Happy Sunday Peeps!
You had me at 10mm. When you threw in Age of Magic I made a mess of myself
The Beast Arises series has no comedy in it. The Orks are a major threat that wipe out Space Marine chapters with ease. The only thing about that series is that the human politics makes you hope the Orks win
It’s the XLBS Show………..Happy Sunday CoGs!
The old Citidel Paints bottles look like the Privateer Press P3 paints bottles.
I like the Multi-User Project idea. Can’t wait to try it out……(wait….I’ll need buddies….never mind, my wife just reminded me I don’t have any of those!)
Happy Sunday.
One of my favourite 40K short novel/short series was the Prophet of WAAAAAGH which was just an epic Ork Story about a Mek just doing Ork stuff and stomping humies with “Fat Mork”.
But hands down one of the books I enjoyed the most was Brutal kunning. It’s a brilliant look at how Ork’s work and how insanely hard it would be to defend against them because they’re just such lunatics. He takes out a Knight/Small Titan which is just epic.
My favourite part is when the Ork can’t figure out where the Humies are hiding all their shiny loot so he asks the Grot what he would do if someone tried to steal his stuff and when the grot says “Hide it” he just figures that Humies are just as puny as Grots so they’d probably do that too. Such a great book.

I got that ‘Prophet of Waaagh!’ as an audio book … it is hilarious and proper Orky.
Happy Sunday!
@warzan, you can tell those from the same generation bopping along, with the millennial shaking there head at a classic tune
Great session today guys, looks like everyone’s been busy and some great work from the Golden Button winners. Warren you will find some interesting Orks in the Beast Arises series but I am not sure you will find exactly what you are looking for. I think it may be worth reading up a little more on the different Klans as maybe there will be one that is a little more tactical than the others.
Happy Sunday,
SAGA age of Martians coming soon!
Ak,aka,ak
Age of Orkses!
Happy Sunday All ?
Regards GW paints and the ****ness of their paint pots, I have a pot of Tin Bitz from the range that followed those OG Citadel paints (the taller hex-pots) and it just doesn’t dry out, and I’ve had that pot over 20 years now
yup have several of those still as well
Super powerful ork = Spork
Ref @warzan ‘s Orks, I have to agree about the comedy aspect being pushed too far. Part of the thing I enjoyed about Warpath/Deadzone was how their Marauders are supposed to be incredibly brutal, highly competent mercenaries.
There is one thing to consider though about Orks – of all the races in the grim, Grim, Grim Darkness of the 41st Millennium, it’s only the Orks that are genuinely having any FUN.
I would say though, if you want to see how Orks look to the “average” Imperial citizen, Gaunt’s Ghosts 2nd novel Ghostmaker features a chapter flashing back to Gaunt and Major Rawne facing off with a small band of Orks, and the Ciaphas Caine series have Orks turning up in several stories and are consistantly portrayed as being pant-wettingly terrifying for any sane individual to face. Otherwise Brutal Kunnin’ is told from the Orks POV, and I gather there is a book out this year featuring Ghaszkhull. And whilst I’ve not read them, the Yarrick omnibus is probably worth a shot…
In Rynn’s World the orks are nasty. They’ve portrayed the scary orks rather than the comedy ones.
It’s probably nothing to worry about unless you’re planning on either donating your LED-lit dungeon, or keeping hold of it for decades to come – but polystyrene reacts with the pvc coating on wires; it makes it go hard and brittle (and eventually, flake off). Years ago I rewired my canal boat and part of the safety scheme was to make sure none of the 12v wiring was ever in contact with the polystyrene insulation (instant safety fail). But it’s looking really, really cool!
Vape oil for smoke works really nicely. I made a micro smoke machine a while back – would easily fit one into one of your hidden rooms – don’t give up on the idea just yet! 😉
Thanks for the button! Yeah I’m using a smaller board. Great episode as usual!
I saw that you snuck it in after we filmed!
Lol XLBS/COGZ,ers
You’ll need to get that as your ring tone @warzan
When written well the orks tread the line between comedy and horror. I think it’s they’re comedy in their own minds, but horrifying when you see the result of their slapstick violence. Baneblade by Guy Haley paints them as properly terrifying. I read the paperback so no promises there’s not a cockerney accent to be heard in the audio version.
Of course “when written well” is doing a lot of work here. It always is when talking about Black Library 🙂
The dungeon shelves are coming along nicely. Smoke would be cool but it has to go somewhere so you will end up with water pooling somewhere or vape oil coating everything including the front glass fairly quickly.
