Fighting creepy almost dead guys in boxes, yes Dreadnoughts

So Darrell has a wee talk about what to watch out for when going toe to toe with them.
Me I think Dreadnoughts are bad ass metal monsters that chomp my Tau army to bits in close combat, so I stay well away from them shouting “where’s my Rail Gun”!

I have recently come to enjoy dreadnoughts in my armies. In some of my armies they have replaced some of my tanks because they can move 6″ & fire all weapons and never get hit on the rear armor when assaulted. In my blood angels army I almost always take at least one furioso for assaulting and one regular dreadnought for anti tank.
Didn’t know about rear armour, but I have two Deff Dreads in my army anyway. Use trukks to distract the enemy, and march up to their line and nom their way through.
Oh, and NOT-DEDS IN METAL BOCKSES ARE DEFINATELY CREEPY!
Our enemy hide in MHETALE BHUWKES!
My friend uses a Venerable with Plasma Cannon to great affect. It can take out Marines and light Vehicles quite easily and can bog down large mobs of troops such as Orks.
Very effective against me, since I run Orks and Blood Angels. -.-
I LOVE Furioso dreads with BloodTalyons! It’ll just chew through anything that gets in it’s way. It’s like a meat grinder with a pissed off atitude!
I am loving Bjorn the Fell Handed. Loads of points, but in a simple all out battle. Great fun.
What do you think about Chaos Dreadnoughts?
Are they worth the risk of the Crazed rule?
They are never gonna let you down, but they aint going to give you up either
They will, however, run around and hurt you… Badly.
Although beardies will cry, they will shoot him up and make you say goodbye
Rick Astley for the win.
I have two dreads in my army. And my friends hate having to deal with them.
Haha, a rickrolling dreadnought? Scary!
I like dreadnoughts in general, though tabletop performance has never been that important to me.
There was one game however, that will stick with me for ages, just because of the look on my mate’s face when I put down my dreadnought… then my ironclad… then my venerable… then my master of the forge… then another dreadnought. He wasn’t expecting that, haha!
That’s almost as bad as my tank that goes in playing the He-Man version of “What’s Up” by 4nonblondes.
I like to run 2 dreads and 2 defilers in my Black Legion, walkers are always fun.
I alsways encounter a dread in a droppod with multi-melta wich, if it doen’t miss, kills one of my tanks and than runs into another a turn later. very frustrating >.<
tanks-heavy imperial guards hates it,especially when i field 2 of these heavy metal mavels….
*evil laughs,then cough*

