@warzan The one boardgame I own that I am going to use to experiment on when I get round to buying some contrasts paints is Loka by Mantic/Riverhorse. Either one colour all over the chess pieces or perhaps two or three colours on each piece would probably give a good enough effect for hopefully not too much work. I can’t remember how good the quality of the figures are and a more complex version of chess isn’t exactly family friendly.
If Contrast worked better on flatter surfaces, I think the Wacky Races Boardgame would fit your requirements (the standard edition comes unpainted and I want it so much but have only seen pictures of the models). I don’t know if the Dungeon Saga models are of a good enough quality to spend a lot of time and effort on, though if you had an old set of Heroquest (I’ve a real soft spot for the figures in it) you could turn that into something family friendly.