Adding sound could be a fun project- either some sort of soundboard on your phone or all the way upto a Pi or other small embedded device with buttons for each room playing out some ambience or advancing a story.
Don’t forget uv,light shows all body fluids so if you’re kid’s/pets accidents? could be embarrassing @warzan
Lol Warzan,s Disco Dungeon.?
Thanks for making my Sunday guys – I was pottering about watching/listening and randomly heard my name – nice surprise ?.
Bizarrely I was thinking the same about the GW paints a few days ago. I have a load of citadel paint from the early 90’s (or same era as the pot Jerry had) and they are still perfect – however my newest GW pots are an absolute disgrace ?. Think I’ll be changing brand.
I also think that the 40k orks, as they are portrayed, don’t work in the setting (in my opinion). They are a bit jarring and don’t quite fit with my image of the universe of 40k but…..who the hell am I? enjoy your hobby how you want! I would be happy exploring just the imperium/Chaos dynamic ??♂️
Dry ice.guy’s
What about the poundshop candles?
Use green wire an they could be vines & roots.
Yay the boy’s are going in ball’s deep.
Get a syringe @lloyd to get the dregs out.
I guess I will 🙂
@warzan One option for your graveyard backdrop might be a 3D printed lithophane of a forest/mountain scene. Here’s a website to help you create them and show you how to do it – https://lithophanemaker.com/
ooo that’s exciting and different
The problem with many different guns is your going down the German rout. but one of to guns is more the Soviet bloc mass wall army @lloyd.
So many GUNS!
That shark is fabulous looking.
Bye guy’s a fabulous comical show.
I miss the sheer lunacy and madness that used to be in Orks.
In 8th edition their codex read like just another army list.
It didn’t highlight how mental they are as a race and it reduced all their clans to a single statline.
The Ork buggies they did could have been so cool, because the initial ad campaign was Orky … and then the models showed none of the actual Orkness as they were all single pose kits with zero options.
The newly announced Orkz on squigs are going to be similar and will lack the chaotic crazyness that an Ork army should have. Instead we’re getting alien cavalry. The riders could just as easily have been Kroot and Imperial guard riding horse like aliens.
Compare this to the very first Ork related books that GW did.
Happy Sunday.
I might have to get some of that Vallejo mecha Matt varnish, I use their regular matt brush on is it’s a little too shiny.
Also I love how small and compact that 10mm army is, it’s really tempting, but too much stuff already, not enough time in the week.
Oh and the new codebusters tune rocks!
once the AK stuff I’ve ordered arrives I’m going to show all three, vallejo, mecha and ak to see how they compare
Excellent, I’ll wait until then.
The instar varnish is very good and very matte as well
For the Dungeon lighting have you thought about using Wagos instead connecter block, way easier to use and no messing with screw drivers
@warzan As a thought on the exterior light, rather than a full night/moonlight effect you could go for a sunset with reds, oranges and some purples. Give the sense of the end of the day where the denizens of the dungeon might be getting ready to head up above ground.
Happy Sunday, watching Ben’s expressions during parts of the show was a comedy show on its own today!
00:00 ACK ACK ACK
01:30 still no Baku Baku Baki for me… sodding Netflixgeofilters
02:30 New tune – now with guaranteed DMCA takedown claim!
05:30 ok… why does @warzan have an inflatable mattress in his hobby dungeon? Wait! Maybe we don’t want to know.
06:26 oh oh
08:30 poor teddy bear
10:50 Germans never bothered anyb…. oh Germs.
14:00 Flying sauce!
16:00 army reveal under UV light? Please remove the CoG guest beds beforehand XD
26:00 just don’t put to much textured paint on it. otherwise it’ll grow to big and won’t fit anymore
41:20 set the ghosts on fire!
43:00 If the bard closeup scared @lloyd that much he shouldn’t watch next weeks uHH 😉
45:00 shiny haaaapppyyyy minis
50:00 balls deep discussion
1:07:00 tank discussions and no John around… feels weird.
1:14:30 Multiuser Projects? More stress on the poor wordpress system? 😉
1:16:00 O’KZ!
1:17:00 Forms? Ze German way! MORE FORMS!
1:20:00 D’orcs? Nooooo…. I want more Orcs like in Dawn of War I and II
1:21:30 IG do jokes… and then they get shot by the commissar.
