Bonus post: game on, those who are about to die salute you!
It’s the end of day three and it’s time for a game, my pick for the evening is a gladiatorial battle.
Bonus post: we who are about to die part 2
Game over man. This was an absolute blast, the game keeps you engaged and having fun, we played in teams of three and picked our titans of the arena.
two highlights of the game:
1. A rather ridiculous die roll.
2. The addition of some fake blood as players died.

Bonus Post: Blood & Valor - Round Breakdown

Heyyyyyyy! Happy Saturday!
Thanks for checking us out! We’re but humble, lost circus performers … trying to fill in for the Weekender.
@avernos apologizes for the lack of Burrows & Badgers.
It’s the Weekender Hobby Live Blog!
(see what I did there ?)
I plan to hobby my butt off today and stay glued to this Blog to view/watch the articles roll in.
(oh, and I’m slow smoking ribs today as well). Serious hobby projects work up an appetite)
Those ribs sound good! :p
Wish you guys had more coverage on the WWI game from Firelock as well as where they are now with Oak and Iron. I know you had a post and video for day 1, but that seemed to gloss over things.
We got you covered on the Blood & Valor (Firelock WW1). One of the later videos in Blog part 2 is a whole turn sequence play through.
I would like a video/more coverage of Black Sun as tempted by the KS
This is seconded – Tour of Darkness on the tabletop is just to good to miss, backing already but a review may make me spend more (ha ha ha, as if I had the funds)
We were kinda sticking to historical tables? I photographed the Black Sun table and put up a post on it because my friend @cbrenner was playing it. Hopefully he can provide some insight into how the game played?
The game played well. Basics were easy to pick up. Even though it is I go U go you roll a d6 to see who is able to activate. Ranged combat can be deadly. Definitely want to use cover. Wish I had an opportunity for close combat but ran out of time. The US M79’s were effective if you bunched up. Fun game even with 7 or 8 just learning.
Awesome @cbrenner – thanks for the AAR! 🙂
@avernos @oriskany There is s 6mm modern game started an hour ago on table HR 73 that looks interesting
We did look for it, @torros – did not see it. We had some cancellations and they moved some tables around. That schedule and map they provided became obsolete VERY quickly.
No worries . I only noticed it because they posted on Facebook. The game might have been over by the time I posted
Was this the one with the oil rig? It was the only modern game I saw we didn’t get to BESIDES the Team Yankee tournament.
I would like to see more medieval, dark age, Roman, ancients kind of stuff if that’s possible.
I do have some photo galleries of “To The Strongest” I can put up in a Bonus Post. 😀
Meanwhile, did you see us talk about the Romans vs. Irish tables (two posts, actually), @avernos with Clash of Spears (twice) and Justin with “We Who are About to Die?”
We didn’t want this to turn into a all WW2-fest, we really tried to hit every genre that was represented, IF the table looked good.
Warhammer ancients was also featured.
I was just wondering if there was more. Thanks for covering what you could.
No worries. We put up some 6mm “To the Strongest” Romans at the very end of Part 2. 🙂
I really need to goto Historicon one of these years.
Apparently this was the first year at a new venue. The old one wasn’t very good, everyone seemed happy with this one.
Digging through tons of material makes me a happy man today 🙂
Got an operational-level wargame called “Poland Defiant” – the whole 1939 campaign on one table. (Revolution Games)
Thanks for all the positive feedback on the coverage, everyone! We really tried to get a little of everything … Now … There were a COUPLE tables we legit missed and I wish we could have gotten. There was a 54mm tank battle … yes, 54mm TANKS … Okay, like four tanks, but still … but by the time we reached them they were taking the table down. The “Eat Hitler” table would have been great just for a laugh – Hitler invents a time machine in his bunker to try to re-do World War II … screws it up,… Read more »
Great coverage guys. Fantastic getting to meet and talk with @dignity, @oriskany and @avernos. Nice to see and hear about games and gamers at my reasonably local convention. I hope you all get a chance to come back.
I would certainly love to come back next year @cbrenner .
