Pre-Order New Flames Of War Starter Set – Fortress Europe!
July 25, 2025 by brennon
Battlefront Miniatures has now retired Hit The Beach, the Starter Set for Flames of War and will be replacing it with a new one that is up for pre-order ahead of a release in August. Fortress Europe will be your new port of call for getting back into World War II wargaming in 15mm.
Fortress Europe - Starter Set // Flames of War
This new Starter Set comes with a bunch of plastic miniatures covering your American and German forces. On the American side, you get...
- 2x M20 Scout Car (Company HQ)
- 2x M18 Tank Destroyer Platoons (4x M18 Hellcats)
- 3x M4 Sherman (76mm) Tanks
- Parachute Rifle Platoon (32 Figures)
If you'd prefer to fight as the Germans and the Axis forces, then you can instead get stuck into...
- Panzergrenadier HQ (6 Figures)
- 2x Panzergrenadier Platoons (58 Figures)
- 2x 7.5cm Guns
- 2x Tiger (8.8cm) Tanks
You get a good chunk of miniatures for starting both of these armies, allowing you to get stuck into some armoured clashes and infantry skirmishes during that scrap for the soul of Europe.

As well as the miniatures for your Americans and Germans, you also get everything else that you need. You will get your complete Rulebook, a Quick Start Guide, all of your Unit Cards and then ten Dice, which you'll need for working out who kills who!

All you'd need to do is get your hands on a nice mat or table to play on and some terrain and you're good to go. It's worth diving into the Battlefield in a Box collection from Gale Force Nine, which could well be the basis for your World War II battlefields.
Are you going to be picking this up to dive into Flames of War?

Needs more Tigers
Königstigers or this is just dull. 😂
Yeah apologies for the negative vibes but feels somehow less and less isn’t always more especially when it’s more of the same
Opportunity to change it up to a Pacific set missed here
Now thats a lot of US armour! as always these sets are cracking value and a great entry point, shame the V1 rocket isnt included any more 🙁
One day a WW2 game will release a starter set with bog standard allied infantry AND some German Heer infantry (rather than SS or the now “standard” German Grenadier offerings). PLUS they might do bog standard tanks (like Stug IIIs and 75mm Shermans) rather than elite units (and hopefully not a 88 ATG or 88mm armed tank in sight). AND some ATGs (rather than more tanks).
Someday it will happen, someday………..
….and I’ll buy that one (because it would form a good base for building up your armies with players getting the most numerous units rather than fancy “elite” ones).
Grenadiers are “standard” German Heer Infantry, the army changed the name/definition during the war.
Not quite. As far as I know (which isn’t a lot) the Heer units reclassified in 1942 as Panzer Grenadier had to be either equipped with half tracks or were motorised infantry. The bottom of the rung “Heer” infantry were the foot sloggers (usually with all the heavy stuff like integral artillery and the logistics were mostly horse drawn throughout the war). Mind you NO-ONE makes
That’s what Avernos meant. Normal infantry divisons were classed as grenadiers, those within panzer divisions as panzergrenadiers. From November 1944 Volksgrenadier divisions were created but these were just renamed infantry divisions with ‘volk’ added for propaganda/morale purposes.
Anyway, nice set. I’ll likely pick it up at some point.