1:28:00 don’t read old codex from 2nd edition… it’s pure comedy 😉
1:32:00 You’re not alone @brennon those minis are tempting me as well.
1:35:30 SAAGAAAA
1:40:30 only paint moves a mini from AoS to generic… soooo GW is generic as shit? 😉
And now: more coffee
I love me some Comedy orcs but I see the point. I don’t think both of these two things are mutually exclusive. Just because they make you laugh doesn’t mean they can’t be terrifying. Imagine the jokey hooliganism and stick that with sudden terrifying merciless violence.
Also, if the orcs would go grim they would stay grim and there would be no jokes or comedy in 40k at all! I mean we are grown adults pushing around little toys, it shouldn’t take itself too seriously right?
@warzan The Beast Arises series is good, but has jack shit for ork stories. They are just a force to beat instead of any story line.
@lloyd I bought stainless steel balls once and they still rusted in my paints. Stick to glass beads to be safe.
happy sunday
everyone, it’s been a while.
too much work at work and at home, another 6 weeks then I hope to get back to some hobby.
very inspiring xlbs thanks.
i would like to learn more about the led, but i am not that much of an electrician person.
does anyone know if there is someone who can learn this easily.
maybe a Gerry (Warren) can ?.
Lloyd keep working on your / 40k army it looks fantastic ???.
a gold button in the making (if it’s done).
???????
Helreach isn’t too bad primarily about Black Templars but is about Ork invasion an they are not comedy orks
Happy Sunday! Such a fun show. The new Codebusters theme is almost as good as Warzan singing along. Nice to have another code to bust.
As always, Ben’s reactions to the Johnson Entendrés flying about thick and fast are priceless. I sense boundless meme material here.
“Two ball bags and a vibrator…” sounds like a great week for the Mrs really.
Seriously, the Vortex paint mixer is what mini painters want. It has made a major difference in the health of my paints and arms.
Don’t use Detol @lloyd it will give you a very greasy residue.
Use methylated spirt( the purple stuff) it will break the bonds of the paint and will brush off with a tooth brush just as easy as the Detol but with less mess, it also smells better !
Or @lloyd drink a bottle of rum the night before then next morning you should be able to rasp the paint off when you lick the miniatures. The after taste of the rum will disguise the taste of the paint as well which is a bonus
Sweet, might try meth then.
Happy Sunday….
Good show this week chaps.
@avernos, what ya want to do?? as is wisely known I’m easy and easily led astray
I’m positive we had talked about something, but I’m damned if I can remember what it was, don’t think it was BA but Clash or Saga maybe…
Honestly I was hoping you would remember
think it was GoR….
hmm maybe Saga or Clash or BA or CoC or Zulu….
my head hurts
Great work to all the Golden button winners!. After the talk about the crappy GW paint bottle I noticed in Kojohan Golden Button pictures of his 10mm army that he had GW paints transferred into dropper bottles. I was just wondering if the labels are custom made, prided off the original GW pots or if there is a place to buy stickers for your dropper bottles??? Can ya help a brother out with many dried up paint pots???
MY BALLS DID RUST!
Hi all, it’s been a few days since I dropped my test stainless steel balls into water to check if they would rust.
Indeed they did, so I’ve taken them back out of the few GW pots I popped them in.
That’s why I’ve done only some of my GW pots and not the whole lot, was waiting for the rust test.
Now I’m going to look into suggestions made by @lawnor and @buggeroff such as glass beads.
Cheers chaps 🙂
Ceramic ball bearing are an option. Although not as easy to source as traditional stainless ball bearings.
Cheers @deaddave
@warzan is telling cock jokes all day not funny any more? When did that happen?
If you want non-comedy Orcs, this is going to sound really weird, but check out the Warcraft movie. Aesthetically, they look like GW Orcs but they are nothing like in terms of their portrayal, they’re closer to the “noble savage” trope.
@warzan check out The Siege of Castellax
by C. L. Werner. It’s Iron Warriors versus Orks. Done from the Iron Warriors perspective. So it’s quite serious.
Great show, as always!
@warzan I agree that 40K Orks are often portrayed as goofy. I wish they would be a bigger threat than they are perceived.
For some Orky inspiration, I would recommend possibly checking out “Rynn’s World” by Steve Parker or “Iron Inferno” by C.L. Werner. Iron Inferno is a short story in a Black Library anthology titled “Fear the Alien”.
