Leaky roofs (it is roofs isn’t it? Rooves? Nah, roofs, surely?) are a nightmare – and very rarely are they cured by bodging! Yesterday was very wet you say? In Ireland? I don’t believe it!
That self adhesive flashing is fine when it first goes down. But I’d run a bead of silicone along the edges to bond it to the roofing felt. When the sun gets hot, it tends to lift the edges and cause it to curl, longways, which can allow rain ingress (speaking from experience after I used it on a polycarbonate roof in our self-built extension). If you put your bitumen on quickly, that might act as an adhesive, in a similar fashion.
Then again, given where you are, maybe a spell of hot dry weather lifting the edges of the flashing isn’t such a concern for you 😉
