the longest time, and why? Another departure from the trusty D6? GW really are broadening their horizons.
As for the set, looks great overall but I’m disappointed with the Custodes. Those swords look ridiculous, even by normal heroic standards.

@caladors of course they will be selling the sisters separately in a few months, but the best option with these sets is to take what you want and sell the balance for parts, I think even by taking out the sisters and the customs you ought to get close to cost on selling the balance. I know a lot of people did this with Calth and made decent £.
I am not as sure because the HH wasn’t sold separately I hope it is… but I don’t know if it will be… in my life I have learned that hope isn’t a great strategy ha ha.

That said you would have no issue flogging the marines or the game tiles and sundries…
Not that I am aware of @nakchak but I may not keep my head close to the ground as I used to, I mean really I only barely noticed that my team the genestealer cult had come out. So you may very well be right, but I may erroneously gauge my thoughts off what is for sale off what is in the store. For the most part we are aloud to have everything you have just with a 10 to 20% bump in price.

You’re right. If you have to buy the contents of these boxes separately, you will pay (more than) double.
It is more interesting to buy the game, maybe with somebody else or putting the things you don’t need up for sale.
This is so sweet and the game sounds pretty fun too. The only thing is I hope I get my Dropfleet Commander pledge before I get my 2 boxes of this as I’m afraid Droopfleet will just go into the closet if I can’t get it to the Hobby Table before I start my 30k Thousand Sons.
With games that introduced plastic Mk IV and Mk III squads, I’m hoping for Mk VI tactical marines in the near future.
I don’t like the Sisters of silence. They don’t look “40k” to me.
But then they aren’t meant too – they’re supposed to look “30K”! 😉
And yeah, Mk VI would be lovely… I’d happily buy boxes of beakies!
Let’s hope for an Alpha Legion vs Raven Guard set at some point. That’d have beakies galore. I reckon the next one will be Battle for Phall though. Fists vs Iron Warriors and plastic MK2 armour.

A local Dutch webshop has the box at 106 Euro for preorder instead of the 125 Euro that GW webshop has it listed at.
