It’s the XLBS Show………..Happy Sunday Fellow CoGs!
Nice opening song! (that kid’s got talent, someone get him a contract)
Oh my, I can only imagine the pain of crashing down on tiny fighting men with brass spears! Then realize that they have taken damage and you have to fix it all, (I think that is the part that would hurt more after the initial pain of the brass fades away)
I agree @avernos Qui-Gon Jinn was the greatest. I really missed him after only having known him for one film. Then I found the book that takes place before the Phantom Menace, ‘Master & Apprentice’.

I am currently still working on ‘Reign in Hell’. I started with two cabals and have now started three others for a total of five cabals. My custom battle mat at 22″x30″ is morphing through several different layout changes. So many options!
first……..
Happy Sunday, lets get that wank on and then on too the Greatest movie ever made.
Happy Sunday~
I got the p-51’s painted today, I could have done the extra six Wildcats, but I want to wait for their decals to come. I love the kit-bashed inquisitorial stormtroopers Ben, they’re dope.
Kitbashing….No No No….Only thing I ever kitbashed was a car for Dark Future
@brennon Liked the guy with the phone….
“Sir we have a reported heretic”
“What are the signs Sgt?”
“They say he’s got an ‘ology Sir”
Ooooh Dark Future was great! Hmmm now where did I leave my copy of that???
That flesh leaf gives me visions of some horrific flesh forest. I’m certain I’ve read about that concept before…
I kitbash almost everything – even my Leia for Legion is re-posed, converted and got new equipment. All my Mandos and Rebels have been converted so that every figure has a unique pose. My problem seems to be that I do it too well, because most people don’t recognize the work. I also scratch-built, even complex geometries and details, and do my own sculpting occasionally. 😀
8mm Mechanicum Taghmata would empty my wallet faster than a wet fart empties an elevator.
Great to hear about your projects, and it’s good to see Free’s research phase in project work is similar to my own. My problem is when planning becomes procrastinating!
Thank you! Yep, I find research a lot of fun. Even when I walk through forests, you’ll hear me say, “That’s a good tree”. And stop to take a picture! I just need a line to stop researching… Haha
Check out the Reaper Bones Fungal Queen for a cool mushroom mini that would look good as a ‘tree’.
Also, Mod Podge Gloss and Mod Podge Dimensional Magic can be used for a good smaller scale water effect.
The whole under charging can be an issue across all creative industries especially when folk first start out as freelancers. When I worked as a video/tv camera operator I was told charge a day rate, back then was around £400-500, but on your half day rate don’t charge half of that but go about 3/4 so instead of charging £250 go upto £350, because they’re more likely to hire you for a full day instead of half.
When I worked hourly I was always told work out what you want to be paid by the hour then either add another 50% or double it because you’ve still have to pay/cover electric, equipment usage etc. That extra money can be saved in the bank to help cover tax costs and being reinvested in to new equipment at the end of the year.
Commission painting is the same you’ll need to buy new brushes, paint and basing materials. All of those things need to be regularly replaced, also you shouldn’t use that stuff to do your own miniatures. You basically will need two sets one for commission which is paid for by the business and your own personal set paid for by you.
***Smutty Joke***
Not sure if it’s the one Gerry was thinking about but here’s one that springs to mind… (Self censored the language in case young eyes see)
Man goes to the doctor embarrassed and concerned.
The doctor puts him at ease and says there’s nothing he hasn’t seen or heard before so just to tell him or show him what’s wrong.
Quick as a flash the man pulls down his trousers and shows the doc his tackle that is bizarrely a bright golden orange.
The doctor is stumped. He asks him if it had been exposed to sunlight for too long and it being some odd tanning condition. But he hadn’t been sunbathing.
The doctor asked about any history of allergic reactions, sexual history, hereditary conditions but the man’s answers failed to narrow the cause.
The Doctor asked if his job includes handling any chemicals?
The man said no, he was unemployed.
Exasperated the doctor asked
“Then what do you do with yourself all day?”
“I mostly play with myself and eat cheesy Wotsits”…
Happy Sunday!

