GW Show Off Better Images Of Warhammer Quest Silver Tower Heroes
May 11, 2016 by brennon
Games Workshop went against the grain this week by showing off proper preview photos of the heroes that you'll be getting in Warhammer Quest: Silver Tower which is going to be available in around two weeks. See what you think of them below starting with the Knight Questor...
Here we have the new icon of 'Warhammer' stepping forth to leads these folks through the Silver Tower to step a horrifying army of daemons. His allies though are looking just as good and I think a lot of people like the Darkoath Chieftain.
It's a shame that a barbarian like this is in such a neutral pose. It would have been good to see him swinging that sword around or flinging that axe about. I think its a lost opportunity to have him looking more dynamic.
The Exclesior Warpriest is joining the fight alongside his Gryph Hound. It's nice that we're now seeing some more of the humans that inhabit their new take on the Warhammer world.
I can imagine this fellow having a bit of a support role in the game and aiding his friends in combat.
Next up we're going short and angry with the Fyreslayer Doomseeker. Armed with a rather cruel looking hooked blade and that runic axe he will be getting stuck into the fighting against some of your bigger foes.
As well as that we have some Aelfs with the Mistweaver Saih who is going to be your spellcaster in the game. It looks like the influence of the Dark Elves has spread throughout this new faction in Age of Sigmar. A nice dynamic looking wizard.
Last but not least we have the glass cannon from the group with the Tenebrael Shard.
Once again we're seeing the influence of the Dark Elves throughout the model and it's interesting to see who the Knight Questor is choosing to hang out with. The same goes for the Excelsior Warpriest!
All of these heroes are going to be usable within your regular games of Age of Sigmar too so this falls into that nice 'collectors urge' that we've talked about in the past where you could potentially see rules going back and forth between Warhammer Quest allowing you to use your collection in both games.
What do you think of the heroes?

Amazing! NOW LET ME SEE THE BADDIES!!!
The chieftain is nicely old school. I hear the warchief is retiring tomorrow as he’s too old for this ****, just needs to clear out this one last dungeon first…
MENDOZAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

