Its the XLBS Show! Happy Sunday CoG brothers and sisters.
Let’s see, what am I working on this weekend…….For the Spring Cleaning Challenge I’m finally getting around to assembling the Mandolorian’s ship that I 3D printed in December of 2019……..(that seems so long ago now).
Also, I’ve purchased the 3D model for printing my own 28mm German UBoat just like the one that @avernos is working on. He got me pump up before to do this and then I failed to follow through but now that he’s finishing his sub and taking us along with him as he does it, I’m making it happen on my end as well. The conning tower is printed and the forward section under the tower is now printing on the build plate. Those sections are averaging out to around 16 hours per section. I’ll end up printing in two different colors as I’m using what I currently have in stock for PLA+. Amazon has pushed back 3D supplies to longer delivery dates so I’ll make do with what I have and prime after assembly.
We’re using Roll20.com a great deal in my gaming group. We have started setting up Kings of War and Warmaster on it as well as we want to use pictures of our own minis rather than digital dollies.
Oh that’s interesting, has UB taking out the ability to put your own in?
From my exploration of the site I didn’t see any option for downloading images. It all seemed to be digital dollies. Is using your own images part of the paid subscription or did I just miss something (highly likely)?
I’ve not used it since it was UB, I believe it’s UB2 now. I must have a poke and see

Was so excited for Cogs v Humanity after seeing it on the discochat, a bit of craic during these troubled times… but a bit of an anti-climax in the end. Suggestion – make it about Gerry, only problem is any answers he gives will probably be worse than anything we can think off!
Apart from DnD over discochat and a bit of Hearthstone, I’m really not interested in playing games over the interwebs. Even playing KoW on Universal Battle doesn’t appeal to me.

I’ve often heard vassal being mentioned on KoWFanatics, what’s it like?
I can’t say I’ve personally tried it. From what I’ve seen of it being used on YouTube though, it doesn’t look too bad. It’s a top down view of the board instead of 3d and there is a bit of a learning curve.

My gaming group has transitioned over to Tabletop Simulator for our regular gaming nights during lockdown. It is obviously clunky compared to playing a game IRL, but it also has a lot of benefits like automatically setting up the game, saving the game state, helpers such as the invisible zones and the best benefit – no pack away time! My biggest issue with a lot of community mods is the lack of info on how to use the mod.
As for copyright, I have heard that some IP owners have been supporting games, I think the creators of Too Many Bones and possibly Gloomhaven have supplied artwork.
2 Minutes in and I already know I will never ever sleep again….

As for online simulators, Roll20 is good for RPGs. I suppose you might be able to use it for war games, but its limited to 2D top down view as far as I’m aware.Actually, as you’ve mentioned streaming, wouldn’t mind seeing you guys playing D&D or WHFRP or the like via Roll20as weekly content if you could find someone to wrangle you all and be DM. 😉

Interesting to see the online analogues for tabletop gaming out there. I tend to get irritated by the clunkiness of such things (gave up vassal years ago) and would rather just sit and paint away at my backlog, but you never know, things may just get that desperate!
As for the financial issues, I know that I would be happy to allocate some money from my hobby budget to keeping BoW/OTT/COGs online until the crisis passes. I’m fortunate enough to be run a business that as far as I can tell will be able to ride out the problems, but my heart goes out to folks who are wondering whether their businesses that they have sweat blood over for the last few years will collapse around their ears. BoW/OTT/COGs is one of the things keeping me sane in all of this so I’d rather throw a few extra shekels your way to help with the bills than just pile up more lead and plastic that I may go insane before I get around to painting! Please don’t hesitate to ask, as you guys are important to us. My world would be a lot poorer without you all.

Couple things you can do to improve the Tabletop Simulator experience, under options>Game you can adjust the gravity all the way up to get rid of the slow fall that seems to happen with things. Also under options>server you can adjust the physics to Semi-Lock or Locked and this prevents you knocking over other pieces as you move your own.

I got Tabletop Simulator last week to try to get some lockdown-gaming with mates. We’re planning on giving SW:Legion a go with it tomorrow. I shall report back if its any good.
It was actually really good. There was a “getting started” preset game, so we played that. Going to try a bigger game tomorrow. Will post about it in my Hobby2020 project.

Great show as always. It was somehow comforting to see Scythe getting its usually bagging from @avernos and of course echoed by @torros above. I’m sorry you guys had a crap time but you did only play it on one occassion. For the sake of balance I would point out as usual that it is a great 4X game and some of our best gaming moments have been in games of Scythe. It is one of those games that seems to polarise opinions but at least it isn’t uninteresting.

I’m sure laughingboy mentions this.. but you can mix the browns and yellows and reds (and blacks) with existing metallics to get a very nice consistency and pre-shaded/highlighted metallics using the contrast paints… works great for bronzes and silvers… I haven’t played around with it as much for golds but should.
