I work for a company that is considered an “essential business” I worked even on Sunday. Today is Memorial Day Holiday but I will be working as well, there are things that need to be done around the house and yard. Will be able to relax at least in the afternoon as we enjoy a BBQ. I put the ribs in the smoker at 6am so they should be ready for Lunch.
Between the PPE items my family has been making and some other volunteer work helping first responders and then normal work, my hobby time has been shot to hell. Should be going back to normal in June as things start to ease.
Do you own an airbrush setup?
Yes, and I use it often. I have a Patriot 105, Patriot Sotar 2020-2F and Harder & Steenbeck Infinity. I use a dual tank Iwata compressor so I can have two brushes running at the same time. The 105 is my workhorse for priming especially now that all my terrain is FDM 3D printed. I use Badger 3D smoother and primer. My Sotar 2020-2f is my detail airbrush. The H&S Infinity I purchased used and has been used for painting 75mm figures I am making on my Resin printer. While the Sotar is fine for 28mm-35mm figures, its spray pattern is noticeable and not well defined enough for larger figures. That said, the Badger airbrushes I would still recommend without a second thought. As with any tool, they all take practice to learn.
Do you use it just for priming and terrain or also for detail work on miniatures?
Yes for priming. I do not like rattle cans for priming as I believe you waste a lot of primer and often get a bad can that creates splotches. I also like the zenithal effect and I cannot get the look I want with cans. The only thing I will use a can for is lacquer top coat. I like the control of a airbrush. For miniatures details, it depends. If I want a nice smooth transition on a piece or doing camo designs. I just finished painting Project X from Mythic in ambush pattern. I would not bother with 15mm miniatures. Usually bigger miniatures I use an airbrush because I have issues blending larger areas with a brush.
Have you ever danced with the devil in the pale moonlight?
I would be the devil I know can’t dance for sh!t! All left foot that one.