*warpriest not warchief.
Those look great. Not a fan of the Dwarf’s weapon in his right hand, looks like a multi-tool rather than something dangerous. I’d probably replace it with another axe.
Sometimes treasure comes in cans and bottles rather than chests.
No one else thought to bring a can/bottle opener, did they?
I have had no interest in AoS – maybe because the new stuff looked ‘overpowered’
but these figures look awesome and have real character – especially the noble-savage barbarian and the Meroe style Warpriest
wonder will his Gryphon-hound have Scooby Doo issues 🙂
might swap-out the Fyreslayer for the madder two-axe ‘Come at me bro’ model 🙂
Still thy tongue and relieve me of the burden of my wealth
I love that excelsior priest!
he will be brilliant to paint
GW did dark skin tone tutorials for some of the old metal Catachan Jungle Fighters – but that was a long time ago…
(I think the old metal Catachan melta-gunner was inspired by the Predator film – Rescue Team)
I like most of these models besides the two Aelf models. The chieftain and the war priest are my two favorites.
The Barbarian – Dothraki is huge – is this why the rumours said Ogre hero?
I might swap out that Gold Questor for the old plastic Templar from Talisman – if the scale is good he will look awesome next to the Excelsior Priest 🙂
The chieftain, warpriest and elves are very nice. The Knight is a nice looking model but still not my cup of tea. The Fireslayer will be replaced with a classic model for sure. Still, I’m really quite excited by this release. Good on you GW.
Photos of a big new release leak online and instead of sending out C&D letters, GW respond by releasing some better photos.
Things may well be changing for the better after all 😀
That’s a bloody good point!
I know…
I remember some guy saying that before…
Think of the poor GW lawyers, no work for them 🙁
Here, here!
Alright boys, we’ll clear out Tzeentch’s Silver Tower and then we’ll hit the gym. But first, let’s hit the gym.
a) The Conan ‘Wheel of Pain’ workout
b) Swigging Heroquest ‘Potions of Strength’ – “You find a small purple flask. You can drink this strange smelling liquid at any time…”
I’ve never been a fan of the barbarian look (love me some Conan but that’s my limit) but I will say that the Chieftain looks pretty good, if a little boring. The standout is the Warrior Priest though (strangely enough, one of my favourite characters from my old Empire army!). Not a fan of any of the others though. They seem to have that modern GW too-much-detail-but-not-a-lot-of-soul vibe.
Still, fair play to GW for the previews. Now they just need to give people a little more notice than two weeks when products are coming out. My local store was placed in the unfortunate position of having to advertise Death From the Skies before the official GW announcement because GW Sales were demanding pre-order numbers! How he was supposed to get those pre-order numbers when he wasn’t supposed to tell his customers that things were available to pre-order I’ll never know. The mind boggles!
Having liked exactly two AoS minis before this: I like em. I actually like em.
Shiny – Hope the gameplay matches it!
As you say the Chieftain is too static and a missed opportunity but rest look good
yeah, how can he Leeroy Jenkins?
Really hoping some forms of the old Roleplay book is present in some forms, though the tzeentch focus doesn’t fill me with hope that we’ll get masses of tables for generating higher level encounters
I could see GW releasing a book like that at some point, they seem to love their books these days.
The Exclesior Warpriest is the one that I would be interested in painting
Liking this, Stormcast still boring but the other stuff looks great
Looks more like the influence of Dark Eldar than Dark Elves…
the most important part about this is not the mini’s but the fact that GW have actually done something we didn’t expect and are actually engaging with the outside world to the extent of showing off previews of a new product early. that’s the real story here.
i’m really liking the new GW that is starting to appear!!!
Nice heroes, but it will depend a lot on the enemy miniatures, too.
From those Chieftain is only one that I like. Others don’t have any appeal to me.
Meh – 50/50. The Questor is far and away the worst “fantasy” figure I have seen. I was hoping this would be my one GW purchase (since about three years ago), but they really seem to have blown it already. Maybe the “evil” figures will turn it around, but honestly, underwhelmed is not even close to how I feel. Looks like I’ll have to shell out 3 or 4 times the cost to get the original game. . . .
He’s a Sigmarine, no worse than the rest of his kind.
Which yes, means that he is a really bad mini.
The worst fantasy figure you’ve ever seen. Really? Worst one ever? Worse than this?
I guess you must have played a different version of Warhammer Quest to me. I have some fond memories of Warhammer Quest but many of the actual miniatures were terrible, especially the monsters.
He is a standard golden thingy – not a look I like but they have gone AoS so that is what your going to get aesthetically.
I was playing Quest last year – using a mix of original and newer minis. They were “of their time” – I think that’s the best way to put it. Having said that, I still prefer the characters – maybe that’s a nostalgia thing. Some of the monsters do look *really* dated now though.
My original plan was to possibly replace the characters with the Dungeon Saga Legendary heroes (which strangely I do like) – but this new release has mixed the lineup somewhat making that more problematic – but still an option to a degree – although the Darkoath Chieftain would certainly stay. He looks pretty mean.
Mixing the lineup around may be a good thing – but until we get the game and see what (if any) changes they have made to the rules, we won’t know. Somehow I suspect it will bear little resemblance to the game I know, but that’s not to say it won’t be a great game.
As for the sigmarine – maybe I should have been more clear – worst of the current GW fantasy range I have seen. Since I have pretty much given up on GW, I have not kept up to date with every release, so I’m sure others will have a different opinion, and possibly seen something I missed.
Finally, I’m not a GW hater, just a disillusioned former GW gamer. I don’t want to bash GW, but sometimes I think they are giving me a huge stick and verbally abusing my family. I really hope they get this one right. They have to get it right. Please, be right . . . .
I just googled the original Warhammer Quest characters – it’s definitely nostalgia!
the metal Chaos Warrior had a giant cartoon axe for hooking the sleeves of players reaching across the table
he fell over all the time 🙁
the model was like a lead fishing weight 🙂
Here is a video for those suffering from Hero Quest nostalgia 🙂