I must say i’m a huge fan of dreadnoughts (owning 4…)
My best memory was from a game against an ork player,I dropped a drpop-pod with one in it ,so the ork player brought both his 2 man(orks?) squad of deffkoptas with rokkits nearby it,and only managed to get the close-combat arm off,so my dread’ charged in the turn after, getting both squads and tiying them down for the entire game as,even with their powa klaws-like weapons the koptas are only str6 when not charging so 6s followed by 6s was the minimum to get glancing hits on it….eventually the dread killed one and won the combat and made them flee off the board, now next project is to make myself a master of the forge
ThePetitBilly,dreaming of dreadnoughts
MC Hammer, I love it.
Dreadnoughts just look cool. That’s enough for me.I love the fluff and i love the models. They look good on the table.
a buddy of mine and i wher play the black reach box and hie killd all 3 coppter erly in the game. thus leving hes dred not untuch able . but how do it woke when a sm dred not gos agest a ork def dred. and how coud i equip the def dred to to best handl a sm army.
shood i go with 3 more def coppters ?
people at my club dont beleive me that u dont hit rear armor when immobolized. i used a sentinel not a drednought but the guys at our club keep going its alwaysa been like and when immobolized u always hit rear armor. is thier a page in the rule book that pecifies that. i couldnt find it pleaee help me.im being force to let them hit my rear armor cause they all agree with it.
What you’re looking for is the walkers in assaults section (pg 73 of the mini rulebook) “models hitting a walker in close combat always roll for penetration against it’s front armor” Your friends are wrong, it says nothing about hitting rear armor when immobilized.
thank u sooooooo much. =D
Yep, it’s something really bad when others always want to hit your rear armor 😉
its in the section bout assaulting walkers. it states that when u assault a walker u r always hitting the front armour regardless if its immobilized or not. its only against tanks do u hit rear armour. and when it is immobilized u automatically hit. if ur using a grenade against a walker u have to roll a 6 no matter wat even if the walker is immobilized. trust me i go up against 2 space wolf dreadnoughts.
Darrell is the coolest guy ive ever seen. his accent is BRILLIANT
favorite darrel quote:
“THE RESERVES ER DEAD” – Darrell talking about parking a vehicle on a monoliths door turn two
carnifex + crushing claws = dead dreadnought
Not only do I agree, but carnifex + crushing claws x3 = everything dead
Uh-oh, are you giving us a preview of the finished table from GameScape there? Looks like it. 😉 Now I DEFINITELY want to watch more of that.
And Dreadnoughts: Love ’em, but, they totally depend on how much terrain you play with. Got friends who love terrain? They’re great. But a wide-open field and, well, they can’t do much but light off a couple Lascannons and Missiles before they get cracked open.
Dreds are scary, sure – but I don’t really fear them (a tau player) because if they fall in a drop pod they can kill one unit/vehicle and then usually die. If a dread is not in drop pod it usually does a whole lot of nothing to my guys.
I love Dreads…love them. I know so many are down on them, but on the table it’s hard to see why that is. They’re pretty effective at either killing stuff or at distracting your opponent for a round or two of fire. Either way, for me they’re worth the points.
They also look bad@$$
Idk i have never played against a dread, but with my ork army I always field a mob of Killa Kans, since they are better at shooting than most my army. Also i agree with sgpunk, a carnifex or trygon will eat a dread for breakfest.
i just wish they left the lighting claw on Bjorn the Fellhanded..
I think that Dreads have thier uses on the battle field, both close combat and ranged, but what really gets me is the fluff and the look of the Dread itself. I own the old Venerable Space Wolf Dread and personally I think it is one of the most impressive models I own at this point.
“For Russ, For the Emporor!”
The front armour always in melee is certainly useful, but I tend to just load up on missiles and lascannons to try and take down some enemy armour early one.
I love dreads! Even if theyre a bit pricey, theyre just so class. Big mad metal puppies running and killing everyone in sight!
They attract a lot of attention so I like to take 2. One to assault and one to support.
my friend was playing an assault guard army at a local tournament and came across a all dreadnought droppod army. my friend with his two thirty man guard squads blew up 6 dreads in close combat. i was baffled until he told me all of his sargents and commissars had melta bombs and a preist to boot letting him re-roll all of those melta abombs it was nasty. it just goes to show you another cheesy thing the guard codex and pump out
my freind always plays his dreadnought down the side of the board so i just send a squad of gene stealers in with their rending claws and they mange 2 take it down in the first round of assult so in my opinion there not that good.
I love my furioso dreadnoughts they have front armour 13 and with the blood talons they are almost unbeatable in combat and can roll through squads of ork boys or tau or elder or whatever I’v had great luck
I run 6 dreadnoughts in my normal army. 3 reg 2 ven 1 iron it was fun!
scratch that 3 reg 2 iron and 1 ven
The Ironclad is awesome, I played a 2k points match , and my mate asked if he could field a shadowstorm to make up the points, it took two turns to destroy my Land Raider, but my Ironclad which i had dropped in was right behind it, and assaulted it. so i got the 4 attacks , all hit as it the shadowstorm didnt move, and of course all penetrated. I rolled two sixes on the damage so catastrophic explosion. The explosion was 13 inches, and wiped out a large part of his guard force…
So one 175 point dread, killed around 700 points in one assault phase…
in my 1750 points ultramarine army I use 2 blackreach dreadnaughts, multimelta and power fist with storm bolter, and I think they are worth the points in this edition, two dreadnaughts and 3 vindicators, so far they have taken and defeated a few apponents.. and as for hitting the back armour you have to cause 2 immobolised results against it, the first immobolises the legs and the second immobilises the body,,
Thank you for explaining it clearly that back armor isnt hit on an immobolized dread, My local gaming club and I were split on the matter.
