I imagine the hobby is so informal, that nobody cares — except maybe GW? Similar situation for mobile game artists?

As for credit, mebbe credit in the corner of the manufacturer and sculptor. That way, ruleset buyers can even buy the miniature if they want. Heck, business-minded rulebook creators may have a deal with a manufacturer for the mini’s in their rulesets. After all, many in-house rulesets are there to sell a product line!
