After Action Report – English VS Natives [Blood & Plunder Week]
October 2, 2018 by dignity
Justin sits down with Mike and Kai from Firelock Games to go over the tactics used in their Blood & Plunder game between the English and Natives.
The guys talk about the changes made in bow combat in regards to their game and how players might best organise and direct their forces if a component is made up of bows. Mike and Kai also get to show off some of the new units coming with the expansion.
How would you best use the newly reworked bow units?
Which faction will you be playing as?

Great looking galleon
Quickly turning into my favorite game, just a shame I’m terrible at it 😀
Looks great!
Great game to watch
Oh cool, the creators are local to me
Got the Natives in the 2nd kickstarter.. still painting them though. Looking forward to fielding them.. though I see the tactic for the English of 1/2 firing and with the sound of thunder effect them being more effective that way maybe.. savng actions but still loading on fatigue
This game is starting to develop into a very interesting game and I am loving the new troop types especially the European Ground forces.
Those uniformed soldiers are gonna look funny next to my pirate… ahem privateers.
yohoyohooo
This is now my favorite game of all time. I love how hard they work on making it better!
I like the strategy of shooting a lot of arrows to cause fatigue and then running in to finish them.
Looks like a great game. Can’t wait to get started.
Wonderful native figures.
The expansion is great, Natives and European give a totally different feel that the original factions (Spanish, French, English, Unaligned). Can’t wait to see what they come up with next.
Having more options for units (to a point) is always a good thing IMHO.
Don’t forget: the bows can no longer take that 2nd shot fatigue-free. And I will have to try 1/2 shots more often so I can advance more…
Nice!
The native americans seem interesting. I like that they expanded the game out of the caribbean, means i can use my Iroquois from Muskets&Tomahawks against some pirates!
who doesn’t love pirates, this game looks great on the table! I prefer the Dutch privateers
Brilliant new units, great to see a hit and run faction added, gives a good refresh to just shooting at each other with dud powder lol
I just recive the last kickstarter and i don’t know why i order only 1 Ship and one Starter box because now i am only one player in my country and dont have the spare force to do the presentation to my friends. But the Limited edition of the book looks amazing!
im going to be printing ships soon as i was om the printable scenery lost islands kickstarter, with english navy crew id be a happy chap but can i stop at one thats the question.
I love those new native models.
A very attractive game. I hope to have the opportunity to try it soon.
This would make a great boot camp (HINT HINT)
Why was the pirate’s Jolly Roger so cheap? He bought it in a sail!
No clothes? I hope everyone hid Justin’s clippers
Lovely miniatures. What a great game to make terrain for.
Did you say early Britsh (well, English) Grenadiers? SOLD!
With the new expansion, I’m most definitely sold! The European soldier models are making me want to paint up a unit as Albany’s maritime regiment. It feels like the games got a whole deeper, well that’s my perspective from the shallows at least. Stirling work, exciting times ahead me thinks!
Justin, fortune and inspiration were not on your side for this battle:). Regarding musketeers I am so glad I have ordered several of them so I can customize them for each nation. I also hope we get some painting advice from Mike regarding more accurate choice of colors for uniforms for each nation from the era.
Can’t wait for the Black Beard expansion.
As for the Oak and Iron newly announced game I am not sure since I have an extensive collection of Sails of Glory. I will nevertheless check the KS when it launches. Good luck with everything and can’t wait to see all the goodies you have mentioned about so far: terrain, new ships, new characters, new units, etc.
Ya really enjoyed watching the English play some of the new troop types. I love learning by watching what tactics are good to use and to see what new units do! Thanks for the game guys; keep them coming
the minis look really nice
I am really liking their new expansion. Look forward to getting a chance to play it.
Love the AAR on the match.
loving the look of the models!
Native are going to be my next army!
The game looks like so much fun.
This game system is one of the best available. There’s just so much you can do and its FUN!
I think the nerf of the bow is a good idea
Natives were better than I thought as Justin pointed out as well. No reloads could be very effective especially if you can get in an aggressive firing position every turn.
Still debating their overall power against the more established factions?
Definitely agree the natives are squishy but played as guerilla tactics could be fun
Like the new English sailors with the muskets
Thanks for the video, love the game.
So guns, germs and steel aren’t all-powerful. Nice to see how the natives are balanced against the European forces.
Awesome run down and game there. I’ve got to admit that while the English are pulling me toward them I need my own pirate force with their own vessel. I do love the mechanics of this game ?
Natives seem mightily annoying.
I really like those native models
Good point about the accuracy and lethality of bows in that age.
I want to play Spanish.
Loving the way the unit abilities reflect history. The natives sound like a great faction to play ?
I really need this…
great game, I would like to play it sometime
I was shocked by how good those bows were
Love the sculpts on the natives.