yeah, it will be interesting to see what heroes get swapped into the game by different players –
Talisman had dozens of Warhammer Heroes – i would swap that Sigmarine for a forgeworld chaos dwarf
I would certainly use the Noble. Or the pit fighter. I have both (every couple of years we have a campaign for a few months). I also have the chaos Warrior – no falling issues for me – but certainly does have a rather large axe. Still, it could be worse – he could be in power armour . . . .
Darkoath was in mad max two I think.
We’ll have to wait for the 360 view. If he has the ass cut out of his pants he was definitely in mad max 2 🙂
Barbarian is the pick of the bunch for me, Priest is nice. New look of the elves is not to my taste. Slayer is really missing the mark for me.
yeah, he looks more like cousin Itt with an axe …
By the time Warhammer Quest came out GW was in its Red Phase and the artwork and miniatures had become very cartoonish…
Advanced HeroQuest is an underrated product – it still had that gritty look from classic fantasy.
look at the beat-up knight –
Preferred Advanced Heroquest to Warhammer Quest – far better rule set in my view
Here is a reff to the painter:

These new AoS heroes are going to look quite mute next to the colour-riot Teezentch miniatures?
Usually it is the the dungeon monsters that are dull – orcs/ skeletons/ skavens?
Nice to see good pictures, and even nice to see GW posting them!
The models all seem up to their usual standard. I like the Questor a lot – one of the nicest Stormcast figures I’ve seen to date, although I’m not that interested in the new setting.
The barbarian is a nice sculpt; the priest… I’m finding it hard to judge or like him without knowing anything about the culture he’s supposed to be based in. At the moment he looks a bit ‘generic fantasy’ to me. I hate the dwarf, but then I think the concept for the fireslayers is awful, so it’s nothing about this sculpt in particular.
The elves both look pretty good. Although again, it’s hard to connect with them without knowing how they relate to the societies they’re supposed to come from.
So far this look good. Has an old school vibe with it.
The minis are OK, in the same way that the current GW range is OK (imo). The original heroes were “of theit time” I wasn’t gob-smacked by them then, and back then I was underwhelmed by the monsters.
But this game was never about the mini’s, it was all about the quest. For me it was all about making quests, maps and gameplay.
Sorry, you’re going to have to go back in time and argue with 7 year old me with regards to the appeal of the old Heroquest.
At the end of every week, if I’d been a good boy, my dad would take me to the old departmental shop, and down to the basement where the toy section was (how rare are these now eh? Thankfully this shop still exists and still has an awesome toy department), and part of that routine would involve me going to find the heroquest (or whatever it was called) box and just looking at the back at all the cool looking mini’s.
I could see it was a game, but the “dream” was to just own the mini’s and go “clash, ching, arghhhh…”
Good times; gentle times.
there were so many quests in that wee booklet…
I think Heroquest in the US was aimed at college students because the D&D scene was big in their Universities ???
I’m glad GW has put ‘bad’ characters as heroes
Hey, they are going to play as a team – right?
…its like having a Witch Hunter and Magic User in the same party?
It looks like the Tabletop Simulator ‘game’ has an add-on for Heroquest :

Better. They seem less chubby than the models that have come before for AoS… a good sign. Still too busy, but some seem to be tuned down a little. Is this going to be part of a boxed set, or are they going to be $30 singles?
Would of been nice if there was at least one female Hero. My niece usually always picks a female character as she can relate to it in a way.
I thought at least one of the Aelfs was female. The Stormcast is pretty much gender neutral and I guess you could, at a push, say the Fyreslayer was female (although beard aside the physique looks more masculine)
both the fyreslyer and at least one of the ælfs might be female
