Thanks, @mage – that map is actually a nightmare to play on. I think I’m going to house rule the +3 buildings cover down to +2 (buildings are damaged, burnt-out shells, etc)- see if that frees things up a little.
This is one of those cases where the game almost works too well.
The rules are written to recreate WW1 and WW2 infantry combat, and I drew up this scenario and map to recreate a bloody, street-by-street, house-by-house bloodbath … I guess I can’t complain when the system produces … a bloody, street-by-street, house-by-house bloodbath. 🙁
Actually run across this a few times in Stalingrad, Tarawa, fortresses of Verdun and trenches of Passchendaele. The game works, as in it produces a tactically realistic, historically plausible result … it just isn’t much fun.
Not all historical battles make good wargames – unless handled just right.
