Tricky one. Could perhaps be viable after Clan Invasion hits retail as that should also include the first 6 mini sets unlocked by the Kickstarter.
Availability of the Beginner and Game of Armoured Combat sets in the UK are improving (but I gather CGL were rather surprised by how popular both sets were so it’s taken a bit to improve availability), and Asmodee are apparently working on improving the visibility of Battletech product for retailers and distributors to order in. Certainly some sites are better than others for Battletech – a sizeable chunk of the Iron Wind Metals range is available from Ral Partha Europe, and Leisure Games and Shiny Games certainly list plenty of the rulebooks (with fluctuating availability).
The question of whether to use the hex rules or the more traditionally tabletop Alpha Strike ruleset is tricky. I would reckon pairing the Alpha Strike: Comanders Edition rulebook with a choice of one of the Star/Lance packs from the Kickstarter could make for an interesting weekend set during the Invasion period, perhaps with the Beginners set / GOAC as add-ons for those who want to try out the more traditional ruleset? Would probably hold off on offering the Battlemech Manual/ Total Warfare/ Tactical Ops/ Techmanual series to keep things simple…
(Personally I’d be all up for some Dark Age / Age of Destruction gaming but I’m a filthy heretic with tubs full of outsized mechs still knocking around…)
