Does this work for anybody?
Nope, access denied….FAIL
nope not working for me either
Damn I was saving this until later, looks like much later now
Anyone got Warrens home number phone him up and tell him, sure he won’t mind.
Stream not found error?
Pointing at an old location on cloudfront?
I’m guessing Justin uploaded it, made a change, and uploaded it again, and this points at the original and now removed file…
Only backstager’s can see the comments, so I feel justified.
The URL in flowplayer has SD twice on the end, before the .m4v. Given how locked-down cloudfront it, I don’t believe knowing this URL would let anyone access any other videos.
Sorry folks, will be fixed today.
Fixed, thanks @tinbane for the heads up.
No worries, mate 🙂
A welcome return for The Designer’s Studio, thoroughly enjoyed this. I enjoy hearing about the nuts and bolts of designing a minis game and bringing it to market. Was the decision to split the video into multiple parts taken after it was filmed? If it’s going to be a regular occurance with future TDS videos it might be worth building natural breaks into the interview. I realise the interview is both over and has more to come but if it wasn’t covered and you get a chance to interview Gavin in future, I’d be very interested in hearing his experiences of running crowdfunding campaigns. I backed the Indiegogo one and got the impression from his updates that it wasn’t an entirely positive experience. It’d be interesting to hear about what he’s learned and how he’s applied it.
Can I be the first person to say that Gavin is talking about 4th ed WFB 😉
@redben Building natural breaks into videos is a complex issue but one we have been dipping into over the previous few months.
On the surface it shouldn’t be very complex to do, but its one of those ‘processes’ that when we implement it we want to implement it across the board, and unfortunately while it keeps cropping up almost every other week in team meetings, the realities of trying to get content out and address the other priorities we are working on, it’s one that gets the ‘ok its important, but we don’t have time to deal with the ramifications of it just now’
To put this into context, it’s all based around the continuous improvement (program) we have implemented since the move. (I use the word program very loosely here in that we are a little too small and under resourced for it to be a program of any substance! but we are trying to push the quality levels each and every week)
It’s boiling down to, how do we approach the creation process of shows. Do we start implementing some of the rigid aspects of production that you would find on TV (traditional) or do we discount it and follow more new media aspects because Internet is our primary distribution method.
So far myself and @lloyd just haven’t had the time to nail down what our final goal is for this.
Natural breaks would be something that would be a part of that, but do we time them to coincide with the standards set by television networks (This would suit our possible objective of taking more content onto TV) but delivery via internet can facilitate them differently, (and there is much more thought to be put into show lengths) as well as all the other juicy things we can do with interactions etc on internet delivered content.
Anyway thanks for bringing this up as its a topic very close to my heart at the moment (as you probably can tell lol) 🙂
To answer the original question, the decision to split the show was more to do with being able to meet a Thursday night deadline … which was missed due to a silly technical error anyway 🙁
Part two is fascinating and does talk about crowd funding 😉
I appreciate that natural breaks are one of those things that seem straightforward but are difficult to implement. It might be best to not stick to TV timings to begin with. That way if the content begins to be produced with an eye to TV it’s just a case of introducing tight scheduling to a practice you’re already doing.
“From the mind of a nutter” Wonderful endorsement. 🙂
You should have that printed on the box set.
The dice mechanic sounds fun. I think I’m more of a player who would go with the flow instead of trying to work out the odds. A good game for a Jedi maybe.
I truly love these installements. Can we get to the sculptors at some point just for a one off or two…its just that Ive no idea how this comes about in the industry and the verry first thing I judge a game by is the minis, verry much like all of us I suspect. Judging a book by its cover has, mainly, served me well when it comes to comic books but then the profile of the artist is so huge in comparrison to the sculptor of wargame minis. Why is this Oh Sage like Warren…please shed some light into this Gollum infested cave for me wiil ya?
Looking forward to part two; I love these kinds of videos, hearing about the thought processes behind games; really interesting stuff. 🙂
The best part was when he talked about not liking to paint or play in tournaments. This guy gets me and I will be trying out his games for just these reasons!
