As part of Guild Ball Week, we are premiering the first season of our new show dedicated to the game called Proving Grounds. In this first episode, Justin takes part in a Butchers Vs Fishermen training match with Bryce from Steamforged Games.

Justin takes charge of the Fishermen's Guild, a team more focused on scoring goals than their fierce rivals, the Butcher's Guild, who'd rather spill some blood on the pitch.
As he normally likes to get up close and personal himself will Justin be able to get used to a new way of playing and snatch a win?

Nice to see two teams of such polar opposites go up against each other, I am definately more a Butchers style player. Nice video guys.

That was a really good game to watch. Lots of damage taken by the fishermen but really good movement of the ball to get the win. Plus the dice gods were definately on his side.
Cool demo game. I found this a bit easier to follow than the previous one.
I would definitely choose the fishermen. That otter is amazing. 🙂
So glad you showed this, as I’ve used the fishermen before and was impressed with the game but didn’t get any models, (but back then they only had 4 models, on this team).
Seeing them played again, makes me think of getting the gamer box set.

Scorey team vs murdery team. A classic match-up in these games. And “score before I run out of players” a classic strategy.

I definitely need to check out the fishermen now. That initial play from the otter immediately put me in mind of my Skaven days 😉

I have been interested in this game for a while now. Good to see it getting so much screenplay now.
Great game, with a Salt goal so always good. Butchers are my first love but really want to get fish on the table, especially with Corsair. Biggest strength and wallet hazard is how a new guild is a fresh experience, or even a fresh player can radically alter what a team does.
Not to be that guy but a few error checks – turn after score Justin should have got an influence for the goal for the rest of the game. Tooled up as of season 3 couldn’t be placed on Boar as he is not same guild as Rage. Rage doesn’t get bonus damage on Ox due to be maverick and different guild. Boiler also causes bleed on damage.
Tactically I would have picked differently -Tenderiser could have knocked down Shark on the counter, no momentum but it would have neutered the rest of his activation. If he had also gone before Boar he with luck could have knocked down Shark stopping the defensive and counter. However it’s a game with so many variables that there is not necessarily always ‘right’ choices. Also for a demo the knockdown would have been less fun and a little mean, so good on Bryce.

I’ve tried to keep away from Guild ball . But watching the demos is realy tempting me to jump right in . Realy like the look of the Fishermen.
This is what I’ve really been looking forward to: seeing the game in action!

Best way and it doesn’t give you any major disadvantage in Guildball

Thanks for the game demo! I really liked the combinations … I wonder if Angel could have probably scored on her activation instead of passing backwards to Jac? It worked out fine, as Justin was able to pass the ball around to Shark for the goal… also was good to see more models activate!!! Playing to 8 would be rough if the Fishermen score twice before the 2nd activation in turn 2!!!! lol #don’t forget loved creature

I loved the Otter Goal reminded me a lot of BB how I would chain the ball up the pitch to score.
After the first Demo game I was still on the fence over this game, now I am so far leaning towards it I am almost falling into it
This game was great; some really good plays from Justin. The otter goal was a brilliant opener especially combined with shutting the butchers down on turn one with Shark.
Another really fun game to watch. Thoroughly enjoying these.

Looks like a stereotypical pro vs human game. I will say that the factions look way more adaptable than that, but it’s good to know the play style you can expect.
I already have a fishermen team this might inspire Mr to paint them.
there is a lot of details and skills to remember, and forgeting any can cost you game?if that the case I dont like that.
The more demo matches I watch, the more interested I am.

Really enjoyed both sides, but I think it would have to be the fishermen out of these two for me.
Really great game to watch. Fortunate plan coming together of Justin was funny to see. I like the diversity between the guilds too. Different playstyle, bring on the next matches and guilds to watch 😀

As a regular butchers player, I should probably switch to the fish one day to see how the other half live.
I love both these teams. It was difficult to pick a side.

Good game, things really do happen quickly in guild ball
That was a pretty good look into the game play, just need to get into the terms used and how things work but looks like a reasonable easy gameplay, but there are a lot of abilities and special rules that will take some time to get used to by the looks of it. Overall I think this is a great game and would like to get into it.
Would you look at that, the “Otter” only went and scored a touch down………….Then got put down, Justin what where you thinking of. You should off kept him out of harms way, ready to score another touch down.
I like the way Fisher Guild play, but it`s still the “Brewers” for me.