I’m really looking forward to seeing the results of that mushroom forest @fcostin .
That kitbashed unit looks great @brennon I’ll keep my eyes peeled for when they are fully painted.
Three great golden button winners, well deserved.
…and tanks in mud, as nature intended.
Yay The XLBSers SHOW.
The remake of journey to the centre of the earth I think has giant shrooms in it free if your interneting free.
Fabulous work John I can see Warren hitting you with a list of job’s to do now l bet?
He’s the sniper magnet of the unit Ben.?
I’m surprised a Ork badmoon player hasn’t changed the necron flyer to one of theirs ?
The problem is killteam is the skirmish 40K game guy’s?!?
Gerry is trying to make gold from leads?
That’s a fab show guy’s Gerry you are a big tease getting by the way.?
In this episode:
Free talks about her recent mushroom research and forays into psychedelic color space
Gerry talks about his experience with shrinkage
John talks about dying of boredom in painting (which won’t happen with his gift that he received for Giftmas)
Ben talks about self inflicted wounds, personal growth and a new lease on life with conversion
Later on there’s scaling issues and alchemy to be worked out
Artel done Spyrers you say? BRB
Cor. I’m leaving a tab open for those.
Having flyers in a Titanicus-scale game makes a heck of a lot more sense than in 40k.
A xlbs, Happy sunday !!! 😀 I dont kitbash much, i cant open a pack of dice with out almost cutting a finger off.. And @brennon you just misunderstood the rule, you dont have to cut you finger away 😉 another reason i dont kitbash much right now, is because mostly buliding Star wars legion, and fallout super mutants. My rebels is made of a weird plastic, and the super mutants is made of resin. But love the look on the inquisitor storm troopers. The tanks look awesome, but yes i dont wanna try a 1 on 1 sherman vs tiger tank. Gonna be interrested to see you new sovjet tank. Have you ever build any of the early war french tanks?
Gonna be intersting too see the moonstone table, but the colours do make think of world of warcraft, and the star wars world @avernos mentioned. There is some pretty looking star wars legion tables out there with that theme you could look up.
Happy Sunday…
@fcostin, if it is not too late, below is a demo for doing some water effects using a product called Glass Coat.
Now this vid is almost 11 years and was just after the original launch of Dystopian Wars.
The presenter is an Ozzie called Viv who used to run a gaming store in the Melbourne, Victoria area called Battle Bunker. That store closed and after a while he setup a new firm using the name Knights of Dice that produces MDF terrain and a few other things.
The Glass Coat part starts around the 4:30 mark.

Morning! Thanks for the spotlight, it put a well needed smile on my face.
So, I’m not a fan of Eldar…they suck (stupid pointy-eared space elves!), but damn their tiny fighting planes are magnificent! So much fun to play with also. Just leave them at full speed and ‘wing-over’ to your hearts delight! They die soon as someone notices them though!
The first couple of Doom Scythes are now done. Still a tad glossy though but done in a traditional style. (By that I mean I stabbed non contrast paint at it until it submitted!) Pictures soon!
I agree John! They are loads of fun to paint. There was a time where I could count on one hand the number of miniatures I’d paint in a year! Aeronautica has got me back into painting in a big way!
Aeronautica is a great game! Probably one of GW’s cheapest? I’d love to see a combined game with Titans and eventually infantry/tanks. Played a load of Space Marine back in the day but didn’t quite get on with the last version of Epic. It would be very easy for GW to release some basic Marines and tanks in that scale and maybe make a dropzone-ish game? Set it in the Horus heresy so the models will cover both traitor and loyalist forces depending on what colour you paint them!
But unfortunately I don’t see it happening yet. If they are doing more “28mm” plastic heresy this year then they probably won’t release a bunch of 8 to 10mm heresy models. Wouldn’t that just negate the whole Forgeworld range as people go to the smaller scale and continue to play 40k Heresy with bigger (cheaper??) armies?
